Stuck on pokemon emerald

I beat the game, then started a new one. This time i chose mudkip as a starter. How do I beat the mossdeep gym? Do i really have to train a dark/ghost type?

If you have Mudkip, it should be a Swampert now, so you can pretty much sweep through the Gym with it. If you have a Gardevoir, it's a great partner. Really, any Pokemon will do, but Swapert can handle it by itself.

I've been sorta lazy with my training. My swampert is only level 42...

If you can obtain Ice Beam tm then I would teach it to swampert and use that on Xatu and claydol. Then surf away solrock and lunatone. If you have a lunatone I found it to be very helpful in my gym battle.

Right on! Now I'd find one or two that can beat on water types because that's gonna be your final gym leader.
