Has anyone else ever felt (especially if they're in high school/college) that with the exception of a few, they're surrounded by complete morons? This is my problem: I'm your average, geeky junior at a Catholic high school who's just trying to make it through each day with all her sanity. Only it's really hard to retain my sanity when every other person in my class seems devoid of any intelligence. The freshman, sophomore, and senior classes aren't causing any real issues, it's just the class of 07 that's full of idiots. I am stuck in a class full of idiots who, among other things, walk as slowly as humanly possible through the halls with total disregard for those whose next periods are on the other freakin' side of the school, scream "YEEAH, BOY!" at the top of their lungs in the middle of class for no reason (as well as "OOKAY!"), have nothing better to talk about than what such and such was doing with so and so on The OC, and, when I try to bring up topics such as the recent controversy over a local high school production of Ragtime, stare at me like I have two heads. Now, being a Catholic school, where football is second only to Jesus, I can't help but wonder if the environment just naturally breeds idiocy, but on the other hand, the other classes seem to be doing fine. My mom says I just notice this stuff way more often in my class than in the other classes, because I spend more time around them, but considering I'm friends with half the seniors, this can't be the case. So is everyone else a bunch of immature freaks, or are they just normal, with me being a freak who's overly mature?

Wow, you sound like me. Heh. I would say that it's a strenghth that you can recognize the stupidity of much of high school culture, and not get sucked into trying to be like everyone else. And much of high school culture is stupidity, quite honestly, pure and simple. And as for your class being more annoying or whatever... maybe they really are. Maybe it just is sort of contagious to act that way because everyone copies each other... and maybe the seniors are just more mature than that. Trust me, I feel like I'm surrounded by complete morons all the time. Some people are just idiots. Just stay out of the stupidity, and don't let it get to you.

Ever read Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy? Accept the heath.

That's what high school is. Anyone competent hates it. You can't avoid it, either. You've just gotta wait it out--I'm going through the same thing.

Man you have it easy, at least you didn't go to highschool when that stupid Budwieser frog commercial came out. I dunno if you remember it, but there were these frogs and one would say "bud" and the next would say "wise" and the last would say "er." People would seriously sit in class and say "bud" "wise" "er" for the ENTIRE period EVERY day for a year.

Also people did stand around in the hallways for no reason, and 90% of the school weighed at least 300lbs so there was no way to get around them. Also the large majority of the school rarely showered and wore the same clothes for a week. Me and my friend, who as far as I could tell were the only people in that school who took a shower every day, used to call it Stenchburg Highschool.

I mean, dude, the class president, on graduation day, had to give a speech, and his speech was about how he wore the same red sweater every day to school (red and white were the school colors) and now that highschool was over, he was never going to wear the sweater again, and then he started crying.

At least the people in your school are smart enough to talk about TV, the people in my school never talked about anything besides beer and weed, except for the 25% of the school who were mormons, and they talked about hating gay people.

I hate to break it to you, but there are idiots out there in the real world, too. If you don't believe me, then you need to pay attention to the news more often. It is best to ignore them.

I feel your pain nekusagi-chan my high school was a lot like that maybe a little worse because it was a public school. It was pretty bad at my high school people would hide people's lunches for no reason, just to be mean.

My Community college is just as bad. I hate that place and it's really depressing me.

Wow.

Same here, YumeHeart. I'm surrounded by stinky fat/extreamly unhealthily skinny girls, ALL WHO NEVER SHOWER.
They actually sometimes put oil in their hair so it looks shiny as if they just took a shower.
They're PATHETIC.

And their parents don't care a bit about their children's weight as none of them eat anything but sweets. x.x

Take heart, the morons tend to disappear in college. Something about having to pay for their education either weeds them out or brings out their more intellegent sides. I knew people who were absolute jerks in High School but were very nice in college.

Well, there are periods when people have to change because of an event that can change their future, e.g.: Elementary->High School graduation exam. Those who are conscience of their near future will have to work harder to achieve what they were dreaming for; but these people are always marked by others as "nerds", although they cannot "see" that they(the bullies, idiots, etc) are the ones that "are falling apart" in a world where competition is primary.

Dunno how you can say it, but, in my country, when somebody makes a debate, underlining some common subjects of our lives, it is called "to put the point on the I". I really am glad that Neku-chan had made that cause i had some severe incidents with such things recently. Well, i know that some classmates are going on drugs, some are smoking over 35 ciggars per day, but, in this 3rd year of highschool when i hadn't skipped any classes at all, i have just remarked the fact that some of my collegues(those who had been really good at schoolwork) are going thru a period that will end (and i am afraid so) with their total idiotisation. Skipping classes, making ruckus while at class-time, getting bad marks and also making fun of teachers are now primary to some of those classmates, noting the fact that they will have to take the College graduation exam over 1 year. I could say that this is quite irresponsible...but, and this question is addressed to everybody here:
What would you say about a student from my highschool who pointed a gun at a teacher 4 years ago and never got expelled for that? How would you react if you were his classmate?

And do please excuse me if i have made a bunch of spelling/grammar mistakes because i am very tired...tired of my class full of idiots.

Wow... thanks for the support, you guys. Al, I'll keep that thing about college in mind.

Still, it's really hard *not* to get depressed when people see you folding cranes in Mythology and ask if they can have a "penguin".

Stupidity tends to find its way into the working world as well. I once found a requisition form for a urinalysis at my office that had "anatomic site: Kendall office" written on it. [Technically, the anatomic site should have been the bladder, but this person evidently failed health class.]

Do you happen to live in Ohio? I've met smelly no-shower people all over this country, but it seems to me that Ohio, where I grew up, was by far the worst.

If you are mature as you said you are, you would have ignored this.

One word: Relax.

There's something called Emotional Intelligence. No offence, but making a big deal out of something likes this, in fact, makes you the un-intelligent one. I think that there are plenty of more serious things to worry about in life. If something like this ticks you off.....

Nope, not Ohio. xD I live in the K.S.A. Saudi Arabia, yo.
The fact that it's a freakin' desert makes it even worse.

Can't just relax as one girl (thankfully now in the OTHER class) STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN.
I choke several times when she passes by. It's bad for my health. x.x
She leaves the room and the stink stays there for who knows how many minutes. It's... amazing in a digusting way.

I usually feel like I'm surrounded by idiots as well, but I never really get worked up over it. I can't really understand how some people can be so loud in class, though. It does slightly annoy me, but I never really cared. The only thing I can't stand is how certain individuals are mean to only certain others without being provoked in any way.

As for the stinky people part, that's probably just a matter of laziness. I'm glad my sense of smell isn't very good.
