Stupid Rock Smash

Hello, I got to Victory Road in Soul silver today but rock smash isn't working at all... I taught it to like 5 different pokemon and tried (in front of a fricking ROCK) but it kept saying "Cannot use this here" Please help ... I'm stuck T.T

Are you sure your using rock smash in the right place?

You use rock smash on the little cracked rocks, and strength on the big white boulders.
There should never be a point where you need to activate the ability in your Pokemon menu. Just click the rock, and the game will prompt you with a dialog and activate the right HM for you :3

Are those rock from Victory Road smash able? Because back in other pokemon games they could be ><
