(I guess this'd be the best forum?)

Okay, I've been wanting to learn to do some better subbing overall. And I can't seem to really find something that'd help me all that much.

Can someone give me some information on how to typeset/karaoke decently? Right now, I can change font & size... but that's really about it. And I can add simple karaoke... but I haven't been able to figure out how to do the special effects that you see on some karaokes.

Also, could someone point me to some good encoding tutorials? Right now, I use VirtualDub's default XVid settings, and although the product is decent, I've seen better and I loose quality most of the time. Can someone suggest some good tweaks or something?

Any help would be appreciated~ And sorry if this is the from forum. o_O;

Why not ask the #pm_subs people? (Sunain, JDS, TSS_Killer et. al.)

I'd suggest that you read some stuff @ www.doom9.org. I haven't looked for any information on karaoke there, but you sound like the kind of inexperienced individual who'd benefit from a few of their articles. :p

I'm rarely around when they are, and when I am, they're busy with other stuff. :/

Kadabra: Uh, thanks. ^_^;;

*pats my semi decent stuff so far*

Special effects is made with multiple \t's

normal karaoke {\k5}Y{\k5}e{\k5}s
\t would be something like depending when you want to start effect

{\t(50,100,\fs50)\r}Y{\t(100,150,\fs50)\r}e{\t(150,200,\fs50)\r}s

textfilter can use burn these

VobSub includes textsub for virtauldub and avisynthis... also guide for "advanced substation" (ass) scripting

as attachment there are program to calculate \t timing (basic math support)
(its in finnish, i can post source-code if you want (vb.net))
