I have a few ideas what I want to do and have many fan characters in my arsenal stored in my head but am struggling to write some fanfic with them. Is it okay to write bios for them instead for now and submit the bios as fanfiction? I would like to show them off but don't know where to start. I had tried writing fanfic before years ago and now too but none came out right.

Probably be best to save them for your Blog.

Honestly, nowadays posting 'Character Bios' (especially done in the TVTropes style where everything is compartmentalized) is a bit overdone, and sort of a negative in my opinion for a writer to do. For one, you're telling people about each character through lists and such, as opposed to naturally introducing them through your writing. Second, you restrict yourself if you put the bio right out there, because then if you ever do proceed to write a story using the characters, your audience already has a pre-conceived notion of how the characters should act and behave, when in reality it's probably better to let the characters begin as unknowns, and let them grow more organically through your story. Third, if you become too pre-occupied with churning out character bios, you're just doing pointless world building and aren't really doing any writing. Sure, I admit, I love world building and such, but eventually it just distracts you from doing any real writing.

It's fine for you to have character bios written down for your own reference (and nothing solid, maybe basic background info and a few traits to avoid later contradictions), but putting it out for everyone to see isn't the best idea. Just my two-cents, however. Maybe once you establish your story, posting some character bios as fun supplementary material for your readers, or as a refresher, is fine though.

If you have deviantART, you can submit them there. You don't need to have artwork - deviantART is more than just artwork.

On here, you can include biographies at the start of your work if you put them inside a spoiler, but we recommend using another method such as a blog on here and providing a link in your first post or using another method such as deviantArt as Toutebelle suggested. However, you cannot post biographies on their own in any of the Workshop subforums.
