Substitute Question

I'm pretty new, so I'm still learning the basics.
I'm considering breeding Substitute into my Snorlax, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea.

Does it work better for pokemon with high or low defense?
High or low HP?

anyway,it depends on health, thats all
and don't do that unless your doing Sub/punch lax

Sub is also useful for blocking status, not just sub/punching.
