Sugar's gender

I think Sugar's male because dear Auntie would have noticed the difference in Pikachu's tail.

...

Actually, I don't remember the episode. Did she notice it really wasn't Sugar to begin with? If so, that can cause an opposite outcome...

The females lack a tip, right?Kids demand isn't working...To serebii!...Nope,no tip....Thought I think Sugar is female...Maybe they won't change the old pokemon species in the anime.

Sugar does sound like a female Pikachu's name.

And of course, the name Sparky sounds like a name for a male Pikachu, most likely (though I guess it could be used for a female as well, lol).

I watched that episode again recently....

And actually, the lady noticed it wasn't Sugar when Pikachu first tried roasting the berries. She said that Ash's Pikachu didn't do this in the exact same way Sugar did, because Sugar always did it slightly different.

Well does anyone remember the voice's pitch? Pretty much we can only determine gender now based on voice due to the confusion of all these gender differences now...

Well seeing how we only saw sugar as a raichu it's hard to judge because of the tail, but i'm pretty sure she said something about knowing it wasn't sugar from the start and just liking the thought, but you'd think the granddaughter or whatever would know the tail thing.

Sparky is the dub name, and pokemon genders aren't really up to the dub to decide. The original name is Leon, which is distinctivly male.

Even if it were Japanese, though, the writers aren't really known for appropiate name choices. I mean, they named a character "Ship".

So "Sugar" could be either or, I think.

It's male, apparently.

Only when Pokemon are in large groups, like Bidoof, Combee, Hippopotas besides that they seem to use the Sugimori standard which usually, but not always, is ze male.

...Those pokemon are "NEW" pokemon...They don't change stuff about the old pokemon...
Woo-Hoo!I'm gonna make a new ship...SugarxPikachu...Wait...That's bad..Pikachu's a girl but is Sugar a girl too...???

I'm sure if they ever introduce a Pikachu that's definately female, not for one minute do I think they won't make the tail noticeable.

Damn animators and their sneaky skillz! D:

Apparently it seems they won't introduce gender differences to the old/already-introduced long ago Pokemon in the anime to avoid continuity.

Does the anime even show gender differences, except for a few Pokemon like Combee?

Well, I mentioned several times before that Brock's Croagunk's belly bands are hiked up pretty high. Obviously, that one's a female, despite the deep "old guy" voice. I think all Croagunk have deep voices like that.

Nah, cuz the animators constantly depict the bandages at different lenths.
