I know why this feature was implemented there as I was a mod there when it happened. It was because the GTS section was seeing a lot of activity and some people would bump up really old threads - the section moved so fast that two weeks was generally enough for the quick trade threads to be done while busy threads would be able to stay active regardless of the timer due to their activity. And it was kinda needed a few years ago when it was done.
However the section is seeing very little activity these days and all it's doing is making the forum look very uninviting. Going into a section and seeing all but one thread locked is not inviting because it looks completely dead and like you shouldn't waste your time posting a thread. I have a bunch of stuff I want to post up in a thread that I need to get rid of, but I really don't feel interested to if I know my thread will just auto-lock in a few weeks time if people don't look (which they probably won't cos the section is mostly dead).
It probably wouldn't increase activity there loads (most people can get what they want for trading on their own these days thanks to changes in breeding and the like in Gen VI) but it would help some threads that are posted have more of a chance before dying.
So now the section is going through a quiet phase maybe make the time around a few months before the auto-lock kicks in?
