Bulbapedia Suggestions, ideas, and problems

I'd think there's more art of Pokémon than human characters because the Pokémon are the stars of the show :p
No but from what I've seen there's just less official individual character artwork out there. Also, artwork in which they only partially feature isn't as appealing to be featured in that characters' gallery.
Which pages in particular are you thinking could be most improved?
 
a lot of event pokemon distribution pokemon have either specific IVs (and sometimes even EVs) or a certain set of guaranteed IVs, and some legendary encounters do too. i think these should be listed in the event card when possible, since it's pretty hard to find the information elsewhere online
 
could someone make a Pokemon Israeli home video section on bulbapedia? I managed to find some VHS tapes but alas i don't know how to create anything on the wiki without messing anything up so i need someone to help me. I can provide the photos of the tapes & translate the Hebrew which while my ability to read the language isn't perfect but it should be fluent enough as i can communicate with my Jewish relatives with Hebrew to try eliminating any inaccuracies.

P.S. PM me if you want the pictures & me to provide a write up. The tapes may not be the be in the best condition but they are still readable

I've noticed a discrepancy on the Roaming Pokémon page about encounters and my own experience. I've encountered the Legendary Beasts while surfing in Gen 2 and Gen 4, and I was wondering if that also worked in Gen 3, though I don't even see it stated on the page for any Generation, let alone 3. Thoughts?

I do seem to recall running into roaming Pokémon while surfing in HGSS, but I can't speak for Gen 2 or 3 (never bothered searching for the roamers back then). Probably worth testing

I've noticed on mobile view (not sure if it's due to the new theme, or if it's been an ongoing issue) that Trainer Tips have been cut off and so aren't readable at all. Please see my screenshot of Route 2 (Unova) for reference.

This is just about the silliest and lowest stakes suggestion imaginable and it’s also a LOT of work for something so silly and pointless so I can understand if nobody else out there shares my interest in seeing it done, but…

I think it would be really wonderful to have a page that documents all of the silly, written-out onomatopoeia sounds used in place of cries in the speech bubbles of interactable Pokémon across the games. You know, when you click on some trainer’s Pidgey and it says something like “ABWOO! ABWOOO!” or “GYUUUURRAAARRRR” or what have you. Maybe this would be something that could also be added to the Cries page? Idk. I’ve found myself looking for a comprehensive database of these silly “sounds” before and there doesn’t seem to be one out there.

There's a userspace page that's got some of them, though it's not been worked on in a while. Could maybe move it to mainspace as is with a notice template. I got a number of them just from poking through Corpus, though I'm sure the blind spots are obvious.

For a character page, such as Ash, would it be possible for the template at the top right that shows his image to have an option for us to cycle between any of his main designs he's had throughout the series? The idea would function like it does on some other wikis, such as Zelda wiki (https://zeldawiki.wiki/wiki/Link) and Smash wiki (Mario). In our case, I would say to just include the main art the character has had for their relevant series. The Artwork section later in the page could and should still house any secondary, notable artwork. For Pokemon themselves, they would still use whatever image Bulbapedia has for their page. In the case of Pokemon that Mega Evolve or have some other notable transformation, maybe they could have their transformation selectable as well.

On a similar note, would it be possible to have a Pokemon's learnset selectable by generation with a click that doesn't take you to a new page? My idea would be when you click on a different generation, instead of it taking you to a new page, it would just replace the generation listed with whatever you clicked on (but obviously have the current gen as default). Ex: If you are looking at Pikachu's Gen 9 learnset, but want to check out Gen 3, clicking on Gen 3 would keep you on Pikachu's page, but replace the learnset with Gen 3's learnset. This obviously would not impact other people viewing the page and even when you open a new tab to go to Pikachu's page again, it would still default to Gen 9. Is that something that would even be possible?

I realize that both of these things would probably be a pain to do, but I do feel like they'd be useful features to implement, if possible. At the very least, I feel like eventually the learnset pages will get annoying in their current state, if they haven't already for some people. I personally don't like that going to a different gen's learnset is basically new page.
 
There seems to be a discrepancy between Pokemon Amie and Refresh's pages regarding the connection between petting and enjoyment. As far as I know, petting supposed to lower enjoyment so you can raise it while playing the games. But according to Refresh, petting actually raise enjoyment. Is there a mistake in either my memory or the page, or did they change it for the Refresh?
 
I find it weird that the Synchro Machine page is just the item and a paragraph on what it does. Maybe it can be expanded or even be split?
 
I'm looking at the Bug Catcher Trainer Class page and noticed something that's a bit odd.
In the notable members part, it mentions Samurai and Aaron. Now, that's fine. Samurai is a bug catcher and Aaron was one. However, I'm wondering why Bugsy isn't labeled as a notable bug catcher when he very much is one.

If I had to guess, it's because he's not explicitly called a Bug Catcher in the core series? He seems more interested in researching bugs than catching them. He does describe himself as a bug catcher in Masters EX, though...

He's got the net, the type specialty, and even states to have won the Bug Catching contest so many times, he elects not to participate anymore.

He's DEFINITELY a bug catcher. Or at least WAS one at some point.
 
I'd like to see a Pokemon search function similar to Veekun's (https://veekun.com/dex/pokemon/search). Veekun's hasn't been updated since Gen 7 and I constantly find myself needing this for my team building as there's usually only 4 or 5 Pokemon I naturally want to use and then I have to find 1 or 2 more that complement my team, replicating something like this would be really useful I think. It's probably best to make it a bit more user-friendly than Veekun's though, it seems a bit overwhelming, maybe adding toggles to expand/hide some of these categories would be helpful.

it's not nearly as exhaustive as the one you linked but i've found pokemondb's moveset calculator extremely useful for teambuilding

That wouldn't work for my purposes. I'm usually looking for specific Pokemon types to round out my team, not Pokemon with specific moves.

I think a similar search tool would need the following criteria at a bare minimum:

  • What game you're playing (so you don't get results that don't actually exist in the game)
  • Pokemon type(s) (so you can find a type with the necessary coverage for your team)
  • BST values (for competitive players that need Pokemon that fill specific roles or satisfy a certain power level)
  • Moves (for Pokemon that satisfy certain strategies)
  • Ability (same as moves)
 
Hi there, I would like to suggest to make the Tt template more like the Hover template on the Super Mario Wiki; namely, that you can tap on the text in order to toggle between the regular text and the tooltip text on mobile devices. I tend to visit Bulbapedia on my iPad, which doesn't let you hover over a text at all to make a tooltip appear, meaning that if I want to know the hover text, I have to enter source editing mode. This can get annoying quick if you don't want to edit a page and only want to see what the tooltip says.

I don't think you'd have to make any changes to the template itself, but instead have to install Gadget-ExplainTooltips.js.
