Hello one and all! It is that time of year again: after six long months, the awards have returned to distract us all from our writing for the next month (well, one of the many things that distracts us all from our writing). However, unlike homework, child rearing and actual fairgrounds, this is a distraction that is really a whole lot of fun!
Kicking things off is the nomination period. You have a week (or until 1PM June 14th NZT) to PM me with your nominations, both for yourself and for your friends. We got around seventy nominations last summer, and I would love to see us hit the same marks again!
Check out in the spoiler for all the rules and categories. We are introducing the Best Poem Anthology award this time around – the specifics for that category and all other awards are over in the Hall of Fame.

Due to the limited entries in some categories last year, I am encouraging people to double check the content of their story before submitting and see if it can fit outside of the traditional Journey and Alternate. If your story has elements of Expansion or Dark to it, I would recommend submitting in those categories so we can try for a more even spread or work. At the same time, if your story has no elements of those two categories, obviously do not submit them there for the sake of a maybe easy win as we will just move it once judging begins – but be smart and don’t just go for Journey if you don’t have to.
You have a week, so get cracking and get nominating! I am still on the hunt for extra judges, so if you will be free during the second half of June/first half of July, please let me know as I would love to add some new blood to the mix!

-Best Crossover/Non Pokemon Fic (for stories that cross Pokémon over with another franchise, is from a different fandom or is completely original)
-Best Expansion (for stories that expand on canon characters and concepts)
-Best Alternate (for all stories that don’t go anywhere else)
-Best Poem Anthology (for any poetry threads or single poems
-Best Protagonist (the lead of your story)
-Best Antagonist (the villain of your story)
-Best Supporting Character (any other character in your story)
-Best Pokemon Character (for Pokemon characters that have been written exceptionally well. Pokemon that speak human/English are allowed here.)
The rules:
- When nominating your own work, you can nominate two stories/characters per category, but there is a limit of four nominations for the story categories and seven nominations for the character categories. When you are nominating someone else's work, you can nominate three stories and three characters and only one per category – this is so people do not just nominate what they will then vote for. If you are nominating your own work, you can still nominate other peoples but put it underneath your nominations.
Here is a run down of what that means:
- 4 of your own stories, two per category (eg 1 Journey, 1 Dark, 2 Alternate)
- 7 of your own characters, two per category (eg 2 protags, 2 antag, 1 supporting, 2 Pokemon)
- 3 stories written by other people, one per category (eg 1 Journey, 1 Expansion, 1 Non Pokemon)
- 3 characters written by other people, one per category (eg, 1 Protag, 1 Supporting, 1 Pokemon)
You are allowed seventeen nominations in total if nominating your work and someone elses. If you are not nominating any of your own work, you are only allowed six.
- A link to each story must be provided just for ease of checking your work. Your entry will be void if you do not submit a link and I will not be reminding you. Any entries which are not properly filled out will be ignored. To make my life easier, plus submit links in the format of thread name[/ URL], which is achieved by using the globe icon. I will not be accepting any entry that does not do this properly and I will not tell you either – check before you send
- Fics that have been published or updated since December 15th NZ Time are eligible for these Awards. You can update your work up until the end of the voting period for it to be counted during judging. Any chapter published once judging commences will not be taken into consideration. Any character you nominate must have appeared in a chapter that has been posted during this period.
- You may only nominate your stories in one category: ie, you can't submit 'Generic Journey Story # 247 ' in Best Journey and Best Expansion, only choose one. Do not try and slip your stories/characters into other categories in order to get them in (ie if you have three Journey fics and you try to get one of them nominated under Alternate). If we catch you out the entry will be made void.
- If a story or character has previously won in one category, it cannot be submitted into any other category without a providing a reasonable explanation as to why the change should be allowed. This would only be allowed if a character's role has drastically changed (ie an antagonist becomes a supporting character) or the story has changed genres (ie a Journey fic drops the journey elements and becomes Dark). The moderators will decide if the change is warranted.
- If a group of characters operate as a single entity, we will allow them to be submitted as one character.
- Do not ask people to nominate your work, as there is no point since you can just do it yourself.
