Greetings Workshop!
We have reached the busy time of year for many of us, with exams, tests and the like coming up as the school year or semester comes to an end. However, this also means that, for some of us, a long summer break fill of sunshine and wonder is coming up, which makes it the perfect time to have an Awards ceremony!
(And, for the rest of us, it is raining, snowing and freezing cold outside, which makes it the perfect time to hide indoors and read fan fiction….)
Now, after a delay to ensure that we would have enough judges available, it is time for the first ever Writer’s Workshop Summer Awards! This will replace the Spring-themed ceremony, with June and July becoming the new time period. But don’t worry, this first ceremony with infuse qualities of both seasons and be the biggest one yet as any story written or updated since January 21st can be nominated in this ceremony!
On June the First, the Awards will kick off, but it will be in a different way to what you may expect. As hinted a few months ago, there are changes coming to the Awards, and I am very pleased to finally be able to announce them! : For the first time ever, the writers of the Workshop have the opportunity to nominate their own work!
Before you collapse in your seats in hysterical glee, a little backstory and elaboration! This change is in a similar way to how awards ceremonies like the Oscars and Emmys work, where studios and TV channels submit the categories they would like to be nominated in, and then the voters look into those categories and decide which ones are the best. This means that, while you nominate your own work, the public still votes on what moves on to the Judging Round!
So here is how it all works:
- Writers will submit their own nominations via PM. You may only nominate one story per story category and two characters per character category, and this is entirely your own work – you can’t nominate someone elses work for them. You must include links to your story as well.
- On June 8th, all these submission will be posted to the forum. Then, for eight days, the public will nominate what stories and characters move on, with the same two per category nomination used in the past. This will also be the time to submit people for Best Newcomer and Best Reviewer. Stories and characters will require two nominations before moving on to the judging round. This will vary if not enough entries get the necessary numbers for certain categories, as there will need to be a minimum of two competing entries per category, but we expect you to all try and nominate as much of the work as you can!
The full timetable and a more detailed explanation of the rules will be given on the first, this is just a reminder to start getting your ideas of what to nominate in order. This is a time to put to rest complaints about never getting nominated, as now you must do the work if you want the reward. I really want this to work, so I hope you all take part in a way that makes this fun and fair for everyone.
Thank you, and good luck to you all,
Ace
EDIT: If you are free during the second half of June/early July and would like to be a judge, please contact me!
