Greetings Workshop!

We have reached the busy time of year for many of us, with exams, tests and the like coming up as the school year or semester comes to an end. However, this also means that, for some of us, a long summer break fill of sunshine and wonder is coming up, which makes it the perfect time to have an Awards ceremony! :D (And, for the rest of us, it is raining, snowing and freezing cold outside, which makes it the perfect time to hide indoors and read fan fiction….)

Now, after a delay to ensure that we would have enough judges available, it is time for the first ever Writer’s Workshop Summer Awards! This will replace the Spring-themed ceremony, with June and July becoming the new time period. But don’t worry, this first ceremony with infuse qualities of both seasons and be the biggest one yet as any story written or updated since January 21st can be nominated in this ceremony!

On June the First, the Awards will kick off, but it will be in a different way to what you may expect. As hinted a few months ago, there are changes coming to the Awards, and I am very pleased to finally be able to announce them! : For the first time ever, the writers of the Workshop have the opportunity to nominate their own work!

Before you collapse in your seats in hysterical glee, a little backstory and elaboration! This change is in a similar way to how awards ceremonies like the Oscars and Emmys work, where studios and TV channels submit the categories they would like to be nominated in, and then the voters look into those categories and decide which ones are the best. This means that, while you nominate your own work, the public still votes on what moves on to the Judging Round!

So here is how it all works:
- Writers will submit their own nominations via PM. You may only nominate one story per story category and two characters per character category, and this is entirely your own work – you can’t nominate someone elses work for them. You must include links to your story as well.
- On June 8th, all these submission will be posted to the forum. Then, for eight days, the public will nominate what stories and characters move on, with the same two per category nomination used in the past. This will also be the time to submit people for Best Newcomer and Best Reviewer. Stories and characters will require two nominations before moving on to the judging round. This will vary if not enough entries get the necessary numbers for certain categories, as there will need to be a minimum of two competing entries per category, but we expect you to all try and nominate as much of the work as you can!

The full timetable and a more detailed explanation of the rules will be given on the first, this is just a reminder to start getting your ideas of what to nominate in order. This is a time to put to rest complaints about never getting nominated, as now you must do the work if you want the reward. I really want this to work, so I hope you all take part in a way that makes this fun and fair for everyone.

Thank you, and good luck to you all,
Ace

EDIT: If you are free during the second half of June/early July and would like to be a judge, please contact me! :D

Sounds good! I'm interested to see how this will work out as it's only recently that I've been lurking around this section of BMGf XD Though I may not have a story posted myself, I'm looking forward to looking into others' works when the public nomination occurs.

Ooh, this is quite an interesting and surprising way to do the awards! I'm pumped up too! Yet another thing for me to look forward to in June too! (I've already got E3, some family visiting, and Father's Day lol) :D

What I'm most excited about is the "authors can nominate themselves" rule being cited as a solution to never getting nominated. To the person who came up with that; you are a genius! Now I'm genuinely excited about, not just this, but all the small things happening around the Workshop, such as Welcome Hub, new members, old members slowly returning, and slight rule changes.

Great work, mods!

Cheers :) My reasoning behind this change was I sort of figured that people may have forgotten about certain stories they had read or were not sure about which ones were actually eligible to be nominated. So now, once the authors submit their own work, I hope people will go "Oh wow, I forgot I had read that!" or something, and they give it a nomination. And, of course, it gives the fics that don't usually get much attention a chance to get some more views.

(Now would be a really good time to start using the Review Game!)

Um, I want to be a judge, but I want to submit my story. Help?

I haven't judged before or anything, but as far as I'm aware, if you wish to become a judge but also want to submit a story or a character for nomination in a certain category, then you won't be allowed to judge in that said category (did I get that right?).

As for the new rules, you have my thumbs up :)

Ohhh, okay. Great to know that. Where are the categories?

I know I've been inactive for a while... but after hearing about the awards being postponed I planed to finish on of my works to compete, and now that I know I can definitely be nominated I will be sure to finish my one shot within the week so that I have get a chance to win.

I hope everyone else will also do their best, and I'll try to read as much as I can so that I can review and give some constructive criticism to help out any new comers and of course our old most loyal workshopers.

Sounds good!

Do we nominate from the 1st via PM then?

There will be a new thread to signal the start of the Awards season so everyone can start at the same time due to time differences and all that, and just as there may be some moderator stuff I will need to work on before that time period as well.

Also, just to clarify: when it comes to voting, you still cannot vote yourself onwards. You are simply nominating yourselves and throwing hat into the ring, but the public still chooses what goes to the judging round.
