Good morning everyone! Or good evening if you have the great fortune of not having just woken up.

It's been a tradition here on Bulbagarden to hold a series of contests for each new generation of Pokemon. These contests are meant to be a fun way for us to give our predictions and see how closely we can get to the final product. Unfortunately we don't have the means to offer physical prizes as we have done in the past, but I'll be sure to put the winner of each contest in an announcement thread upon the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon.

This week's contests is admittedly starting late, but we just had to get this out before we potentially lost this as a topic. As a reminder, there is more Sun and Moon news being announced this Friday, July 1.

Please note that there are a few general rules for these contests

  • Please post only your predictions in this thread. This thread is NOT for discussion purposes and any posts that are made to discuss predictions will be moved to the appropriate thread or deleted.
  • Please be respectful of everyone's predictions when discussing them outside of this thread.
  • Please do not go back and change your predictions after news related to them has been announced. We want to have good sportsmanship in these contests. Besides, we'll know ;)
  • If for any reason you would like to change your predictions prior to any relevant news, please delete the original post and make a new post with your new prediction. This is to make it easier on the staff when it comes time to review predictions.
  • We reserve the right to adjust the rules as needed based on observations or feedback. Standard forum rules apply.
  • As there are no real "prizes" (other than bragging rights!) you can make the same guess as someone else. Just remember that if they posted it first they are more likely to be named the winner (or there will be multiple winners).

CONTEST #1: What will be the localized names of Iwanko and Nekkoara? (Any language)

Nekkoara (now known as Komala)​

As of this writing, neither of these two new Pokemon have been discussed by Nintendo, Game Freak, or TPCi. However, they were officially revealed in the July 2016 Edition of Coro Coro magazine. We think there's a strong possibility that these two will be discussed in the news this Friday.

So post your predictions in the thread below! What do YOU think will be the localized names of these adorably cute critters? Remember, we are not restricting you to English localized names. Pokemon can be played in 9 languages now!

Mine is for the English names. (And I guess Spanish since they use the same names:p)

I think Nekkoara will just become Nekkoala. Or maybe even Narkoala.
Not sure about the dog. I thought about Geodog, but I think that sounds way too close to Geodude. I guess that's what I'll go with since I can't think of anything else atm, but I doubt that'll be the real name.
 
Hmm, how many guesses can we make?

For Iwanko I'd say Rockweiler (rock + rottweiler), Rockita (rock + akita) or Doggeo (doggy + geo)

For Nekkoala maybe Koalumber (koala + slumber or lumber), Koaleep (koala + sleep), Hypnoala (hypnos + koala) or Koaleth (koala + lethargic)
 
For Nekkola- "Moala"
Moe" is Hawaiian for "Rest".

Also, "Moe Moe" is Hawaiian for "Sleep".

Kinda like how they did it for Popplio.

I don't really have a good guess for the koala... I was gonna say Narkoala but someone above beat me to it. Oh well.

As for the dog, I'm gonna guess Puppoi, since it supposedly might be based off that poi dog.
 
A few guesses on my part:
Iwanko - so many puppy and rock puns. It could be anything at this point. My guess would be Barklay (although clay is more of a ground thing), Pubble, or Growvel (Growl + Gravel).
Nekkoara - If it is anything but Narkoala, I'll be surprised. If anything else, it could be Zzzoala, Eucoala, or Narkalyptus.
 
- For Iwanko I think it will either receive something similar to Litten, so "Ruppy" as in a Rock Puppy, or something like "Ro(c)ko" (prounounced row-ko) or "Puprow".
- For Nekkoala maybe something like "Koanap", or "Koara".
 
Gravup for Iwakno. Gravel+Pup
Snorala for Nekkoala. Snore+Koala
 
Gritz for Iwanko. Grit + spitz, since Bulbapedia suggests he's based off that breed.

As for Nekkoala I'll go with Koallow, as in koala + pillow.
 
Dobble for Iwanko (Dog + pebble) and Slumbber for Nekkoara (Slumber + lumber). Everyone's guessing names with koala in them, so I figure I'll try and change it up a little.

Not a huge fan of those names those names, but they're my guesses nonetheless. ^^

edit: promise I didn't see the post a few above with a similar combination of words for Nekkoara until just now. >_>

Iwanko - Dogsnout, Growlith kidding, I'll go with Canite (Canine + the -ite suffix used in lots of names for minerals/rocks)
Nekkoala - no idea really, could be anything. I'll guess Koalax

Gosh, I was thinking along the way of "canine" also, but you beat me to it. For Nekkoala, I'll go for Somnala.
 
For Iwanko I'll say Perrock. It wouldn't be the first they've used Spanish.
For Nekkoara I don't know, Dormala? I'm bad at this. Honestly I think it'll just be Nekkoala but some one else already guessed that so nah.
 
Pupple (Puppy + Pebble/Rubble) for Iwanko.

Koala is either going to keep it's name or be Narkoala, as so many have guessed.
 
Hm... this is hard lol.

Iwanko -> Pawble? Maybe Roppy? (Paw + Pebble or Rock + Puppy, respectively)

Nekkoala -> Zekoala (Zzz for sleep + koala)
 
For Nekkoara: I'd say Narkoala due to its similarity to the Japanese name + it's a nod to its Japanese name origin being narcolepsy + koala. But since it's already very popular, I'd also suggest Moejoey (mowijowi) or Dreamoey, since some of the names that are released sounds Hawaiian, and moe is Hawaiian for sleep, and young koala are known as joey, and they rhyme nicely and it sounds dreamy, as its species name.

For Iwanko: I think it'd be Poiwark, from Poi (Hawaiian Poi dog) + Iwa (Japanese for rock) + Bark and sounds like rock. Also from Pohaku (Hawaiian for rock). It's hard to use the puppy (young dog) and ilio (dog) in the name since we already have popplio.
 
With the official names having been announced today, it seems only @Vinx got a part of one name right.
Iwanko (イワンコ) -> Rockruff (Rock + Ruff)
Nekkoara (ネッコアラ) -> Komala (Coma + Koala)
 
The names were revealed to be Rockruff and Komala. A few people included "Rock" and "koala" in their names but weren't close enough to the final names to declare them all outright winners without including everyone else that did similar.

Look forward to the next contest when it's posted soon! :D
