I have an idea on an EV set for Metagross, however as I haven't seen this particular EV spread mentioned before, I feel as though it may not be a great idea.

My idea is to EV train Metagross in HP and defence, as well as give him an assault vest to increase special defence, or give him leftovers. My idea is to give him great defences to take the hits, and because he has natural high attack, still do somewhat decent damage to defensively weak pokemon.

I will not be using Metagross for mega evolution purposes.

I'd like to know what others think of this particular kind of ev trained Metagross. Some people may suggest to EV train his speed, however, since his speed is so low, I imagine most Pokemon will outspeed him anyway, which is why I prefer a strong defensive metagross to an ev trained attack and speed metagross.

Metagross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Atk / 96 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Meteor Mash
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake

this is a standard set actually

I actually have a Metagross with a very similar EV set! I find that it really throws most opponents off (by opponents I mostly mean my friends), because they do expect that "standard set" as mentioned above^. His natural attack really doesn't need much for boost, so I went with 252 HP / 160 Def / 98 SpD. soo..

Metagross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 98 SpD
Nature: Impish
- Meteor Mash
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt
- Stealth Rock

Hope that helps! I like Light Metal over Clear Body, because Metagross is supposed to be bulky so I'd rather stay away from moves like Low Kick and Grass Knot. And obviously he's not a super tank, Metagross with this set is still situational. If you need any help PM me!

First off you can't use Stealth Rock if you're holding an assault vest, that's literally what AV does. Second Clear Body is much more useful as you see Intimidate constantly and low kick almost never (unless you're playing Ubers). Third you need that 160 in attack a lot more than defense - 135 attack with no life orb or tough claws is a lot weaker than it sounds, and even with 160 def you aren't taking earthquakes anytime soon so no point doing that. Fourth you ABSOLUTELY need Pursuit as literally the ONLY reason to run AV Metagross over MMetagross is as a pursuit trapper since it can switch into Lati@s and Mega Alakazam with impunity and just click pursuit (252/96 with AV guarantees you live 2 MZam shadow balls after rocks)

Idk how I missed this. You got me on SR, not sure how I made that mistake. I meant Earthquake. You are right about what you said, but I did specifically say it was for battling my friends. It was my experience, battling my friends, with that set up that worked for me. Competitively that set up would be eaten alive.
