The official Pokemon X/Y strategy guide has gone up on Amazon, and it mentions some rather interesting things.

Included in the item description is something called “Super Training”. This brand new feature has yet to be officially announced by Nintendo or the Pokemon Company. While it’s unclear what it will offer, we do know that the developers will be offering the Super Training functionality in the 3DS games.

Also confirmed are the return of TMs, HMs and the Hall of Fame.

You can find the full Pokemon X/Y strategy guide description below.

• A complete walkthrough of all the Gym Badges and through the Hall of Fame!

• Detailed information on all the new game features, from Sky Battles and Horde Encounters to Super Training and Pokémon-Amie!

• A guide to where to find hidden items, TMs and HMs, and special Pokémon—with a location index!

• Hints on the best ways to use Roller Skates, ride Pokémon, and challenge Gym Leaders!

• A super effective Pokémon screen cleaner to keep your Nintendo 3DS system looking sharp!

• Helpful tips and tricks for getting the most out of the PSS and online play!

• An updated type matchup chart that includes the all-new Fairy type!

• Pullout map to guide you through the Kalos region!

Any Thoughts?

A super effective Pokémon screen cleaner to keep your Nintendo 3DS system looking sharp!

It's pathetic that I'm actually looking forward to this.

But about the actual guide, its description makes me actually want to buy a strategy guide for once. The only other one I have is for Pre-ordering BW2, otherwise, I probably wouldn't have gotten one.

I'm curious about:

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

People have been speculating this is a way to make EVs more visible. I'm not sure myself.

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

Pokemon Amie lets you raise EV quickly, I'm calling it :p

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

I'd love it if the "Super Training" followed up on the same training mechanic used in the new Mystery Dungeon - where you can train a Pokémon's moves to increase power, accuracy and PP... it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to pull it off in the main series in almost exactly the same manner.

However, as others have stated, it probably is the new funky EV thing... which, to be honest, isn't something I really get - they want to make them more visible to make it easier for folks to do it, is that right?

It would seem that way. The rumor stipulates that it will take as many as two hours to raise a single stat to max EVs via mini-games, so efficiency isn't the idea here.

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

so HMs are staying? That's not surprising but kinda disappointing.

At the E3 conference, I think they said that there are going to be way less HMs included in the game than there was before -- they confirmed the return of them, but they did say there's not going to be as many as in previous games.

^When did they say that?

Considering how often I have to clean my 3DS, I don't blame you.

That goes triple for me (since I have two 3DS and one DS Lite, I have several screens to clean that means). So that is actually quite helpful.

Anyway, since I don't really get the whole EV thing anyway, I'm generally ignoring that part (I understand it, but I don't really care either way). Though it may help in identifying my Pokemon's strengths and shortcomings more accurately, so I'll make a more sound judgement later, when I actually get the games and guide.

But I'm guessing that, with all these new features, as well as more detailed hints and info, the guide book would really be a help. Much more helpful that past guides. While I still buy game guides (a bit redundant at times, but I find them helpful nonetheless), this will be a guide I will have to get, without question. On top of that, it'll actually reveal the locations of the hidden items, and the treasure hunter in me finds that very valuable.

On another note, it appears HMs will be drastically reduced. I'm guessing only moves like Fly, Surf, and maybe Strength and Waterfall might still be needed. But if Pokemon like Gogoat and Rhyhorn will be able to move obstacles without HMs and such, and the player character is more able (swinging, grinding, etc...), the the overall need for HMs is understandably less. Gen V seemed to pick up on that idea, so it appears Gen VI will further expand that. At least it'll remove the need for an HM slave (*shudders* I hate that term).

So, overall, I'm really looking forward to both the games and the game guide.

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

I'm probably gonna buy it for the screen cleaner and map of Kalos.

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

I just hope there's more new, major features than just what this book talks about...bar Super Training, which we most likely know about, we know about everything else which is a bit disappointing.

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

Ooh, I'm going to have to order this soon! I am quite curious as to what this Super Training is all about too.

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

I'm more interested about the skates needing a hint section. If that means stuff like the acro bikes rail grinding and such..oh yeah. But super training? Uneventful name, but its what it does that's important. Somethin tells me its not the EV thing.

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

• An updated type matchup chart that includes the all-new Fairy type!

This makes it seem like there are more changes to the type chart than just the addition of the Fairy-type.

Well, they are going to have to add its resistances and strengths, so it will affect the other types, too~

Re: Pokemon X/Y official guide confirms "Super Training"

I want to see that type chart. >:]

I'll probably end up picking a copy up at some point.

Why are they keeping HMs? I hope they've been made deleteable and basically are just TMs with a different name, because right now they are merely a hinderance for absolutely no reason.

• Hints on the best ways to use Roller Skates, ride Pokémon, and challenge Gym Leaders!
The way this is worded is very interesting. It implies you can do more with the skates than just go faster... and it implies riding pokémon is a thing beyond just Gogoat in that town.
Interesting both are in the same sentence as "best ways to challenge Gym Leaders"...

• An updated type matchup chart that includes the all-new Fairy type!
This brings a good point on how further information on the Fairy type will be treated. Maybe they are thinking of its matchups beyond Dragon as something to discover in-game rather than something to necessarialy start playing with the knowledge of (thus the details being in a game guide, rather than say, the game manual or something), which means that we may not get detailed information of it until release.
