Well, after my last four CG pics went off well enough, I decided I'd try a new one, this time with more of a real background (of sorts... I've never really been a person for drawing good backgrounds  ). It's another CG of course, since my scanner is still not working, and it's of my Marshtomp Newman who recently evolved. =p

Newman

There's one considerable error that's irking me, but it's nothing too noticeable I guess. Anyway, any CC or whatever is appreciated.

Wow. I love it. Colors are nice, ect, ect. :p~ I like your style, and I haven't seen it used anywhere else, and I think it's sweet, dawgette. ^___________^ *^5's GS*

Try to get PhotoShop, or PaintShopPro if you don't have it, and use those effects for the background. Sure, you didn't draw it, but hehehehe...ok..n/m....OMFG LOOK, CAPTIAN PLANET@@!!$

Swampert<Marshtomp. Btw, i'd call mine Mo, but it's a Swampert now. ;-;(ponders breeding....his pokamon ;/)

Actually, this whole pic was done with Photoshop, including the minimalist effort of a background. I'm working on another now though that has a *real* background, and I guess it's turning out alright, but I still don't think they're my strong suit. Eh well, what're you gonna do.

And that may be true, but my Seviper > all. :-D *points* Go, Beauregard! Take no prisoners! Show them all what you're made of!!

Oy.

This Marshtomp is very well done. I love how you made the lines thicker to give it a slightly chibi look. The eyes are lovely, the shading is fabulous. Two thumbs up, GS! ~_^

So...unbearably...CUTE! Ahhhh! ~Chases after it~ Come here, you cutie thing you! ^-^" I like the background, nice bubbles.

Oh my goodness! That's one of the best pokémon fanart I've ever seen. Everything on it is so... so... clean and well done. ^_^ Did you use a tablet or a mouse to do your CG pictures? Because if you use the mouse... YOU're A GENIUS! :-D

*lol at Myuu*

And actually, I use a mouse... *puts on accent* Vat do you mean by zis... zis 'tablet'? But seriously, I'm not really sure what that is... like I said on my other thread I'm sort of a newbie to doing art on the computer. I just draw the character with the pencil tool, then go over it on another layer with the second-to-the-smallest of the brushes, and just keep going over and over the lines in places to thicken and taper them like that (at 400 magnification, otherwise it's way too difficult). Lastly comes the coloring, shading, and background, which I think is fun to do... the lines by far are the most time-consuming and tiresome process...

I mean, I think this one came out better than the last four I posted, but one of the best?? ^^;; *reddens* I don't know about that, though I appreciate the incredibly kind feedback all the same... personally I think the one I'm working on at the moment (Gloom) is coming out even nicer, but I guess time will tell when I finally get it up.

Anyway, thanks a lot for all the posts all... I guess none of you guys noticed the way Marshtomp's left gill looks so much bigger than the right, and especially considering the perspective from the angle?? That's still bugging me--I'd probably like this one a lot more if I'd noticed that when I still capable of correcting it.

I kinda guessed. I assumed if you did use it, you didn't use a ton of effects, since I know most of them by heart(ty V.I. class :D), I meant ones like lighting, ect. In any case, that's a nice picture.

Heh, cool name. Makes me think of your real pet snake.^^; Umbreon will always be my fav. I have no set name, kinda strange, but my most used name for it is Umbra/Umbrage, or Luna/o. For humor, maybe Uranus. =D

For some reason I missed that gill issue. Art doesn't have to be perfect, it's about expressing yourself. Just say it's a 'special' Pokémon. XD

Well, Arbok has pretty much always been and looks to always be my #1 favorite pokémon, though now that I've finally played Sapphire Seviper is pretty high up there too (like I've said before, I really just have a thing for snakes in general). My Arbok on Crystal is my Pokémon that's actually named after my real snake of course, though the lazy Beauregard isn't too far off either. =P Fat lazy pet snake... I actually need to feed him soon; poor babe hasn't eaten in almost two weeks now...

Anyway though, yeah I don't really use any of the effects in/on my drawings, namely because I really don't know how to use them. Aside from all the standard selection/magnification tools, basically the only things I use are the pencil, paintbrush, and gradient tools, and manipulate the whole thing by messing around with layer order and opacity... that's it.

And about the gill thing, I guess I'm just a perfectionist. But 'special' works (Wizardmon: "Special means retarded! Special means retarded!" [/PokéMUSH reference])

I'm more into Dragons myself, altho I have it for the four-legged ones as well, like Arcanine and of course Umbreon.

Got me red handed.

Hehe...

Ehm, what--you mean about the retarded thing, or about PokéMUSH? ^^; Because, I've never met anyone else before who even had a clue what that is... I don't actually play on it myself, but I've been to their site before...

lol

Combination of both. I've seen that line at MUSH before, so yeah...that's the ticket! :D

"Oh bless em'. Swampy tries his best." XP

Wow. Well, I can't say that I saw that coming... like I said I've never met anyone who's even heard of the place, let alone has actually visited the site. I might consider joining myself, if I actually had a frikkin' clue how in the world it is one "MUSHes" that is... I don't even understand most basic chatroom commands (which is precisely why I stick exclusively to message boards). GS the techno-savvy I ain't...

Oh well though, that's probably enough spamming for one night. Besides, I'm supposed to make a hair appointment early tomorrow morning... *falls asleep on the keyboard*

Chats aren't that bad, besides the perverts, ect....oo;;..I..I mean..hehehe ^^; It's confusing at firstm but it's fun.

I should stop too. I like your art tho. :D *stops before the hate for Togepi is taken out on thee =X*

I can help you with that. :)

First, you'll need to download a MU* client; I suggest SimpleMU, which can be downloaded here. Play around with the program for a while to see how it works... It's overwhelming and confusing at first, but just remember not to panic, and to look everything over rationally. ^_^;

Then, find an address and port number for the MU* you want to log onto; they usually have them somewhere on their webpages, in the format of blah.blah.org:6969 (blah.blah.org being the address, 6969 being the port). Imput these into SimpleMU's New Address Wizard, along with some additional information. Then once you have the address made, log onto the MU*. Once you're logged on, you can usually get in as a guest by typing 'connect guest guest', and if the MU* is anywhere near decent, you'll be told what to do from there. :)

Also: I'd advise against logging onto PokeMUSH: Pokemon Evolutions. They throw fits whenever you make a typo or grammatical error, since they're a bunch of high-nosed word-nazis. I've also heard nightmare tales from people who RP there, about needing to make page-long poses about their character picking their nose so as not to be frowned upon and called an idiot.

Some better, less intimidating, overall much more friendly MU*s would be Pokemon Neo MUCK (I've never been there, but I hear good things), Pokemorph MUSH (my favorite; an acquired taste; currently down due to server trouble), and Pokemon: A New Beginning MUSH (the granddaddy of them all, or so I'm told).

MU*ing is pretty dang intimidating now that I take a step back and look at it; but once you take an hour or three to figure out the programs, get help with the commands from your local friendly MU* helpstaff, and start roleplaying... It gets pretty fun, pretty fast. :)

And now, back to your regularly scheduled art-topic.

Back to the art topic. ^^; That is REALLY CUTE. I have zilch talent in background-making, and if you do too, it doesn't show. Those thick lines chibi-fy him, yes, I agree, and he's just so cleanly colored and innocent looking that I can't help but love him.

I have a Marshtomp too, named Luffy. I was kind of sad when he evolved; I just can't stand to lose a cute pokemon (don't blame me! It's my character! Her theme is "Cuteness is Best!"). But Luffy is cute no matter what, nyaa. Newman reminds me of him. ^_^

*returns with hair 15 inches shorter x_x*

Wow, thanks Karate! Yeah, that definitely does help, should I decide to try and get into that at some point in the future (it does look like fun, but I know it also takes a lot of time ideally, and here I am trying to find some full-time employment, and fast). And I agree--Pokémon Evolutions has always seemed a bit intimidating to me, otherwise I might have tried joining a long time ago despite my lack of MUSHing knowledge... I also can't understand why they don't include the G/S pokémon at all, yet go and create a bunch of their own original pokémon. Go figure.

Anyways though, yeah back to the art topic. Do thicker lines really chibi-fy the Marshtomp, or any of my other pokémon I've drawn? Because really, that's not what I was intending when I used to technique... it's just a characteristic of my style, in my CG pics and otherwise. For example, the pokémon in this pic were made to look chibi-ish (or at least, that was my intent... some ended up looking a lot moreso than others  ) and I think it has much more to do with the proportioning than the line thickness. Though, I guess if thicker lines just make Newman look cuter somehow, it's not a bad thing either...

Anyway, thanks for the replies.

Realy cute. A very nice pose and well shaded. That's all I can say about it. It's just good.:)
