Ealier today, I looked at Gamereactor's website (a scandinavian gaming magazine) to see if anything new in the gaming industry have appeared. What I stumpled upon, was this, which I have translated with Google translate, so it's not perfect:

Bioware has large and long-term plans for their upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, and hope that the game can be kept running for decades. This was told by senior creative director James Ohlen during a panel discussion at Comic Con.

"I can tell you that we have 19 major worlds," he said. "So we have an undetermined number of smaller worlds. And our goal, because this of course is an online game is that we can last for decades and we will of course add more to the galaxy map as the game progresses."

"We will be adding dozens of worlds," said Ohlen. "Hundreds of worlds later on. In 2025, we hopefully have 500 worlds."

The link to the article is here. However, it is with the danish language, just so you know.

What are your thoughts about this? Is it even a realistic goal?

Ultima online is still going, Everquest is still going, and fans are still keeping PSO alive. MMOS can last a long time.

Yes, it is realistic. As long as it remains popular, and Star Wars is not gonna die off for a loooooong time. :)
