The Civil War in Syria has been raging for over three years now, with no end in sight. Recently, it has come into the headlines again with reports of chemical weapons once again being used by the government. Chemical weapons were the subject of tension some months ago, with potential US involvement in the war avoided when Syria agreed to destroy its chemical weapons stock. Discuss this and other issues related to the Syrian Civil War here, but please be sure to keep things civil.

It was never proven that the Assad Administration had used chemical weapons on the rebels.
These rebels aren't cuddly freedom fighters, a lot of them have links to Al Qaeda and other radical islamist groups.
Before the war broke out in 2011 Syria was relatively modern and developed compared to many in the region, now in towns that the rebels control Sharia is being imposed, and the rights of women and minorities are being restricted. One boy was even executed in one town for blasphemy (one of the rebels tried to get something for free off the boy who was running his mum's shop/stand and the boy said "not if the phophet himself asked" and was whipped and shot.

The Assad administration is not ideal by any means but I'd much prefer him to the current mob trying to take over.
The last thing we need is another Mohammed Morsi like they had in Egypt.

I am thankful that our parliament voted against our government on the issue of going to war in Syria and that this caused the Obama regime to back down as well.

Let's not lump all the opposition groups together. Yes, there are rebels in Syria with ties to terrorist organizations, but not all of them do. The Syrian National Council, for example, which is the most widely supported opposition group, and has even taken Syria's seat in the Arab League.

Also, while it was indeed not "conclusively proven" that the Assad regime was responsible for Ghouta, it's pretty damn likely.
