Tag Battle Pokemon League! Is This something You'd Like to See Down the Road?

This is something that's been on my mind for quite a while. I'm wondering how everyone would feel if Ash/Satoshi participated in a Tag Battle Pokemon League later in the series (possibly during the 6th, or even 5th generation series).

Just to fill in those who don't know, a Tag Battle is a battle in which two trainers on the same team simultaneously command their Pokemon in a competition against two other trainers and their Pokemon. The concept pretty much began during the Advanced Generation Saga, and has become a bit more prominent in the Diamond & Pearl series with the 3-episode Tag Battle Arc.

Now, as far as an entire Pokemon League centered around Tag Battles, I'm all for it. I think it would be a great way to not only test Ash/Satoshi's ability to work with his own Pokemon, but also with another trainer and his/her Pokemon as well.

Plus, I think it would be a unique change for a series that often seems repetitive going from one generation to the next.

Sounds cool. Who would be the character who always battled with him, the main girl of that generation?

I agree the writers are stuck in a trap now that its hard to imagine if Contests were ever dropped from the series for the female to do something else in the future.

Scott, Contests in anime will never be dropped. They are way too popular to be dropped now. If they wanted to drop them they woiuld have did it in Gen 4. Now, after two main game lines and three anime regions is too late to do so.

Anyway, to topic. Back during Avanced Generation, I even wrote fanfic where my two heroes challenged Hoenn Gym Leaders for Double Battles. It weren't real Tag Battles, since it was my two heroes against one Gym Leader. I even wanted to apply Tag Contests for my other heroes who were Coordinators. But I dropped this fic after their first Double Gym Battle (which was against Brawly, since they both beat Roxanne separately) and before first Tag Contest. But the idea of Double Battles against Gym Leaders or even whole Tag Battle League still interest me, so I would be all for it.
But I seriously doubt writers will do this in main region. But it may be interesting idea for some filler saga. I can even imagine this for Filler saga right after Sinnoh. It would be even better if not only League would be Tag Battle but even Contests would be based on Tag Appeals and Tag Battles. I can imagine, in that case, Nando may replace Brock and Tag Battle with Ash against Gym Leaders and Tag Coordinate with Dawn in Tag Contests. It would be hillarious.

I don't know about an entire league centered around tag battles, since we already have arcs like the Tag Battle Tournament for that. But one or two rounds in the league with mandatory tag battles would be nice.

How the hell would a Tag Battle league even WORK beyond the preliminaries? Would there be two winners? Would the top tag battle team battle each other in the last round? Would people be stuck with the same partner throughout, or could they change througout the tournment? Would they be FORCED to change, to keep things fair(ie. nobody gets stuck with a terribly weak partner for the entire tournement)?

I liked the tag battle tournement arc, but that was mostly because of the characters involved(Paul! Conway! BROCK IS DOING SOMETHING!). And although I wouldn't mind seeing a tag battle tourney again, the League is not the place for it. Unless, as I said, it was kept to the preliminary rounds(where it sort-of makes sense since it'd eliminate people faster. But it wouldn't exactly be fair. Although then I could see the writers doing an ep where Ash is facing two people of regular(or even above-average) strength, but Ash's partner is weak...)

They only kept the Contests in Gen 4 because the games had them. If the games didn't have them, they probaby would drop them at the drop of a hat (hey, that rhymed!), since unlike the Battle Frontier Saga, which was a combination of Emerald and FireRed and LeafGreen, there is no way to incorporate contests if they weren't in the main games (besides which, Contests are ultimately small time compared to Ash's goal. Ever noticed how Ash continues with his goal, and yet people like May and eventually Dawn actually end up being replaced? If they can easily replace a main coordinator, and yet they apparently cannot replace the gym battler, it's pretty much evident and inevitable that unlike Gym Battles/Leagues, the Pokemon Contests are easily expendable. Sure, we've got Jessie, but she's best trying to do it offscreen, since without the main protagonistic character participating in contests, they won't be capable of having her compete unless they have her actually JOIN Ash's group.).

Well, a Tag League would definitely be different, that's all I can say. I wonder how they can compensate the winners for their victory, though.

Weedle, if you really believe the crap you wrote about Contests, than you are... well, I rather stop here, or I'll personal attack you. Contests now are as important in anime as Gyms are. Deal with it. And, as I mentioned, they are also popular. If writers will ever get rid of them, there sure will be many complaints about it and I can imagine even drop of the ratings.
And we better not turn this topic on Contest debate, so I will not react on this anymore.

Well, a Tag League would definitely be different, that's all I can say. I wonder how they can compensate the winners for their victory, though.

Obviously, the winners will be allow to Tag battle in Tag Elite 4 ;-)

Iwould love to see this (with Hikari or Aoi as partner) and I don't see a reason why there shall not be two winners or rather a winning Tag team. They also could make them both battle separately against the Elite Four and the champion or together, depends on their choice. The elites are surely strong enough to keep two trainers busy.
