Seriously guys, I'm trying too get better, much better, so could you look at the pictures and tell me what you like about them, what looks odd, what could be improved, (possibly) how too improve said things, and general tips? Thanks. :D <3 All my artworks are up on http://takoto.deviantart.com

Feedback, you ask? Well, I'm no art critic, but anyway...

Silver: I really like the style used here, but his neck strikes me as being a bit too long. Also, his expression is a tad odd. The detailing of the hair is very nice, though, and probably the highlight of the entire piece.

Articuno: I think I like this piece above the others; it appears to have been done very well, and Articuno looks somewhat better without those huge anime eyes. The wings should probably be a tad bigger, but that's not too big a problem.

Drifloon: This piece is really quite cute, and I've got basically nothing bad to say about it. You did well here.

I'll comment on the Poke-art:

Silver's looking good! But the left side of his face (his left, not ours) looks a little flat. So I'd say next time try to make the jawbone a little more prominient.

And Articuno does look semi-realistic.

Drifloon is my favorite though. I think its very cute. If you shrink it down, it could make a nice avatar.

I don't like being so frank, especially when it comes to art (because I like people to develop their own styles)

But a figure guide would help you a lot. (I don't remember what it's called, but the sketchy circles and stuff such that you can line up the faces and proportions better)

I think that is the main issue, just work on proportions. Next up is don't worry about running out of paper/space. if you need to go past the page go past the page (but in the future, don't be afraid to draw smaller, or increase the canvas size and then shrink down the image later) That was mainly the Articuno picture. Lastly, I'll say something that I'm always reminding myself: Don't forget the details, and you can always learn new drawing techniques by studying your favorite artist's style and line-style.

You show a lot of talent, I think with even just starting to use the figure guides you'll improve a lot quickly!

I usually do use figure guides, I did for the face with Silver, but not for the others as they started out mostly as doodles, which I wanted too take further.

and thanks :3

Yeah, I see what you mean about the looking a little flat. Thanks :3

Yeah I just realized his neck is longer than it should be xD and yeah his expression was pretty much random, but in the end I tried too make him look like he was being smug... Because I imagine Silver as being really smug too everyone xD

Yeah, I always really like pictures of the legendary birds (especially, Articuno) where they look more realistic. And thanks. :3

Hmmm... well, I never was much of a teacher... Maybe if that is the case... are you using face guide lines? they may be sketchy but they work for lining up eyes and noses to the face. Though I also think the guides are only used as a guide...(not something I need to fallow 1 to 1) so whatever looks right. I guess I attached an image of a quick sketch to show how I use them (though I tend to not use them much when drawing animals).

I will say that with the guides, at first I used them for precision, but now I'll use it for most doodles as well. Most of the time, maybe it can be seen as like a crutch, but don't be discouraged from using them when it can help. In cases of PC sketches... try on another layer? I don't draw with my tablet usually or with my mouse anymore so I don't know the best way to handle it. (But it seems to help with me, though, since it's easier to tweak computer images it may not be as important)

Hmm... I'm not sure how else you can improve then. Maybe practice and observe others (Like favorite artists and the like). Really, you'd be surprised with the kinds of special effects and techniques you can learn how to do that way. Also, still yeah, the perspectives, keep on that. Also, it helps me to never think of anything as either your best, or to think of what someone else has done as unobtainable (This includes amazing things seen at things like Deviart or even favorite TV programs or artist). I think a person will plateau if they think that way.

I hope this helps because I can see you drawing some pretty amazing stuff in at least a few years time.

You might want to look at BakaNeko, and copy their drawing tutorials to get a feel on proportions. Another thing to look at are studies of real-life art. Because, remember, anime drawing is really just a stylized version of real anatomy. It also helps to stare at yourself in the mirror and take a variety of poses, and note how your body ends up looking like when you take the poses.

On to the actual drawings.

Silver is good, but remember to shade and highlight your hair not with shiny single lines, but something that looks a bit more jagged and irregular (funny enough, Mammoswine's fur is a good example of what I meant). Silver's chin should also have an angle, caused by his jawbone -- it's part of the reason real body study is so important to artists when you go out of the standard profile or front views. His neck is also too long for his body, and his chest is too flat -- even a muscular man's chest isn't flat, there's always some roundness because the muscles overlap the ribcage, which is usually rounded.

For Articuno, I'd search for pictures or videos that show a falconeer making his falcon in the middle of landing or lifting away from their gloved fist, and see if you can reduce it to simple, straight lines, then adapt that to Articuno. It makes it much more realistic when you look how the Pokémon's real-life equivalents move. Articuno's leg should have a backward-bent "knee" (technically, it's its ankle), and the toes aren't quite right -- again, observe how predatory birds grasp food and preys in their feet.

On the Black Mage, I'd advise you to check out how drapes, togas and robes are drawn, with folds and shadows and highlights, they're never completely flat, and the Black Mage's shoulders should have a slight downward slant. Look at your own shoulders... Even squared, they don't come out of your body as two balls of muscle near your neck, right? And never forget that the Black Mage's hat needs to be at an angle, hiding a bit of the back of the Mage's head. The hat's brim is wide, too -- it's the source of the shadows that covers a Black Mage's entire face, and why their yellow eyes shine that much without revealing any of the mage's features. Here, a good model would be the Final Fantasy Tactics' artwork of the Black Mage.

Thanks for all of the info guys :'D You're all awesome.
I'll take a look at BakaNeko's tutorials at some point~

Driftloon Is Awesome, I Love The Art Style Right There, Please, More Like That.

=]

All of them are very flat, you need to use way darker colors, and not try to smudge it all over the place. A lot of the shadows look like smudges, which isn't very good I think. Try cel-shading, it is pretty easy. Your curves aren't even that smooth, try a smaller brush if you can, I've never used PS so I don't know really..but it's probably similar enough to GIMP.

Just keeep trying different techniques too

Being a Final Fantasy fan, I can only help with the Black Mage. Not much wrong here, but a few tweaks would make it look like concept art straight from Square studios. First off, I never remembered the collar all that high, so proportion might help here. The hat was tilted back a little as I remember, to allow the mage to see but still protect the front and back of his head. One more thing, don't worry about being realalistic with your mages cloak, his rear end doesn't have to have an imprint.

Edit: Whoops! Maybe those are legs! Still, his cloak doesn't have leg holes. Emagine him wearing a bed sheet.
