I really think they need to expand the types in the TCG. Here's what I think the types should be:

  1. Normal (Normal, Flying)
  2. Fire
  3. Water (Water, Ice)
  4. Nature (Grass, Bug, Poison)
  5. Lightning
  6. Fighting
  7. Rock (Rock, Ground, Steel)
  8. Dark (Ghost, Dark)
  9. Dragon
  10. Physicic
I changed it now.

You do realize this would copletley unbalance the game, and they'd have to pretty work the game structure from the ground up? A beauty of the Pokemon TCG is that you can play with any cards from any generation, but this idea would throw that right out the window. Also, Bug is in two catergories? Overall, this change is pretty useless and unnecessary.

The only type related changes that I think need to be made are for Poison to be made a regular type with its own energy (purely because of how many Poison type Pokémon there are, outnumbering Fire, Electric, Dark and Steel). Also, I'd like to see Colourless be name-changed to Normal and have its own energy type, but retaining the mechanic it currently has - I hate making a Colourless deck and using Fire energies to cover attack costs, it just looks weird to me.

I also believe that because Poison was turned to Psychic with the release of the Diamond & Pearl expansions, giving Psychic three types in its pool, it kind-of really off-balanced the game a bit. Personally, as an extension of Poison being given its own energy type, I'd like to see Ghost come under the Dark type instead - for one, I find it more fitting, and I think it would be beneficial to make the Dark type a little bit more plentiful to help balance the types out a bit.

As a competitive player, here's my viewpoint:

Yes, it would make the TCG's typing system more closely resemble the video game's, and would make more sense as far as a literal aspect went. I mean, Rayquaza shouldn't be fucking weak to Pidgey (not that it is anymore, given the new Dragon typing). That said, I'm opposed to type expansion because of the confusion it would introduce. Simple is good at this point.

So what you did was : Change the name of grass to nature, moved ghost (VG) to dark (TCG), made fighting its own type, and dropped Steel (TCG and VG), Poison (VG), and Ice (VG). How does this help anything?

I actually think the typing is just fine the way it is. Any attempt to do a major overhaul would not go over well with the majority of players, due to what we are used to.
