LAND 'O LAKES, Fla. -- A substitute teacher in Pasco County has lost his job after being accused of wizardry.

Teacher Jim Piculas does a magic trick where a toothpick disappears and then reappears.

Piculas recently did the 30-second trick in front of a classroom at Rushe Middle School in Land 'O Lakes.

Piculas said he then got a call from the supervisor of teachers, saying he'd been accused of wizardry.

"I get a call the middle of the day from head of supervisor of substitute teachers. He says, 'Jim, we have a huge issue, you can't take any more assignments you need to come in right away,'" he said.

Piculas said he did not know of any other accusations that would have led to the action.

The teacher said he is concerned that the incident may prevent him from
getting future jobs.

Just calling bullshit on this because I always feel compelled to do so.

Why me.

Anyway. This would happen in an insane amount of countries.

The only point would be an industrialized or else world power country pulling something off like this.

That little comment killed the lulz for me. Which is a shame because it's such a ridiculous story. Eesh.

Illusionist =/= Sorcerer.

Though I guess having "reason for termination: ZOMG he's an! illusionist" listed on official documents just makes it look dumb(er than it is in the first place). I bet Halloween is simply a hoot in that place. :p
 
Seriously, WHAT. THE. HECK.

Yeah. They're all like, "Oh yeah, we fire a substitute because the paranoid soccer moms say so. Good god, he did a slieght of hand, which, according to those soccer moms and the snot-nosed brats that don't know any better and our dumb-crap school board, is the same as wizardry. Woo. And according to some religions, alchemy is the science of the devil, yet we haven't protested against adult swim for airing a show titled Fullmetal ALCHEMIST? And what about Inuyasha? They have magic AND demons! And what about Naruto?! That's on toonami and has demons and the so-called "ninja" can make things appear out of nowhere, which must be horrible if we fire some dude for a little parlor trick! But naw, that's not as serious as the parlor trick that anyone could do."



That's how stupid I think those people are. Now, I'm not bashing the three shows that I listed. Those, in fact, are 3 of my favorite animes. But hopefully you guys got a good laugh out of my rant.

You might have to try and deal with the fact that America is seen as one of the only places in the world where uteerly insane things can happen.

Ridiculous story, really. :lol:
 
Maybe the school was a Wizarding School, and he was really fired for such lameass magic.

Unless you count...everywhere else. Or need I mention the countless crazy Australian stories? Let's face it, this whole world's fucked up at one time or another. This is fairly tame when compared with the story out of India a month or so ago where a woman was tied to a tree for committing "witchcraft." And, let's not forget the penis theft.

Obviously magic is all around us.

But you forget that everyone hates america all over the world. people (i.e me) will take the first chance they get to start bashing you yanks, regardless of whats happening in other countries.

Back on topic, WTHFT Just happened!? You can barely fire a person for letting the kids blow off some steam, but MAGIC TRICKS? someone needs a good smack around the head with an encyclopedia of tricks.
 
Wow so if they fired a sub for a lame magic trick what would they do to a full on wictch and/or wizard? Harry Potter if you are reading this forum stay away from florida.
 
I could pull a better magic trick out of my ass. In fact, that might be a great trick.

Of course there are backward places in every country. America, though, has more than most.

I'm not saying America's perfect. I'm...not that stupid/nationalistic/whatever. But, c'mon, we're not stupid. We just...have stupid people. And stupid news agencies that demand on putting out only the stupidest of news stories. Blame Ted Turner. Or Rupert Murdoch (and, let's not forget WHERE Mr. Murdoch is from).
