When Ash ditches his old Pokémon for new ones, he now leaves them at Professor Oak's lab. Similarly, Brock, Misty and May leave their Pokémon at their respective Gyms. Spotted the problem yet?

Lickitung was traded away. Victreebell left to make Bellsprouts in Johto. Arbok and Weezing left to protect the Koffing and Ekans in Hoenn. While we get the occasional chance to see the Pokémon owned by Ash-tachi again, Team Rocket's Pokémon are gone for good. Chimecho was at least left at somewhere James could return to, though he still won't have such easy access while travelling in the D/P region.

Team Rocket keep leaving their Pokémon where they can't come back and the writers are running out of storylines in which to get rid of them. Meowth, Wobbuffet and Manene should be safe for the next region but the same can't be said for Cacnea, Seviper or Dustox.

...And now I've lost my train of thought. Anyway, discuss.

They might be lazy and pull another Johto -- save Seviper, Cacnea, and Dustox, bringing them into the new region.

After, they can just pile on newer Pokemon. I know that, by principle, TR isn't supposed to have too many Pokemon, but that doesn't mean they can't neglect specific Pokemon for others. They're actually quite good at that (helloooo Dustox).

Even though Seviper and Cacnea are getting old (how could that compare to the King's of worn out, Arbok and Weezing), I'd hate to see them go.

Team Rocket has also temperaroly(sp?) owned quite a few Pokemon---Shellder, Growlithe and Garydos, to be precise. My point is that they always get abused by Team Rocket, so they leave/are let go by Jessie and James.

For the record, Butch and Cassidy have owned many temporary Pokemon.

well i'm hoping that they leave the show next season because im getting sick of them in every episode, but anyway if they do get rid of the pokemon they will probably give it to the boss or something.

Dustox has already been more or less dropped. If they keep it for D/P Saga i'd be extremely surprised.

I'm sure at the very least Seviper and Cacnea will be here for the D/P region. They are the "new" Arbok and Weezing. They're the Pokemon they use to battle with the most, and although they could be replaced with D/P Pokes, I hope they stay.

Wobbufett has become more of a mascot, so he'll be here. Manene will remain, as the D/P region is what it's supposed to be in.

I could see Dustox leaving, especially since May left her Beautifly. I mean, the whole rivalry between Jessie and May kind of fizzled out overtime. They always used to compete with their Wurmple and Beautifly/Dustox, but that ended quickly.

I'm still hoping James gets Chimecho back, because it's still in the opening long after it's gone and a TCG card hints to its return.

...I cried when Jessie made James get rid of Victreebel. And when Jessie got rid of Arbok. Really, they need to let them keep them.

Maybe slightly off-topic, but would Team Rocket be limited to six pokemon each?

That doesn't affect the main point of this thread, but none of those were abused. Growlithe was James' friend for many years. Gyarados and Shellder both evolved shortly after being obtained but neither of them were abused and certainly did not leave for that reason.

Do we know that as canon? Houndour/Hitmontop returned. As did Mightyena/Sableye.

I doubt it... though it would be funny to see Cacnea take to its new master.

Team Rocket will probably never get that many, though if they do I presume the same restrictions would be placed on them.

I can't imagine either of them ever giving Sakaki a pokémon they're personally raised. We've seen how emotional things get when they've been forced to get rid of their pokémon in the past, or even for Kojirou to leave Chiriin with someone he knows and trusts.
