Tell us what you think of the character above!

Maybe the shy character trait is overdone, but I still love Allister. His role in the anime may be brief, but I do love the bonding that he and Ash's Gengar develop in the few episodes they are in together. I wouldn't have minded if the anime further explored the idea that Stow-on-Side had two gyms.

Dr. Namba (the one that Butch and Cassidy worked with during the Whirl Islands arc)

Honestly I tend to forget all about him, which is odd considering that Lugia arc was otherwise a very memorable part of Johto to me...
It'd have been nice if we actually got to know more about his goals, since there was a lot of interesting stuff alluded to (like the Rage Crowns, or the project to infect Pokémon with Pokérus), but none of it was ever really explained nor expanded upon. (Also he looks so much like Dr. Wily that it's uncanny)

Janine?

(gold starred for mega man) she's pretty cool. street fighter's ibuki gave me a lifelong soft spot for ninja girls. i think i like her more than koga, she's not quite my favorite kanto gym leader but i think janine is neat in her own way.

steven stone!

I like him! I know people who like collecting stones, and it was nice to see such a realistically depicted stone-loving character in Pokémon. I think there's much more to him, but I'm not a member of the Steven Stone Fan Club, so this is all from me :wynaut:

Since Steven was mentioned... Wallace?

I had no real opinion on Wallace for the longest time, but now that I have a few friends who really adore him, I've found that I kinda like him a bit more these days purely out of association lol. He seems like a nice person, and he has some sharp fashion sense — this costume of his from the anime always looked so cool to me (and I'm surprised that I've never seen any fanart of it :hmm: ).

Winona?

oki did you go for the whole torchic daimikunagi trio on purpose

I like Winona!! Lots of my interaction with her has been through my own headcanon/ficverse version of her, and Torchic's own version of her, but what can I say... she owns an Altaria, which is always a plus?? Her old design had some charm to it, but they did wonderfully with the ORAS redesign IMHO, and it really made me enjoy her a bit more! She's a girlboss I guess LOL, although that may be my headcanon speaking a bit too much!?

As tempted as I am to give my namesake or my subway master of a big sister's favorite, I will go a bit out of my way for this one!

Anabel?

Anabel pre-USUM is okay. Her abilities in the anime seem interesting though. And then comes USUM where she becomes Agent Anabel. Then, you question “What happened to the battle frontier in her world” or “What about her family?”. Many interesting questions to wonder. Her design in USUM is much cooler than her Emerald design. It’s a more sophisticated look. I have to admit though, I think Ingo’s transportation into a new world is much more interesting as we know someone who is close to him, Emmet.

Saturn

Blue is great, except when he's a rival. In his every non-rival appearance, he's got plenty of attitude and charm and is generally a likable character, but as a rival his personality is just "cocky jerk for no reason" and I find it annoying. I do appreciate that they expanded more on his character in later games, though. The way Blue is when he's a rival holds him back from being one of my favorite characters, but aside from that, he's very cool. (y)

oh yes, thats why i used to hate him. i just kind of thought him to be an inferior silver because silver has a reason for acting the way he does, while blue just harrassed the player for the fun of it. it was his appearances as a gym leader + gen 7 + masters that made me really like him, and now i just really love him in general (while acknowledging that hes still a twat :p)
I swear, the Normal type gym leaders are built different.
the realest statement of all time

ok. to actually answer the question, i actually like her. i know some people love her because of the "strong mon weak mon" quote while others hate her for it, but i enjoy her because she's super unique compared to all other dark-type users in the series. she doesnt look like a stereotypical dark user, for one, nor does she act like one. nothing about her is "edgy" in the slightest (sidney sort of does this, he has a super enthusiastic and lively, positive personality, but he does kinda have an edgier design as far as this series goes), her personality is super mature and friendly... she's the first ever dark-type specialist in the series, yet she manages to defy expectations for them more than any other one in pokemon (in my opinion). so i certainly have an appreciation for her.
(by the way, she's both right and wrong. i believe it's canon that a very gifted trainer can make even relatively weak pokemon work well... such things happen irl too, considering what that infamous pachirisu has managed, but at the end of the day, some pokemon simply are objectively stronger than others. this doesnt make them worth any more or less, but it's simply how the world works, much like real animals. that's how the food chain exists, something that takes place in the pokemon world as well.)

mkay, had to bring him up... silver? braces self

I have somewhat mixed feelings on Penny. I really like her character in concept — a smart, blunt, yet ultimately selfless hacker girl, who learns to embrace who she really is and stop distancing herself from others despite the things she blames herself for, should by all means be a character that I would love — but just personally speaking, something about the way she was written ingame never really clicked with me. I still can't put my finger on what it is, but I feel like there was a lot more they could've done with her character, yet the game never ended up exploring that potential to its fullest (though to be honest, that's a gripe I have with a lot of SV's story).
That said, I do think it's great that she's a hardcore Eevee fan, and her battle theme might be one of the best songs in the entire franchise :staryu:

believe it or not, Silver actually held the honor of being my #1 favorite character for a while when I was younger! He's a very unique case; the later rivals that he's usually compared to, while perfectly good in their own right, just have never quite carried the same weight on the plot as he did. He's antagonistic, he's misguided, and while he never quite becomes your friend, he really does want to change. I used to relate a lot to his situation back in the day. Someone please get this kid a hug.

For the sake of fairness I'll put my own favorite rival on the line too lol. Gary?

he's okay. i used to not like him, but he's okay. (sorry if you expected something dramatic)
not to be a presumptuous asshole but i would like to view myself as being responsible for this change in attitude :R:

one of the reasons i love silver so much is because i see a LOT my younger self in him. i wrote an essay on him a bit back that's about four, five pages. no reason, it was just a passion project, i guess. just kinda my thoughts on him, being an abuse survivor myself, and simply how overlooked i feel the more vulnerable aspects of his character are. (and how much i just wanna give him a hug and some damn therapy. on the house, not even kidding.)

uhhh. anyway. gary is the anime's version of blue, so of course i like him, right? right. him having an entourage of cheerleaders is very funny. hes petty and hilarious and i love him for it.

alriiight, my second fav character. n!!

I have nothing against N. I like his design, although I think it's a bit silly. From what I've heard about him, he is a complex and interesting character. I began playing Pokémon White not so long time ago (well, last year, but I still haven't played even half of the game...) and, as I've already said, nothing against N is all I can say... Also, I watched BW anime as a child and I didn't remember N's existence until I got into Pokémon "on a serious level" - it is very well possible I've never seen any episodes with him (I think that part of BW series was left undubbed and never aired here? I'm not sure though... I also think that it was around that time when my parents decided to get rid of our TV? Either way, I'm quite positive I haven't got the chance to watch any main anime episodes with him... yet!)

To sum up, N is a character I still need to get to know better. But from what I know, I do not think I'll end up in this character's personal fan club. However...
...I'd say I'm in this fan club, and I reserve the right to do what almost everyone has done, especially since Milks' response was kind of short:wynaut:

I think Gary is easily the best of Ash's rivals, for the two of them having a believable rival-friend relationship, and also for his rival in being the best Ash's rival is Paul, who is just mean to his Pokémon, which I don't like, not only because I simply don't like it, but also because it creates a contrast between the two of them that feels very cartoony. Gary, on the other hand, cares for his Pokémon, and it is shown in a way that doesn't feel forced, as the first season has good writing in my opinion, which is definitely a bonus for the character, too - I feel like he doesn't get much screentime, yet is it enough for the characterisation being great (btw I'm so in love with the scene when he pets his Doduo in EP065) and I think that him appearing rather rarely has its charm. Also, some people here might already know I tend to be fond of PKMN researcher characters, and Gary becoming one earned him immediate +100 Character-liking points--

I should end this already, right? Ehm, last thing... his EToP counterpart - I liked a sillier version of this character (Oak rivals are all rather serious) and I am a fan of the "a bit oversized gloves" design trope or whatever you call it.

So... a favourite character of mine that wasn't mentioned on this page... hopefully, it is not another rival, right? Right...? Zoey?

I don't have any opinion on Zoey since I didn't watch the DPP season of the anime. But I am aware of the shipping potential she has with Dawn, which sounds cute, not gonna lie.

I'm gonna go with... Giovanni !

Manga and Game Giovanni are great. Manga Giovanni has a lot of interesting interactions in Adventures and even seems to have gone through some positive character development. Game Giovanni even had some interesting appearances in later games like the time travel plot in Heart Gold/Soul Silver and Team Rainbow Rocket in Ultra Sun and Moon. Anime Giovanni is a boring fart of a character who does nothing after Best Wishes besides sit on his chair and bark orders.
