the official competition "terastal crescendo" is going to be held from october 10th-12th! it can be accessed in SV like any other official competition. you can find the full details of the ruleset here, but TLDR; no restricteds except for one REQUIRED miraidon or koraidon. you can bring a full team of 6, but unlike the typical pick 4 format, you can only bring 2 pokemon, and one of them has to be your 'raidon, so it comes down to a matter of supporting your lizard to take out the opposing lizard as fast as possible...

the rewards for this competition aren't crazy but i'm going to be honest, i'm probably going to be playing in it casually just for the bit. because this ruleset is hilarious to me. i just want to play it for fun even if i do terrible. are any of the rest of you going to participate for fun?

i spent tonight theorycrafting a team for it, but there's no real way to practice (nor do i think it's really that high stakes) so it's all just theory... let me know what you think though! and feel free to share if you're also theorycrafting anything LOL

dusclops: general TR mode, frisk is nice in this case, ghost type too
noivern: general TW mode, frisk is nice, draco meteor will 1HKO non-tera 'raidons most of the time
pincurchin: anti-rillaboom/indeedee, liquidation when terastillized and in rain can take out bulkless koraidon lol
brute bonnet: literally just for annihilape final gambit specifically but also nice for koraidon sometimes
mesprit: anti-weezing (both) because of neutralizing gas, another TR mode, ally switch shenanigans, tera dragon bc i think i'll only click tera to live a single flare blitz or electro drift

btw sorry for being behind on the other threads! i've been really busy and exhausted and i want to actually look at everyone's teams and stuff soo

ohh there's a thread for this now yay

here's my team from what my 2am brain can remember (<- can't be bothered to boot up her switch to screenshot it)
Screenshot 2025-09-28 032654.png

The idea is to mostly bring clefairy with miraidon because it can redirect, debuff koraidon's attack + anyone's spdef to keep draco meteor and overheat (? could be protect instead I don't remember) powerful + friend guard and its typing make for great support. special mention to ring target klutz golurk though I love it, it can help miraidon hit fairy and ground types and it also has the perfect typing to be immune to both of the raidons' secondary stabs

I'm not usually one to do online competitions like this but this one is too silly not to participate in. looking forward to it

klutz ring target trick golurk is the most insane thing i've seen today by a mile and i'm obsessed with it. holy shit LOL also nice meowscarada representation. gotta shoehorn in the girl

are you just using parting shot on incineroar to generally get off debuffs? since the switching out effect doesn't apply here. genuine question, that'd be a valid way to use it

-thank you!!! I was just looking at negative items to use with trick and remembered ring target exists and the moment I saw it I knew I had to go for it
-you know I gotta put the cat in. that being said she's mostly here bc I needed filler lol I only put thought in clefairy + golurk + miraidon
-this is also why incin has parting shot. it's true that the switch effect is useless so I'll just pretend like it's here for the debuffs and it was intentional. yup. nothing to see here

i forgot to put in my original post that miraidon/koraidon are locked to always be 31 speed IV, so the lowest speed either of them can achieve with 0 speed EVs and a -speed nature is 309. on the other hand, my timid 252 speed miraidon with room service achieves 306 speed in trick room while still maintaining the benefits of being max speed outside of trick room. i kind of built my whole team heavily thinking about speed control because i want to get out of speed tie situations as much as possible, of which this tournament is practically begging for. the only way my opponent's lizard can outspeed mine in trick room is if they go for a power item as their hold item but the chances of that are very slim i think. i almost went for one until i remembered room service exists, and then i was like wait that's just better cause i get to be max speed and can do tailwind too lol. (noivern has scary face to slow down opposing 'raidons if both sides set up tailwind, and thankfully it even makes scarf 'raidons slower than my non-scarf one)

So my 7am brain was going for a Pallosand build because it was the only ghost-ground type I could think of, but this Golurk literally does it's job better like 100% of the time, galaxy brain klutz ring target omg.

I haven't decided on the last 2 mons, but the idea is that Koraidon Protects first turn, and either Flutter Mane attempts to take out the Raidon, OR depending on the team, Walking Wake takes down the support mon (Meowscarada, Golurk, Baxcalibur etc), and then Koraidon gets to ball and take the second KO. Indeedee is very situational for if Miraidon is the only obvious threat, sets Psychic Terrain, allowing Koraidon to safely Tera Fairy without threat of Electro Drift. It otherwise has pretty standard support moves. This team is kinda cheese, and I don't even know who he last 2 will be, but I think it's an alright first draft.

dfsfjvslmqkcjqdm thank you for the compliment

I should say feel free to use whatever you want in my team lol I'm not copyrighting it or anything. golurk nation rise up

i think it's looking good so far! (also hi, i didn't know you did competitive at all!)
i was considering flutter mane myself, to use against opposing koraidon teams, and i still might swap out a mon for it but i wasn't satisfied with any of the sets i put together. will have to go back to the drawing board perhaps...

in speaking of terastal crescendo, if any of you have any ideas of how to fill some gaps in my team i'd be all ears because i've been doing some test games this morning on showdown (they added it as a practice ladder LOL) and i have discovered the holes in my team

dusclops was not pulling its weight as cool as it sounded in theory (just way too passive) and pincurchin i knew was a meme from the start but yeah i'm not using it at all here. this is the current team, it's the four minus those two with some minor changes:
Miraidon @ Room Service
Ability: Hadron Engine
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
  • Electro Drift
  • Draco Meteor
  • Tera Blast
  • Protect

Noivern @ Focus Sash
Ability: Frisk
Level: 50
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 124 HP / 252 SpA / 132 Spe
Mild Nature
  • Draco Meteor
  • Brick Break
  • Tailwind
  • Taunt

Brute Bonnet @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Protosynthesis
Level: 50
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 132 Def / 124 SpD
Impish Nature
  • Sucker Punch
  • Scary Face
  • Rage Powder
  • Taunt

Mesprit @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
  • Psychic
  • Encore
  • Trick Room
  • Ally Switch
some of the major stuff i have lost to is an opposing miraidon + iron bundle with icy wind team (i had brought noivern that game for some reason but even if i had brought trick room, the damage output of the opponent was pretty harsh and i'm not sure i would have survived with mesprit), grimmsnarl with screens + misty terrain (though this is before i put brick break on noivern), and opposing koraidon with normal raichu with lightning rod

i think what i'm mainly looking for is something to deal better with opposing raichu specifically, and also maybe opposing priority in general? of course i considered farigiraf for the latter, but i'm worried it might have too much overlap with mesprit, who i am actually really enjoying using. oh and i wanted to maybe somehow fit in a way to manually set electric terrain again since you know, pincurchin wasn't cutting it. i was looking at iron valiant and it has so many options for moves i am almost overwhelmed with picking a role for it.

feel free to share any ideas for my last two team members! i just don't want to totally swap out my current team members if i can help it, i really like them lol

first thing that comes to mind for the no priority + dealing with raichu thing is tsareena. its bulk is tolerable enough and it gets queenly majesty so I think if you pack water tera or something to tank koraidon's fire moves you should be fine thanks to grass resisting electric? worth practicing at least. it even gets play rough and triple axel to hit the raidons hard. play rough could even take advantage of the misty terrain if it's set up as counterplay. and also also since koraidon is everywhere you can probably run solar blade

for electric terrain I agree that iron valiant looks to be the way to go. just gotta pin down what it is exactly you would like the rest of its moves to be...

oh wow i totally forgot about tsareena. i will definitely look into it, thank you for the advice!!

and yeah, i really think iron valiant is the way to go but picking moves feels impossible. electric terrain and destiny bond feel locked in for me but as for the other two... uhhhhhh...

I feel like a fairy stab just has to be there, depending on if you need moonblast to one shot all koraidons I'd go with that and if not... idk maybe spirit break...? I'm worried the low power will be an issue. beyond that I'm always partial to knock off especially when there are so few mons; removing half the team's items in one turn is nothing to sneeze at lol

edit: oh wow you need like no investment to dunk on koraidon with moonblast lol. spirit break is prooobably fine for it also though. I doubt many people will waste all their evs on bulk on it this was mostly to see the worst case scenario

So here's what I think I finally landed on...
Screenshot 2025-10-06 091051.png
So I already explained the first 4, and the only changes I made to that was giving Flutter Mane the Clear Amulet. So onto Clefable, this is the Raidon counter, it's immune to dragon, resists Fighting, and is Ground Tera for immunity to Electro Drift, using Follow Me to draw in all said Attacks. Golurk was snatched entirely from @Mialentia as a last minute edition soooo... thanks! I've won a good sum of practice matches with this so I think it's pretty good!

Also
(also hi, i didn't know you did competitive at all!)
Competitive with air quotes "" lol. I do, do competitive sets that have fun gimmicks (like Tera Cres!) but other than that, I do stupid troll, gimmick teams. I made a 6 Sableye team on Showdown and Annoyed the heck of people if that gives you any idea of what I'm like, but I'm fully capable of making competitive teams! (like this one)

it's too bad that we appear to have missed each other on the ladder! i was also practicing earlier lol. that golurk is still iconic and i love your team! i have a huge soft spot for walking wake because i brought it to my first ever (and as of right now, only) real life regionals event

i get you! i like screwing around with off-meta stuff. a while back i made teams for all three of the horizons trio, when they still all had two pokemon each. the idea was that i had to use their two pokemon (fully evolved) and then fill out the rest of the teams with whatever. i had a pretty good success rate, though making meowscarada and hatterene work together alongside terapagos during the one restricted VGC format was uh... something...

i think i finally finished my terastal crescendo team as well! i need to build it in game, still
1759781715918.png
as much as i wanted to use iron valiant, iron bundle with its single point of speed above flutter mane and the 'raidons just made it the most consistent choice. unfortunately the focus sash is taken by my noivern, which i'm very attached to... so i gave it a chople berry - it can click rain dance and then live a close combat + icy wind from life orb koraidon and speed booster flutter mane respectively lol. tera fire helps it against rillaboom. oh and the pelipper is just a very slightly edited default smogon set... see i don't actually want to bring pelipper to games so much as i want opposing koraidon teams to see it during team preview and have that influence their decisions, like feeling pressured to bring a sunny day setter.

the rest of the team got changes here and there too: most notably i got rid of the room service on miraidon as much as i wanted to make it work... i liked the room service because i could have max speed and get the benefits of trick room, but it turns out i actually don't like being max speed so much! modest ensures some KOs with ground tera blast and in general the extra damage output is really nice. why risk max speed speed ties when i can simply use all my speed control options at my disposal? everyone else's smaller changes are prooobably self-explanatory...

in practice it's not like i was winning every game, this format is obviously very volatile and what you both end up picking at team preview matters a lot, but i still was winning a lot of games and i'm feeling good about using this in-game and getting some silly wins for fun

Aye thanks! and aaah if only. Walking Wake and Clefable are hard carrying lol, currently the game plan is:

Clefable Route: Double Protect to scout out a Tera, or an electro drift. And then Flare Blitz a Tera'd Miraidon, or Flutter Mane(or most support mons).
Walking Wake Route: Koraidon Protects, Walking Wake Steam Eruption into Heatran, Golurk, or Skeledirge. Then It and Koraion clean up.

Fooling around with "non-viable" stuff is so fun! Funnily enough I did something similar, but I made the team with Floragato, Hattrem, Crocalor, Kilowattrel, Quaxwell, and Tinkatuff. Liko hadn't caught Pagogo yet so I didn't get that luxury lol. Strangely Crocalor with Eviolite carried and I used Hattrem Focus Sash Healing Wish (wow she even learned that move later) to heal him XD.

Iron Bundle is a menace omg, it keeps beating me. As weird as Pelliper sounds that can definitely mind game someone into picking bad mons, that's actually really smart.
I can relate to the silly wins, some of my replays make me look WAY smarter than I am lol. And then there's my dumb luck wins too XD

lol reminds me of when i was trying to tier to master rank in-game with the six heroes, i gave up around ultra ball because it just wasn’t consistent enough and i was Tired but it was fun!

anyway i can’t take full credit for this, a friend suggested it to me LOL i had been considering it but a friend independently mentioning it pushed me to actually do it

my favorite pokemon to win with so far has been mesprit :bulbaLol: it works purely because of the surprise factor - closed teamsheets and no one knows what it does. so i can usually set up trick room for free even if it could have been ko’d that turn, because people don’t properly target it. and then if the opponent had protected last turn, which is very common on the lizards, well there’s trick room now so mesprit can lock them into protect with encore. it just totally shuts down the game (in my winning favor) LOL
