Well, if any of you are familiar with Spielberg's work, you know he likes to poke fun at Disney. Gremlins, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Jurassic Park -- many of his projects have playful jabs.
I have been racking my brain for Disney allusions in Transformers and while I was in the shower I came up with one (because as we all know our best ideas come up in the shower
).
You have a golden protector who comes out of nowhere and allows himself to become owned by a human family. He is very faithful and gets himself smacked around trying to protect his teenage boy.
Old Yeller, my friends, Old Yeller.
Except without the rabies and death part. (But, in the movie Old Yeller was sliced up by feral pigs and could barely move his back legs -- and BB was smacked around and his legs came off).
Can any of you think of other ones?
