In all the Pokemon games I have, I enter my name which is Jonathan so Jonathan's an eight letter name, but it only accepts names up to seven letters so it calls me "Jonatha"

Thats really annoying has that happend to anyone else?

Well, you can always come up with a shorter nickname?

Japanese version. Five character limit. Raaaaage.

"HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO SPELL A SEVEN-LETTER NAME NOW?! FUCK THIS GAME."

For my name I only need ether five, or six letters.
Five for my real name, or six for Takoto.

My real name is four letters long, and I tend to choose short Japanese names for my player characters, mostly the official ones.

So... um, no, can't say I've encountered that problem.

As someone who has a six-letter name, I never knew the character limit for PC names was only seven characters. Wow. They really should fix that. XP

My name's five letters long, and putting it in katakana still leaves it at five symbols long.

But I share the sentiment. I used to be friends with a girl with eight letters in her name. Not many RPGs'll fit that ; ; Final Fantasy VII and Tactics were champions. (She didn't like her name shortened. But we're not friends anymore, and now she only goes by the shortened version. Hmm...)

Couldn't you use "Jon"?

I mean, that's what I'd use, if I ever used my name in a Pokémon game.

I have six letters in my name. But I never use my real name in game anyways, so it's never a problem.

I have eight letters in my name, but everyone calls me by my nickname and it's three letters. So no, I don't have a problem.

I was really into the book Childhood's End when I started my platinum game, so I wanted to name myself "Karellen." That was too many characters, so I did Karelen. It's kind of stupid, but whatever. It is what it is.

I used the default names until Gen 3, that's when I started using the name Dex. So I never came across this problem.

Using a short awesome-ish name feels good man.

I dont' recall ever having a problem with it. My real name's pretty long, but back with my Yellow I usually used just "Ash" and "Gary" for the names of my player and rival, respectively, so that wasn't much of a problem.

Then, starting from my Crystal onwards to present time, I usually just used my Web nicknames. On Crystal, "Hayabusa" wouldn't fit, so I just translated it to English ("Falcon"). Nowadays, I just go by my current Web nickname, Jima, and my rival's name is Jo, my nickname for my friend, so there's no problem...
