I was looking around on the wiki, and I noticed that in my opinion, the animations for the Pokemon are better in Crystal than the ones in Emerald. Take a look:

This animation for Quagsire is decent because it's doing something that a real Quagsire would likely do. Though it's not much in the way of doing anything (wow, it opens is mouth!), it works well.

Take a look at Emerald's Quagsire animation:

What is this? It just stretches itself out! So creative Game Freak! Did I mention the pixelation too? That's professional-looking. It took you all of what? 2 minutes to make?

Not all of the Emerald animations are this crappy, like the one for Pikachu for example. It only flashes with electricity, but at least it's somewhat "realistic" (considering that it is a fictional creature in the fictional world of a video game.)

Did someone forget we already are 3 years into a new generation or is it my imagination? But yeah what can we do emerald and all of the 3rd gen was fail so I excuse it.

And how exactly do you think so? Platinum had major changes and one of them were improved backsprites. I hope they stay the same for any future game.

i completely agree, that crystal quagsire animation is so cool, the way he moves his hands is really funny haha, the emerald animation sucks, it just stands up, gets fatter, then stands on one leg haha :p

Actually I liked the third generation's original game's scenery more than any other generation. Mossdeep and Sootopolis were awesome. But yeah, the Quagsire from Emerald made me LOL.

what

GenIII was not fail. D: Though I do agree, some of Emerald's animations are kinda :|... but that's not enough to say that the entire generation failed. >_>

Gen 3 DID fail.
Think about it.

Gen 2 carried on Gen 1's story, nd u got to vs Red at the end. Gen3 completely screwed over the continuation.

Exactly, I liked practically all Gen III pokemon. One thing I did like about Gen III games was the move animations, like the pinkish wavy background when using a psychic move or ice beam looked neat as did some other ice attacks like blizzard.

Anyway, storywise it was a little of a letdown, not enough story IMO for R/S/E, sevii in FR/LG was a nice addition, even though it was limited on what you could do there and no berry planting, not even for berries you use in battle. Overall, I liked Gen III.

Yes and no. Gen II had a different timeline than Gen III, Gen I and III had same timelines, FR/LG shows that. So thats why the contuining storyline did not happen. Plus Gen II happened at a different time than Gen I, it happened at same time as Gen IV.

And so? There wasn't really a story in the first place. The plots for Pokemon games have always been pretty... flat. And that's not really a reason why to say it sucks in the first place- who says that supposedly 'breaking a story' automatically makes it suck? A change once in a while's nice, but I don't think anyone else agrees with me on that. But whatever, I'm gonna stop arguing since it's a little off-topic.

also in before "gamefreaks is running out of ideas".

Not the Pokemon I love the Pokemon. I mean in general with all the surfing and the storyline. The graphics as well were just bah. And the cities and such. Rustboro? Mossdeep?

I didn't like 3rd gens story either but coming from me it isn't saying much. I can't stand main Pokemon game storylines because they always feel boring and generic or just plain lame. Doesn't matter what gen it is either.

I'd rather play a different game for storyline.

I play Pokemon to collect and raise Pokemon. I play to explore the region. I play to battle friends and trading.

As for animation I agree that they could have done alot better than what they did but what can you do.

At least battle fronteir was fun and so was exploring the region for me.

hmm.... I did like the old sprite animations from crystal(except the blinking ._. ...)

but some of the animations are rather.... better that the old ones. For example,

(lol wiggle wiggle)

(no more wiggle wiggle... just lazy moving)

I call that crotch thrusting for crystal and uh crazy dancing for emerald. Wait don't DPPt have such animations?

I don't see the big deal with animations. Having them are nice, but it's not going to kill the gameplay if a pokemon just slides around instead of moving naturally. I'm happy enough with the improvements in the actual in battle sprites themselves throughout the games. Look at Golbat from Red and Blue for example-

and now D/P-

I can always skip over the battle animations, as long as the art itself is improved over time. (which it has in most cases.)

(And Gen. III was good. To me there's no such thing as a "good" genration or a "failure/crappy" generation because it's all opinion. One person's favorite Generation is the next person's most hated. /offtopic.)

So? I find the coloring great. Except for Octillery. He is ugly. But whats wrong with it? If they want to darken him great their choice. If the sprites ruin it for you don't play.

Speaking of art being improved over time, what do you make of this?

From DP to Pt, Quagsire has gotten a whole lot darker!

Which is why I said " in most cases" not all. But at this point it's more preference than anything, some people might like the darker one better or not.

I guess you can't please everybody. The crystal Quagsire did lokk better than any other Quagsire sprite I've seen.

I'm not sure which I like between DP and Pt. They're both ugly

Graphics don't matter too much in video games. Some think so, but the graphic is just there to make the game look nice. If the game itself stinks, then better graphic won't help it.

I just think it's weird that it got a whole lot darker from DP to Pt. It's fine on its own, but comparing to its predecessors, it looks odd. It definitely doesn't ruin the game for me. I didn't really like the Bulbasaur sprite in RSE either, but I didn't let that get in the way of me enjoying the games.

On the subject of Gen III (even if it is off-topic), Gen II will always be my favorite generation because Pokemon Gold was my first Pokemon game. Gen III was actually pretty decent, looking back though. The towns were very creative and interesting, especially Mossdeep, Sootopolis, that one with the weird name (the one where everything is floating on logs) and the town on top of the trees. There are some other small things about RSE that I liked, including Kyogre (one of my favorite legendaries), the power plant you had to surf to, the surfing puzzle to get unlock the Regis and then traveling to their remote locations, the sign which said something like "Team Aqua rocks!" and the secret bases.

Don't even get me started on FRLG. Awesome! :D

EDIT: Pacifidlog Town and Fortree City.
