Hello everyone! I am trying to come up with better ideas for my Pokemon fanfiction that I never finished. The made up region is called Auranova. I have some basic ideas but I would love some input!

Was initially confused about where those ideas were, but I see there was another thread about it. I think areas of the United States are always ripe as a location, my own region is based on the western USA so I can attest to the appeal. Personally, when it comes to creation I think questions on the greater world should be answered first. What Pokémon canon is the world using? Manga, anime, games, reboot films, a mix of all? There's also WHEN you want your story to take place. Example being that the technology presented in 90s content was futuristic, but it's an older idea of futuristic. Like, Ash doesn't walk around with a phone. While nowadays the games basically give you Pokedex ipads to carry and use. Timelines are always stressful to work on though, so I get not wanting to immediately focus on that. But I'd also suggest thinking on how the region fits into the greater Pokémon world. Unova is inspired by an area of the United States too, New York state mostly (Though I'd argue it's a really bad take on it). So are the regions related somehow, or neighbors? I know Pokémon itself tends to keep this stuff pretty vague but I think that makes it perfect for expansion.

I was also thinking about there could be travel between dimensions; there would be Auranova, and they could travel to the real USA
Maybe, although I don't know how much of a focus there should be on that. I think the idea of traveling between similar timelines is much more compelling as Pokémon is already canonically an AU series where every game is its own reality, and Team Rainbow Rocket exists and whatnot. With traveling to Earth you'd have the task of explaining Earth to an audience (Us) who already lives there, which might not come off as super noteworthy. And if you don't explain it then it seems like the characters know too much about a reality they aren't even from.
