"The Batman vs. Dracula" Direct-to-Video Movie

I've never been a huge fan of The Batman (the writing in some of the earlier episodes was atrocious, but it's gotten better), but this release has me interested. According to the spoiler-free review on the link I just posted, the movie's actually very dark and bloody, despite being based on a kids' show. Huh.

It's coming out on DVD on October 18th and will be aired on Cartoon Network on the 22nd.

There's an alt. reality tale about Batman being a vampire, and I BELIEVE there was a Batman VS Dracula comic (there's a Batman VS Predator comic, so why not?).

But it's nice to see a dark Batman cartoon for once. Even the old series was rather light, and matched the silver age Batman more than the modern age version. Granted, neither are as violent as the gun-toting, criminal-killing, golden age Batman. But The Batman VS Dracula may actually work to redeem an otherwise...ummm..."unique" interpretation of the Dark Knight. And hey...it can't possibly be as bad as Batman and Robin or whatever the third movie was called.

"Batman and Robin" was the name of the fourth movie, actually. The third one was called "Batman Forever" and featured Two-Face and the Riddler.

At the moment, my favorite Batman movie is the Batman Beyond "Return of the Joker" DTV (the uncut version, that is). I doubt this Batman vs. Dracula movie could bump ROTJ out of my number one spot, but it could come close if it's as dark as everyone says.

Ah...Batman Forever and Batman and Robin...such good flicks...Garbage is fun.

The Batman...isn't very interesting, in my view. It's no one thing....it's just...not very interesting...

The Batman has a lot of flaws, but it has a lot of great things going for it as well. I think the problem that so many people have with the show is that they're comparing it to BTAS, which is an unfair comparison to make.

I guess I can come up with one reason why I don't like it: it's rather vapid compared to ANY other Batman cartoon.

That said...I did rather enjoy Batman Beyond.

Well, they showed it on Cartoon Network tonight, and I'm thoroughly convinced that "The Batman" is the "Batman and Robin" of all Batman TV shows. You can add blood, but it don't change a bad story.

I saw the movie, and it wasn't even all that bloody. I mean sure, it's better than other kids' shows' interpretations of the legend (the censors didn't get in the way and force Dracula to do something like "absorb plasma through his hands," like on Fox Kids' Spider-Man cartoon), but it's still far from being this adult movie that all these DCAU fanatics claim it is.

Though I wouldn't go so far as to call it the "Batman and Robin" of all Batman TV shows, especially when there's only been like...three animated Batman shows (Batman TAS, Batman Beyond, and The Batman). Honestly, The Batman isn't that bad.

I REALLY gave The Batman a shot when it first aired. I WANTED to like it. I TRULY did. I had ALL the faith in the world in it. And...it hurts to watch it now. And I'm not even a big Batman fan. Joker's nowhere NEAR as violent as he needs to be, Penguin's around WAY too much, Riddler looks and sounds annoying as hell, Mr. Freeze's origin was SERIOUSLY screwed up, Clayface's was as well, and Catwoman just...wasn't right. But it can all be remedied if they would just have Bat-Mite in ONE episode. I'm STILL waiting for him to show up in a movie.

Argh, when will people understand that "different" does NOT necessarily equal "screwed up"? Taken on its own, there was nothing wrong whatsoever with Mr. Freeze's retold origin from The Batman.

Not from where I was standing. I was fine with the Joker being screwed up, and the overuse of Penguin. Even Catwoman's costume wasn't THAT bad, but they took Mr. Freeze from being a deep, well-developed character into another cookie-cutter bad guy with a cookie-cutter origin.
