I just found this book at my local Borders store.

I haven't got a chance to buy it yet, but I will (I usually buy Pokemon manga just for collecting purposes).

I normally don't read Pokemon manga, but I thought I'd give this one a shot since it seemed pretty short. I'm not much of a reader, lol.

Anyway, I skimmed through the first chapter or so, and it seemed very interesting.

They're okay, but I really prefer The Electric Tale of Pikachu. I'm also sure that they're out of order in this book.

The storyline is great if read in the correct order.

But this particular graphic novel sucks big time. It's clear whoever put this together has no idea how to make a proper compliation.

I saw that volume at a local Borders too, Lisa. I was surprised by how small it was compared to the volume that Yellow first appears that I have. I was also confused why they had already gotten to Yellow since they just started reprinting Pokemon Adventures in The Best of Pokemon Adventures series just this fall. I looked it up and this Yellow volume is only the second one while I believe it was originally the fourth. I agree with Lil Brother on how the storyline is great if its followed in the correct order. Based on their covers, I guess that they started with Red in the first volume and then jumped off into Yellow. Not a very good idea on their part.

That's too bad really. I was hoping that I could get the last couple of Yellow volumes. I only have the first four. My best bet now would probably ebay or the ebay store. The one website that ships out the manga doesn't let me order for some reason.

The Yellow saga is only four volumes. :P

As for what the Best Of books are... basically they're just little collection books. Red is the first couple of chapters of Adventures, the last couple chapters of the RBG saga, and a few other chapters in-between. Yellow is similar, but... very crappily put together. Halfway through you just randomly jump to the end and you end up royally confused.

If Viz wants to use Pokémon Adventures, I don't see why they just didn't reprint the first seven Pokémon Adventures volumes instead of making crap-quality collections.

Oh, in my mind, I placed the start of the Yellow saga as the fourth volume since it still dealt with most of the original characters from the RBG saga. My mistake. So that's what the Best of Pokemon Adventures are. I thought that they looked too small to hold all of the chapters. That would explain how I was originally confused on how they got to Yellow's stories so quickly. I originally thought that Viz were planning to reprint the first seven volumes. That's too bad that they went a completely different route.

...huh?

Red/Green/Blue arc: Volumes 1-3
Yellow arc: Volumes 4-7

Sorry if I confused you, but it looks like you were right. :P

I thought you meant you had the first four Yellow volumes (4-7) and you thought there was more to the saga. Reading it again, it seems you meant you had the first four volumes of Adventures/Special and were looking for 5-7, is that right?

Yep, that's what I meant. Sorry if it sounded confusing in my last reply. Its okay that I got a bit confused. Yes, I meant that I have the first four volume of the Adventures and I am looking for the rest of the Yellow saga, as well as the other sagas of the manga. Luckily, I know where I can order them.

To test the waters. The series didn't work out during its first go-around (1999? 2000?), so Viz is understandably skeptic about releasing the series that's already failed once before. In fact, I think the only reason they're even bothering with it now is because a) the manga scene in America is much healthier than it was all those years ago, so Viz is more able to absorb any potential losses than they were before, and b) because PUSA probably pressured them to release something for the franchise's 10th anniversary.

This is, realistically, probably the last shot Viz will give to Pokemon Adventures...if it fails again, Viz will probably write off Pokemon manga as being unprofitable and will cease production again.
