Hey, if anyone who sleeps near darkrai gets nightmares, then if darkrai sleeps shouldnt he give himself nightmares? or does he sleep at all? this is confusing!:-/

Poison frogs don't die from the poison on their own skin. For those who don't seem to understand metaphors, Darkrai's own ability wouldn't affect itself.

However, in the games, the Bad Dreams ability of other Darkrais can affect each other.

Perhaps the probability of getting a nightmare from Darkrai is proportional to the probability of an electron in a 1s orbital being at any given radius from the nucleus at a given time? That we he can't get nightmares, and the closer you are to him, the more likely. Yay, wave function!

...Or he's just immune like the poison dart frog idea. Or he doesn't sleep.

Darkrai isn't affected by it's own ability end of story plkus it sleepd during the day and comes out at night it's nocturnal :)

okay, the electron thing makes it even more confusing. what does probability have to do with nightmares? and I have no idea what you said. I'm not some college dude. and its not like his nightmares are poison that he cant control. I guess he just turns it on when other people are sleeping, and automaticaly turns it off when he sleeps. just a guess.

But then that would imply that there is a time of day where you can sleep near it without getting nightmares, and naturally the people of Canalave would adapt a rhythm where they sleep at the same time as Darkrai.

I just drew the electron cloud parallel in my mind and decided to post it to be silly. Ignore it. The real explanation I believe is that he's simply not affected by his own ability.

His nightmare projection is a defense mechanism that's probably only active when it's threatened. He may have the ability to willingly control it.

Most likely though, Darkrai is also immune to the effects if it's own ability.

Darkrai is awesome because it can cause nightmares and it's invulnerable to nightmares

I think we all know he's awesome. but, you dont really answer my question. even though its already been answered, in a way.

Not really, its ability doesn't protect it from the Nightmare abilities of other Darkrai, or the move Nightmare itself.

It just keeps its own power from backfiring.

or, ooorrr, he's used to his nightmares and other nightmares scare him! like how in mstry dungeon azurils nightmare is a dungeon, darkrai could be used to the one he creates.

I figure the Darkrai can turn the ability on and off at will. Using it only when in battle.

Platinum NDex entry. Important part in bold. said:
To protect itself, it afflicts those around it with nightmares. However, it means no harm.

We can assume the dex entries are canon therefore Darkrai cause choose when to inflict Bad Dreams.

If it couldn't then it would screw my story up ... but that another matter.
