100% totally and completely against. The state should not have the ability to arbitrarily decide who lives and who dies.
I agree (yet you'll give that to the ordinary person but this isn't the place)100% totally and completely against. The state should not have the ability to arbitrarily decide who lives and who dies.
Rotting in jail for the rest of a person's life imo is a much tougher punishment.I disagree. If someone has done a completely heinous crime, like say, that of Jack the Ripper, would you let them live to do it again another day?
I

The point is not whether they deserve to live, the point is that I don't have the right to make that decision, and neither does the state.
So? Just because there is a tiny chance of their escape does that mean that their life should be taken? I don't think so, there's a thing called Solitary Confinement I think it's a better solution and is much better punishment than just dying. No jail is escapeproof. Those crooks' escape from the "inescapable" Alcatraz taught us that much.
Punishment doesn't mean that there needs to be a death involved! That's what the state is for- to protect its people, and punish them if need be.
Wonderful, just make prison a much harder thing to do and they will stop filling up, in the UK they've gto TV's and Mobile Phones in the damn Prisons, just make it a terrible place to be and that will not only keep people out but also, save taxpayers money.Yea and there's only so much jail/prison space. Plus tax payers are already paying for many new prisons, which are already filling at an alarming rate.

Jabber:Sometimes, it's a better option to kill the perp.
Punishment doesn't mean that there needs to be a death involved!
Jabber:Sometimes there does. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a death for a death.

Jabber:It's human nature to sin. Just making prisons more brutal won't stomp out crime.
No, no there is never that time.Sometimes, it's a better option to kill the perp.
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" - Gandhi.Sometimes there does. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a death for a death.
No such thing as sin sweetcheeks. It's human nature to sin. Just making prisons more brutal won't stomp out crime.

Jabber:Yes, there is.
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" - Gandhi.
But if you're killing someone then what's the difference between you and the murderer?
Jabber:The DIFFERENCE, is the perp murdered to get satisfaction, for glee. I would kill so that he wouldn't kill again.
No such thing as sin sweetcheeks.
Jabber:Yes, there is. It's synonymous with "crime" or "felony" or "wrongdoing."
!
Care to share with the class why or are you going for the mysterious approach?I totally disagree with this.
Against. It's revenge, state-sanctioned revenge.
When you hear the families of the murder victims on the news calling for the death penalty for the murderer, it's never "because the jails are overcrowded" or "because it serves as a deterrent". It's always "I want them to be put down like the dog they are" or something similar.
That's how I decided it was wrong.
Hear, hear.People who are against the death penalty should be forced to pay for the increasing number of prisons then.
An example please?Yes, there is.
Hon, you're still killing someone, samey= samey. The DIFFERENCE, is the perp murdered to get satisfaction, for glee. I would kill so that he wouldn't kill again.
Sin = Religion, we don't need to get into that hear *creates thread*Yes, there is. It's synonymous with "crime" or "felony" or "wrongdoing."
