~Tails of Knighthood~

~ PROLOGUE ~

The knight ran off, at great speed, shaken by what he had just encountered, and hurriedly formulated a plan. In spite of the odds, he felt that it was his duty to do something about it. The only thing he could think to do was consult Lady Merlina, so he changed his path, and made for where he was sure she would be, thinking through exactly what he would say.

The lady in question turned towards the knight that ran up to her, and asked, “Sir Safir! What is the matter?”

Safir dropped to one knee.
"Lady Merlina! Something awful has happened; the other Round Table Knights have been afflicted by some kind of witchcraft, and refuse to listen to reason! It seems as though some outside source is controlling their minds!"

“That's horrible! Have you determined the cause?”

"I cannot identify it, though it seems clear to me that it is some kind of black magic. This must have happened during my recent absence, for which I feel I must now apologise."

“And King Sonic has left us during our darkest hour... It seems the time has come to summon a new hero.”

“It is nothing, Safir. I am merely doing what is required of me.” She struck the ground with her staff, creating a magic rune, and began to recite a spell. “Ifaras zaras yezaras... Ifaris zaris yezarik... O brave knight, strong as the flames! Heed my call!” A blue light shot up from the rune, creating a portal in the sky.

Wes and Jade were sitting under a tree, reading from a book he'd found on his shelf. Although Wes had only changed into his t-shirt from three months ago, Jade was now wearing a red jacket with rolled up sleeves over a green tank-top, jeans, and cyan eye shadow, since Wes had said it made her look more attractive. “...'O brave knight, strong as the flames! Heed my call!' Huh! Interesting story, huh, Jade?”
She smiled, “You said it, Wes. Wonder what happens after this?” Her question was answered when a blue portal opened beneath them, making them fall into another world...

Safir watched Merlina work her magic, and rose to his full height as the supposed hero arrived in this world. Wait...
"Lady Merlina, am I mistaken, or are there two here, and not just one?"

“Is that so? My mistake.” Wes landed on his back, while Jade landed on his stomach. Finally, the book bounced off his head, giving him a dazed state. Jade sat up, and asked, “Wes, where are we?” Unfortunately, Wes was too dazed to respond.

Safir poked Wes with the hilt of his sword.
"Are you quite sure the incantation was the right one, Lady Merlina?"

“I am sure. It has worked before, so it must've worked again.” Wes shook his head, ridding himself of his dazed state. He looked at Merlina, and asked, “Who are you?”
She apologized, “Please forgive my abrupt summons. I am Lady Merlina, and I have summoned you for a reason.”

"A critically important reason," Safir added. "For the fate of the kingdom, no less."

Wes asked, “Oh really? Mind telling me what it is?”

"Indeed. The entirety of the Round Table has been subjected to some form of mind-controlling magic, causing them to behave not just untowardly, but in a downright evil way. Even my own brothers have been afflicted!"

“Sounds like trouble. I'll be glad to help!” They stood up, and Jade asked, “Say, where are we, anyway?”
Merlina answered, “You are in Camelot, the kingdom of King Sonic. Or, at least, that's what I'd like to say. He left us, saying he had to return from whence he came.”

"At the most inopportune of times, as well. In spite of that, he still makes a better King than Camelot's former one."

“Really? Lemme see...” He tried to recall who Camelot's king used to be, before Jade spoke up. “Wasn't Arthur the king of Camelot?”

"Indeed he was, and he was a just ruler, for a while," Safir confirmed. "But once he was granted the scabbard of Excalibur, he grew twisted and corrupted, which is when our present King, the self-appointed Knight of the Wind, killed and usurped him, then departed the kingdom."

“I see.” Wes thought, Sonic is Camelot's current king? Hmm... He asked, “Well, got any idea where we should head first?”
