Comic Book Resources has been doing a, more or less, weekly column called X-Positions where they interview X-editor Axel Alonso on events revolving around the Endangered Species event (and the upcoming Messiah Complex event). A truly interesting comment was made in this week's:

8) Will any X-Books be ending post-crossover?

Yes.

Seems like an interesting thing to start a thread about. So...which X-book (or books) is/are ending?

Uncanny? It's got that staying factor, but it HAS been around for a while. And while they have one of their bigger writers on board, it HAS seemed like it was winding down, with various cast members being exiled to various places.

Adjectiveless X-Men? It DID just hit 200, and there's lots of future plans, but...that could be a misdirect.

Astonishing? We're supposed to get the post-Whedon/Cassaday team at San Diego, but...maybe we're getting different news instead.

New Excalibur? Doesn't seem to connect to the rest of the Marvel Universe, and I don't think I've ever heard much praise for the book (though I love it).

X-Factor? Peter David IS picking up She-Hulk after Slott leaves. Maybe they're shifting him over.

New X-Men? The team's gotta grow up at some point, and they HAVE been rather coy about naming a permanent artist to the book. Maybe there's a reason for that.

Cable and Deadpool? EASILY the most likely. Lackluster sales. Cable's on another book. Deadpool's...around. Ending it would make sense.

Or maybe it's one of the non-conventional X-books? Exiles? Wolverine (yeah, right)? Wolverine: Origin?

There's no way Uncanny's kicking the bucket. That would suck, if only for the "it's been around forever" thing.

I could easily see Astonishing being canceled after Whendon and Cassaday finish up and then replaced with a new ongoing.

But Wolverine: Origins is by far the most hopeful choice, if only because it's an awful, awful book in every way.

I'd actually forgotten Astonishing was still around. I picked up the first two collections and they were pretty good (though I haven't read 616 X-men in years, and even then I never read it properly, so I didn't really know what the hell was going on with the backstory), but a year and a half later there wasn't even any word on the third book. I do keep meaning to check up and ask but meh.
