Alright, we all know straight up front that the battle was obviously slanted in May's favor. And i have a sensible reason for that.

And that is that the writers didn't know what to do with Brock if he had a ribbon. There are many great possibilities that could've been taken advantage of here; for example, why not have Brock running up to each girl and bragging about his "contest skills".

Maybe he could bring it home and we could get a comical relief episode about Brock's mom(whose name i forgot and am pretty sure it was never mentioned) trying to steal the ribbon.
Brock could even agree, if in return he had his mom take down all the ridiculous water pokemon equipment and maybe build a pool. Although i'm not a brock fanatic, i'm sure people who are would love to see Brock's gym become a gym for rock types only again.

Lastly, they couldv'e had Brock win, and give the ribbon to May, saying "she needs it more than i do", because even though it would still be May getting the ribbon in the end, what matters is that we finally get to see Brock win something important and get to see that god-modded eevee beaten to a pulp.
And in the end, thats all that matters.

Break up your paragraphs, try not to start sentences with "And," make a point that makes sense, and try not to claim there are "thousands" of great possibilities next time. Fair warning: you're going to be flamed to a crisp real soon.

I remember calling before this ep aired that the writers would probably have May win because she was the female lead and Brock was a sidekick. There is also the problem of Brock entering a Contest and upstaging May (a character who has been doing Contests around 10 times prior), and that would never happen.

If Brock ever goes against Dawn in a Contest, I'd expect him to lose against her too, simply because Dawn is the female lead and main coordinator.

They could have definitely handled the battle a little better but complaining about it now is pointless.

For once I agree with Scott, there's not a lot of point in continually banging on about this now. Even though it was the cheapest win in the entire series.

No, that darn Chatot defeating the Incredible Levitating Electrode was the biggest injustice in the show!

Atleast Marshtomp put up a decent fight, and used it's fin cleverly...that was like, his only major fight? Besides the end, I didn't see anything too insanely crazy about it...standard "baby Pokemon wins!", just like the good ol' Kanto days.

It was obvious that May was going to win the ribbon. Not because Brock is a "mere sidekick" but because she is the one who needs the ribbon and she had already lost a recent contest. The writers always know who the victor of an important battle will be before they write it.

However, that doesn't change the fact that they could have written it better. The main problem is probably that they were using their usual techniques for opponents on a main character.

what's with you guys? "God-modded", "cheapest win"? Compared to that fucking turtle of her's, Eievui was nothing (not only that, but it fucking redeems itself for whatever cheapness it did by barely getting any showcase at all afterwards, which is again the exact opposite of Zenigame... though, to be fair, while most people have called bullshit on Harley's loss in the Kantou Grande Festibal, my sole complaint about that battle is Eievui being able to propel Gonbe off of its tail). Just like Eneko (who also receives a lot of hate), it actually had a very good set-up that was only hampered by pisspoor writing once it came down to its debut battle. Sure, it got Shadow Ball and Dig (both TM moves, which are usually learned through difficult alternate methods in the anime since TMs themselves don't seem to exist), but Shadow Ball may've been learned off-screen, and if nothing else, it could've inherited those moves (we don't know where that egg came from... Zenigame, being a starter, should logically have had its lineage in-check). It's also not as if Dig was the main factor in determining the outcome of its battle (like Ice Beam -_-), in fact, it was only hampering due to Numacraw's ability to detect Eievui underground.

Watching the battle, I'd have to say that Brock had the upperhand for almost the entire match, and consistently beat down Eevee. I know that May had to win the ribbon, but with the way the battle was played out, I'm still not sure how she managed to beat Brock - in a normal Contest battle, she would have been destroyed, and Eevee knocked out.

The real question is how Ash managed to bribe a thunder god for his Mossdeep Gym battle.
