The Fake Rising Volt Tacklers Appear?! - Pokémon Horizons Episode 138 Review - We've Found You, Fakers!

Whenever a type of media brings in the topic of doppelgängers or fake versions of the protagonist group, it’s usually treated negatively in a way. I think this latest episode of Pokémon Horizons might be one of the rare times where the topic of fakes is seen in a positive light, and I actually enjoyed that! This was surprisingly wholesome and cute!

I like that the Rising Volt Tacklers’ efforts have caused them to have fans like the family featured in this episode. The family became big fans of the group after the son saw their efforts on television, and that’s how the family's cosplay began—that's right, the doppelgängers this time are just cosplayers. I liked that the cosplay choices weren’t the stereotypical ones either. For example, instead of the Dad cosplaying as Roy, he cosplays as Dot and his son cosplays as Roy. The baby's cosplay as Ult’s Sableye was honestly the cutest thing I’ve seen by far. The way the group inspired a family to go on an adventure is wholesome—they’re like an RV life family.

On top of that, the family are like the Winstrate Family, but instead of battling in separate 1 vs. 1 battles, they’re all part of a 4 vs. 4 Multi Battle. Yes, you heard me. 4 vs 4—the baby is also a participant as they have a Pichu! I’m honestly impressed that the family members are no slouches in battles. Their strategy with launching Beanie, the Pikachu, was honestly creative. The baby’s Pichu is no slouch either as it caught Quaquaval off guard and gave him a hard time with disruptive moves like Charm and Encore. The twist that the parents used to be Elite Trainers who can use Mega Evolution was honestly nice. I liked that the Mega Raichu were able to debut this way without being seen as a joke. The fact that they can give Liko and the others a run for their money was also really nice! The gang had to strategize a lot for this battle, and it paid off when Dot planned out their tactics!

I just hope that no one will take this episode poorly. It’s just a cute episode that introduces the power of the Mega Raichu! By the way, Beanie, the son’s Pikachu, is voiced by Fumiko Takekuma, who voiced Sophocles in the Sun & Moon anime! Though, it’s not the first time she returned to Horizons as she voiced a Krookodile back in episode 37. With the mysterious Ditto boarding the airship, I do wonder what sort of shenanigans it will get up to. Let me know your thoughts on this episode!

Honestly not surprised that people are once again getting salty about the Skrulls of Liko and Dot getting Mega Evolution before the real ones. Hopefully they'll work it in with a return to Lumiose they're suggesting.
