This is a fan-made one shot story that is not meant to coexist with any story both official or also fan-made.

It happened in the summer. A great inferno in the vast forest nestled between Mahogany Town and the Lake of Rage. The cause of the fire was unknown, but those who gazed upon it's power knew it had to be contained. The Mahogany Town Gym Leader Pryce was the first to arrive, his Ice-type Pokemon did their best to slow the blaze's advance, but ice always falls to fire in both life and Pokemon.

Within hours of the forest's ignition, Pokemon Ranger squads were on the scene to evacuate any Pokemon they could. However, even they had to retreat as the heat forced them from getting deeper into the forest. Soon, Mahogany Town's destination was getting closer and closer to the fire, but reinforcements from the most unlikely places were on their way.

Everyday Pokemon-trainers equipped with Water-types flooded Mahogany Town and got as close to the advancing inferno as they could and drowned out the fire in a torrent of water. Though their combined might proved helpful, they would also be met with failure. But they would not give up and their morale would be increased ten-fold with the arrival of powerful Gym Leaders and members of the former and and current Elite Four.

Brock, the Gym Leader from Pewter City, Misty, the Gym Leader from Cerulean City, Claire, the Gym Leader from Blackthorn City made up the batch of Gym Leaders who could assist in containing the blaze. Lorelei, a former member of the Elite Four in Kanto, was joined by current Kanto/Johto Elite Four members Will, Bruno, and Lance. Combined, they were an almost unstoppable wall blocking the ever-consuming inferno.

But the blaze still ravaged the forest in spite of the courageous coalition of Trainers, Rangers, Gym Leasers, and members of the Elite Four. Even the Gyarados in the Lake of Rage did their best to tame the wild fire, but it wasn't enough. The tide turned when the Champion of Johto emerged on the scene on his legendary Suicune, embodiment of the Northern winds and master of water. With one final push, the fire was extinguished.

The damage was done. The old forest that flourished with life, was now ash, gray, choking ash. Nothing survived, no plant, no tree, no Pokemon. Even the mighty Lake of Rage lay stagnant and gray, the once thrashing water lay flat and motionless. Mahogany Town was saved, but the earth behind it lay thoroughly scarred.

Tears streamed from the faces of all who looked upon the barren wasteland, Trainers, Gym Leaders, the pain of loss was felt universally in their hearts. Johto had not witnessed such a disaster since the Brass Tower burned long ago. To give peace over the area, Ghost-type masters Agatha, another former member of the Elite Four, and the Ecruteak City Gym Leader Morty descended on ash and delivered the spirits of the fallen Pokemon to their final resting place. It was even rumored that a mysterious figure only identified with a red hat gazed at the destruction, but vanished as soon as he was spotted. Some locals even say Ho-oh, the guardian of the sky, flew over the forest, but most remain skeptical.

I myself felt the need to go to the Burned Forest, as it is now called. As for why, I don't know, I was just called to it. When the fire first broke out, I was on my way to Indigo Plateau to face the Elite Four like so many before me, but my journey was halted by the inferno.

So now I stand in the center of the Burned Forest, gazing at the scenery of death. Ash covers my feet and it is hard to breath without dust filling my lungs. I turned back towards Mahogany Town, when I saw something, something green in the sea of black and gray. It was a spoutling rising up from the ash, perhaps a future tree. I touched it's fragile form and I could feel the life coursing through it's veins. Was this why I was called here? To see life overcoming death? Maybe.

A nice description of events. Just one puny but maddening error (because it's so puny):

But they would not give up and their moral would be increased ten-fold with the arrival of powerful Gym Leaders and members of the former and and current Elite Four.

You mean "morale".
