There was a commercial made to introduce Nintendo gamers to Pokemon as it was about to hit US shores. Youtube removed some of it but I saw it all and believe me, it was just laughable. If you thought DiC's Sailor Moon commercial was overblown to get the series to sell, then here's the runner-up.

Has anyone else seen it? Did you find it hilarious or just plain bad? I'd post it in the Anime section but this video's about Pokemon overall so... yeah.
 
Are you talking about that VHS tape they mailed out to Nintendo Power subscribers? I still got mine. It was hilariously cheesy.

Exactly! If you replaced the dialogue with "Buy our stuff," you'd never know what was suppose to be say originally. The whole mindset of the video is "Kids will eat this up like free candy and we'll be rich!" And with these forums as proof, it worked.
 
Hm, just how cheesy are we talking? D: I've seen the ancient first Sailor Moon trailer, and that was horrible. Could a Pokemon one truly be worse? Time to search YouTube...
 
I watched it too. It is pretty laughable by today's standards. I guess the whole gimmicky thing is what makes this commercial dated.
 
Oh good lord, the amount of cheesiness in the video is laughable. Surprisingly, though, it worked. Look where we are today.
