The highly loved and highly hated cartoon and anime dubbing company is hardly heard about these days amongst Pokemon fans.It used to dub the English version of Pokemon from 1998 to 2006. But nowadays, we don't get a hoot of what it is up to. New figures have been posted on the wikipedia article....:

....showing that the company has been at a net loss ever since giving up Pokemon in 2006.
I'd like everyone to discuss if 4 kids entertainment is about to die and/or can it pull itself back together?
In fact I'm confused if they are even dubbing anime at all.

No matter what your feelings are to them, do discuss what these guys are up to nowadays and what they'll be doing in the near and distant future.

(most importantly, will they be in anime?)

Re: The Future of 4 kids Entertainment

I thought they gave up ALL anime when they stopped Pokémon.

I think that you have that confused with Kids WB, when Pokémon left Kids WB, the network decided to not air anime anymore.

4Kids still does anime just not as many as they did at one time.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's and Dinosaur King are the only two animes that 4Kids is doing at the moment.

Re: The Future of 4 kids Entertainment

Even if they stop doing animation, they still have their claws in other non-Tv brands. They might do okay.

Re: The Future of 4 kids Entertainment

Dinosaur King is a suprisingly good dub. They left some stuff from the Japanese version intact.

Yu-Gi-Oh is still the worst anime ever. 4kids made it worse.

Re: The Future of 4 kids Entertainment

I would think Yu-Gi-Oh would at least make them some bank to keep them afloat, but eh, that's just wishful thinking.

Re: The Future of 4 kids Entertainment

One word: KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

Achmed would call Al Khan "YOU RACIST BASTARD!"

Re: The Future of 4 kids Entertainment

The dead horse that is "complaining about 4Kids" was beaten to a pulp *years* ago. What is there to be gained by continuing to bitch and moan about them now, in 2009?

I'm just wondering when are they finally going to freak out and drop Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's. It gets a little heavy for 4Kids at some point.

Unfortunately, yes.
Nope. It's just that the games now use the voice actors from Sonic X instead of the cast they had been using previously. 4Kids is not involved in the least.

And really, the Sonic X cast isn't that bad at all. So many people through a hissy fit over nothing.

Rofl, the fans' anger was directed at the fact that the subpar voice actors for Sonic X were to be the VO's for the games.

I love 4Kids jokes :D

No really, thats why I watch old Pokemon episodes. For the forced puns and sarcasm. Thats right, Im one of the rare ones who dont give a hoot if its kept like the original Japanese or not (although that always helps with the plot and stuff)

After all, it is supposed to be the version for American kids. There is a bit of a cultural difference. You cant really see it as much with an anime like Pokemon, but some other animes, a little American kid would probably be a bit lost.

In Pokemon (And Dinosaur King), the puns were used in a way to translate the puns in the Japanese version such that they'd still be funny. (well, translation is probably a bad word to use, localize is what I mean) That is understandable because I doubt most people will get some of the language and cultural jokes in pokemon.

But I think after they saw Pokemon's enormous success they must have tried to imitate it in their other properties, which meant tons and tons or re-puns and add-in puns when it didn't need them. (Like what was seen in Yugioh, Shaman King, and One Piece)

That's true, that's what I didn't like, but to be fair, Voice Actor work is the least of the problems that Sonic games need to handle.

Still, I should add that I never really considered Sonic X to actually be a "good anime" in the first place, so the voices in the show was a minor annoyance at most (because it was the show in general I didn't like that much)

Amusingly enough, prior to the 4Kids VAs taking over, practically every single review of a Sonic game with voice acting mentioned how horrendously awful the voices were.

I'm no extreme fan of the 4Kids voices in the newer games I've played, but at least they're tolerable. The pre-4Kids voicework is some of the worst I've ever heard in video game history. That crap had fans?

The only 4kids voice that sounds better in Sonic then the older VA was Robotnik's, and it was going to get changed anyways, considering the guy that used to voice Robotnik died.

I say they either bring back what we loved then or just shutdown, shut-up, and never be heard of again and that's the point.
