Okay. Last year, I started a marathon to watch the entire Pokémon Animé. I gave up, but now I will start it again. I'm going to watch an episode a day, and I will review them. So, wish me good luck, and I will have the EP001 review soon.

Edit: Other people may talk about their marathons, and about what they think of the episodes.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

Good luck. I did the same thing once, then, rewatching the Johto Journeys reminded me of why I temoparily stopped watching the anime.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

I'm currently doing a rewatch too and I have to say that must be one of the best things I did in my whole boring life! Nothing is better than watching tons of Pokémon episodes you didn't see for years all in a row <3
If you don't mind, I'll use this thread to write about a few things I'll have to say about my rewatching too
I won't make detailed reviews for every ep or something like that, just write about a few things that I find along the way...
Like this:
- Misty was EVIL for poor little Caterpie! However, I must say that I remember now why I liked her so much XD
- I already got used to the mature Ash, so watching stupid beginner Ash is so strange and funny! XDDD I love this crazy boy
- Brock actually... was... kind of... cool 0__0 and... he's SHY when he's "in love" with girls 0____0"
- Horsea is cute <3
- They're doing a lot of things they'll never do nowdays: Meowth scratching TRio and Ash, Ash biting Meowth's tail, that crazy Gastly and the creatures it made, real animals (fish, that worm Pidgeotto ate) and other things that it's really weird to see after you get used to the newer eps

That's all for now, hope that's ok that I write this here... if it's ok, I'll write some posts like this from a time to time

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

@Piplup- I don't really mind.

Anyway, here's my review of the first episode:

Pokémon Season One
EP001 {1.1}
Pokémon- I Choose You! {Pokemon! I Choose You!
JAP Airdate: 1/4/1997
USA Airdate: 8/9/1998
Who's That Pokémon: Pikachu

The first episode of the animé series remains to be one of the most dramatic. The Nidorino and the Onix's trainer is likely to Bruno, as his sillohoute showed his signature ponytail. Therefore, the opposing trainer was likely to be Agatha. Ash wants to choose Charmander- but of course, he doesn't get to pick any of the three starters. We all know that he'll get those later anyway. He then chooses Pikachu- the thunderbolt that appears on the pokéball is never seen again. Did he change his pokéball after he left the lab? Then his mother gives him some stuff, including his sneakers (which he already had on. odd.) Then we cut to the adverts.

...And we're back. He's then pulling the Pikachu by a lead, and sees a Pidgey. He's so stupid that he tries to catch Pidgey without even hurting it, but we'll get back to that in the EP003 review. Then he thinks he sees a Pidgey, but it's obviously a Spearow. He throws a rock at it, it goes mad, and then a whole swarm chases Ash and his trusty Pikachu. He then jumps into the nearby lake, and nearly gets eaten by a Gyarados. Meanwhile, Misty is fishing, and fishes up Ash and his Pikachu. Ash then steals her bike, and cycles to Viridian City to heal up his Pikachu. Then the Spearow come back, and Pikachu uses Thundershock on them to stop the Spearow, and to save it's master.

A few points I need to make:

- What's up with Bruno's green pokéball at the start of the episode? In Gen I, none of the pokéballs were green.
- When Ash watches Pro_Oak's lecture, there is japanese writing under the pokémon pictures. But when it zooms out, the writing disappears.
- Ash said that he'd give Misty her bike back. But he doesn't give her a new bike until the end of Johto.
- There's also a deleted scene that only aired in Japan. Before Ash takes Misty's bike, Misty slaps Ash for not caring about his Pikachu. You then see Ash rubbing his face, and Misty's hand in the air.

What I Think: {[I}In this area, I'll talk about things that is presumed to be real in the episodes, but it isn't revealed in the episode.[/I]}

{Recommended by Piplup}-- The pokéball that Bruno threw at the start of the episode could of been a Safari Ball. Which means that he obviously caught a pokémon in the Safari Zone with the Ball. And considering the pokémon that was in the ball was a Nidorino, and considering that you can find it in the Kanto Safari Zone, Bruno probably did use a Safari Ball to hold the Nidorino.

{Recommended by Me}}-- Obviously, Pidgey and Rattata are two pokémon in Route 1 in the games, but Spearow and Mankey (who appear in the episode) aren't. You could argue that that part of the route was Route 22 (were Spearow and Mankey live), but you have to go through Viridian City to get there. Strange.

Final Review:

Like I said, it's very dramatic for a first episode. A few errors, but other than that, it's great.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

I'm currently doing the same. I've finished Kanto and I'm on to episode five of the Orange Islands. Got a long way to go, but it's bringing back a lot of good feelings watching the episodes. Be glad to see your reviews and 'Piplup's' too.

When Ash watches Pro_Oak's lecture, there is japanese writing under the pokémon pictures. But when it zooms out, the writing disappears.

Complete with goofs, you're pretty observant.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

The next review will probably be up tommorow, just in case anybody wants to know. I will also be reviewing the movies, after I finish each season, along with shorts and tv specials. I will also review Chronicles once I finish Johto.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

Nice,I decided to start doing the same some days ago.I´ll edit this post with my throughts of the first episode later...
- What's up with Bruno's green pokéball at the start of the episode? In Gen I, none of the pokéballs were green.

Maybe he painted it to make it more special?a la Richie?

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

Ash wants to choose Charmander-

Actually, when Ash came to Oak, his first choise was Squirtle, then Bulbasaur and the last was Charmander since it's the only one left
Or at least so it was in the English version...

Did he change his pokéball after he left the lab?

Or it's just a random sticker Oak slapped on them to remember and Ash took it off? XD though I guess the writers just forget it

Meanwhile, Misty is fishing, and fishes up Ash and his Pikachu.

I so laughed at Misty's reaction! She says "oh, it's just a boy" or something like that and she's totally relaxed and isn't surprised at all!! XD as if it's normal to randomly fish boys out of the sea XDDD

- What's up with Bruno's green pokéball at the start of the episode? In Gen I, none of the pokéballs were green.

Safari Balls are green
While gen 1 games didn't have good enough graphic to showcase the difference in the look between the different balls, we did get official art that showed how they looke like

- Ash said that he'd give Misty her bike back. But he doesn't give her a new bike until the end of Johto.

Ash NEVER give her a new bike XD
In the episode Misty leaves, the Nurse Joy of Viridian's Pokémon Center says that the previous Nurse Joy that worked there at the time Ash began his journey fixed Misty's bike and she gives Misty the bike back...
So actually, Ash never followed his promise to get Misty new bike and didn't give her anything else instead either XD

I just watched the Kangaskhan ep
I'm going by the official English seasons so I don't watch Japanese only things like Dratini/Porygon and for "Beauty and the Beach" I skipped it for now, since obviously other countries never got it and I'm trying to make this rewatch as close as possible to rewatching the Hebrew version would be XD but I'll watch this ep later
I think the next few eps are going to be great: the bike gang, Duplica (I like her!), Pikachu's goodbye and the Eevee brothers! all great eps...

Nice to hear a lot of other people are trying to do a rewatch of the whole show too (I guess Scott will be happy to hear this too XD )

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

I'll be rewatching the entire original series as well soon, I just need to finish Advanced Battle.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

@Piplup- Oh, I never thought about it being safari balls. I'll put stuff that isn't real, but I think would be real, like that safari ball thing, in the reviews.

@double trouble!- That's cool. I'm watching the entire pokémon series, so I suppose your mission isn't as hard.

EP002's review will be up by the end of today.

Pokémon Season One
EP002 {1.2}
Pokémon Emergency! {Emergency! Pokémon Center!!}
JAP Airdate: 8/4/1997
USA Airdate: 9/9/1998
Who's That Pokémon: Koffing

At the start, we have a little flashback, which is preceded by the title card (with a different background to the one that was in EP001). Officer Jenny then sees Ash with his Pikachu come into Viridian City, and wonders if he's part of Team Rocket. After she finds out that he's good, she drives them both into the PokéCenter. Once they get there, Nurse Joy takes the Pikachu, and tells Ash that she's going to heal up his Pikachu. A few minutes later, Ash sees some videophones, and decides that he should call his mother. His mother then encourages Ash to never give up, and she then ends the call. Then Ash sees some panels on the wall, and one switches on to show a screen with Pro. Oak sitting at. And then we have the adverts. And we're back again. Then Misty comes in, and shows Ash how much he f***ed up her bike. Then Nurse Joy comes in, and shows Ash that his Pikachu has healed succesfully. And then Team Rocket come, and they try to steal the pokémon in the center. Then Pikachu uses Thundershock, therefore making Team Rocket ‘blast off again’. Meanwhile, Ash and Misty are in Viridian Forest, and they see a Caterpie…Quotes:

Delia: Do you understand?

Ash: Yes.

Delia: And are you changing your underwear everyday?

Ash: …Yes…

~
Oak: And when my grandson said that you wouldn’t have got a single new pokémon, I bet a million dollars to say he was wrong!

~
Oak: Ah, my pizza’s here. COMING!!

Goofs:

- The Pidgey in the clock is green. Since when has Pidgey been green? Unless they’ve got a shiny Pidgey. But shinies didn’t exist until Gen II! Stoopid TV Tokyo.

- Just after Officer Jenny alerts the PokéCenter, we see Jessie in their balloon with no lipstick.

Final Review:

A good episode. Some hilarious quotes, but also some more goofs.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

I did this back in 2009. If you watch at a rate of 3 episodes per day, you can get through the series quickly enough.

I rewatched every Kanto, Orange, Johto (well I skipped some of Johto's bad filler eps), and AG ep over 2009.

I'm gonna wait till DP ends before I rewatch it.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon

I've been watching AG since November and I've only made it to AG101 so far.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon {EP002 Review Is Up}

@Scott- I think I'll watch 2 episodes per day, cos otherwise I won't be able to remember all that happened in the three episodes.

Since we saw Pidgey in not only the first ep but also in this ep itself and they were in their right colors, I'm sure this was intentual... but why? I don't know, maybe to emphasize that wasn't a real Pidgey in the clock? XD

I did this back in 2009. If you watch at a rate of 3 episodes per day, you can get through the series quickly enough.

So far I'm going at a rate of AT LEAST 5 eps a day XD but that's only because I have nothing to do currently so I'm most of the time in home...

Stuff like this pisses me off. 4Kids thinks they're funny, but they're not, and they just end up ruining the tone of the show with this garbage. The thing about the pizza really grinds my teeth, 'cause it replaced a really easily translatable line about ramen noodles, which every American is familiar with, goddamn it, but oh no, God forbid we have any Japanese culture in a Japanese TV show! Burn the cable box, Ma, someone made the ungodly claim that other countries exist outside of America!

And what's really depressing is that it only got worse from here on. At least in these early episodes, Japanese culture actually exists.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon {EP002 Review Is Up}

The thing that gets me about that underwear line is he had yet to be away from home for over a day, and the sun was only just setting by the time he got to Veridian.

That morning: Change your underwear everyday!
Later that evening: Are you changing your underwear everyday?
2 hours later: Ash, it's been months! You've changed your underwear, right?

Talk about your swiss cheese holes.

The Pidgey in the clock is green. Since when has Pidgey been green? Unless they’ve got a shiny Pidgey.
That's the magic of bootleg merchandise. It's not bound by mother nature's law of accurate color schemes.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon {EP002 Review Is Up}

I always laughed how in episode 2, Ash points to Articuno on the wall and he thinks that's Ho-oh. The sad thing is even Oak thinks he's talking about Ho-oh.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon {EP002 Review Is Up}

You mean it wasn't a Norwegian Blue? It certainly wasn't a very lively depiction of a bird.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Marathon {EP002 Review Is Up}

What's up with Bruno's green pokéball at the start of the episode? In Gen I, none of the pokéballs were green.

Could it have possible been a safari zone Pokemon?
Haven't seen the first episode in months. Terrible memory.
I did notice Pikachu's Pokeball has a little lightning bolt on it. That's pretty cool none of the other Pokeballs have a leaf or a flame ect. They should have kept that up.
