So it's named after a bizzare Japanese musician, who cares?

Humminwood Town

The primary exit from the town is at the bottom, which fulfills the role of any other starting route.
The protagonist's house is in the middle of the town, whereas his rival (friend in this case, much like that of the rival in Diamond/Pearl) lives in the house above with the stall next to it. When the player earns the 2nd gym badge, they can buy several natural remedies here such as roots and powders. Incidentally, the further the progress made, the more wider range of products become available.
Professor Redwood occupies the laboratory in the north east of town, and a route north from there becomes accessible when Cut and Surf is aqquired.

Like I said, comments and criticism welcome, I'll take them all into account when designing my second town.

Nice map, I like the form :)
You use the space well.

I think you possibly have a couple too many houses of the same style. That's not a major problem but in most games they tend not to exceed 3 of the same house.

You could add a sign to give the town name and a short description like those in the real games.

My other gripe is that there's some tall grass actually in the town itself. Be careful with this because a player could inadvertently walk in it and not have a Pokémon with them.

A very minor suggestion, if you have time and a bit of patience you could try varying the grass. FRLG has a few different grass tiles to give a less uniform pattern. It's not vital by any means but if you want to just finish it off, that would be the way to go ;)

However, that's just me being picky. As I say, good form and smart use of space. Some maps that get made have too much open space but you've successfully avoided that, so well done! The little details like the sandy path way are well made and not at all rigid. Gives it a nice natural feel. Keep up the good work :)

Thanks Fangking. I had the idea of blocking off the grass nearby Prof. Redwood's laboratory by his Aides studying grass patterns, or even a battle (a la Gold and Silver) but either can work. I like it, but it feels like a novelty... maybe I should remove it?

While I ponder, here's an update; route 1 (makes things easier to call them 1, 2, 3 etc. It's a seperate region after all) from Humminwood Town to Tempace Town (the next town, coming soon).

Route 1

The item ball's a Potion, the traditional item of choice on a starting route, and a man will be hiding the first alcove of grass along the top. Talking to him will wind up with him giving you a Poke Ball voucher, which can be exchanged for 5 Poke Balls at the next town's Mart.

How'd you make these?

Oh, and they look very professional. I think a nice name for the first town would be Humminwood city, as it looks peaceful.

Humminwood City? I like Humminwood Town, it doesn't look City-worth to me. Thanks for the feedback.

And I used a tile sheet, and just simply arranged the tiles I wanted to make a city. I recoloured the houses though.

Nice maps! I usually make mine in Elitemap or RPGmakerXP (because I feel designing the map is more important than precise tile laying)
How about for the first town, Kaba town after Kaba-chan, the one who did the new Ierukana remake.
Another town could be Rica
Do a Pokemon cast themed region, pretty original.

Hmmm, sounds interesting. Thanks for the ideas guys!

Small update on the starter town map, I wasn't very happy with it so I made it a lot smaller to conform with the rules of regular starter towns. Still, it's a bit different. I've also decided to name it Humminwood Town (credit to Habunake really) as it's just a great name. Tempace Town, the second town, will be up soon.

Okay, here it is, the second town in the Imakuni Region.

Tempace Town

Quite a small town this one, I didn't want to have to much going on, but at the same time wanted to shift it up from the the first town. As a result, there's a sense of denser civilization, and a market (which replaces the Pokemon Mart, though they do near enough the same thing). There's a route north which leads to the next route and the route east leads to the Pokemon League. Lack of a gym too, but that'll be sorted in the next town.

Nice towns here, i started making one myself and forgot all about it -_-
I look forward to seeing the next one.

Small update, this one's not one of my best, but I'm specifically looking for comments and criticism regarding this route.

Route 2

Ah yeah, forgot to mention. When you get Surf, you can cross the water here and talk to a man in the house who claims he has hardly any visitors and gives you a Fire, Leaf, Water, Thunder, Dawn, Moon or Dusk Stone depending on the day you see him. This can only be done once, so you can't return other days and get more stones.
