The Setting
The world of pokemon. Incredible to behold! Home of the most mysterious of all creatures.
In the forests, up in the skies, and in the seas. Pokemon can be found in places all around this world.
The lives of people and pokemon have been bound together since the beginning of time, sharing the bonds of trust and respect.
Now we meet the young trainers, who with their partner pokemon, work together to battle and catch pokemon. And for every new pokemon that they meet a brand new and exciting adventure awaits them.

((Literally stole that intro from the beginning of the newest movie.))
This roleplay will take place in the six regions of the main games: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos. Currently we will be located in Kanto. Each character will be a starting trainer, though exactly how old I leave up to each roleplayer. I personally believe it is quite plausible to have a character who may have gotten a late start on becoming a trainer due to various reasons. Or who never even intended to be a trainer and decided to later in life.

Rules
[x] Read the Story and the Important Information. Both are vital to understanding the setting and to your ability to roleplay convincingly within it.
[x] Respect everyone, and not just in this Roleplay, everyone. Do not flame, ever.
[x] Follow your own senses. Don't do anything stupid.
[x] Respect your thread-masters! If you aren't going to roleplay after applying, please notify your thread-masters so they may prepare in consequence...
[x] Cursing is allowed, but don't go crazy with it.
[x] Romance is welcomed, but no farther than that within the RP.
[x] Please do your very best to stay literate. Unless your character has a strange accent or something. Misspelling words is understandable, but not all of the time.
[x] We all suffer from writers block at one point or another. Do not let this stop you though. If you must post a one sentence post then so be it. Just try not to make a habit of it.
[x] Please at least check this thread every other day. We want active members here.
[x] Inform me/us when you will be gone please.
[x] Out of Character, OOC, will be posted like such: ((Out of Character post example)).
[x] If you leave the Roleplay I reserve the right to use/reuse your character within the Roleplay.
[x] I reserve the right to change these rules at any time.

Important Information
A character/trainer may choose to receive a new "starter" in each region/league that they participate in. This pokemon must be native to that region, must be able to evolve, must be in its first form, must NOT be a baby pokemon, and must NOT be part of a pseudo-legendary evolution line. A pokemon may be chosen if it has a baby form that is obtainable only by breeding while holding incense.
As far as story goes a character can receive their "starter" pokemon from a pokemon professor, from a friend or relative, through a trainer's school, from another sponsor, or from another source so long as it it plausible.

A pokemon may only speak their name. Pokemon may communicate with each other, and their dialogue will be written <Like this.> Powerful Psychic type pokemon may be able to communicate telepathically, which will be written <<Like this.>> And some pokemon may be able to communicate via body language, codes, or charades.

I would like to include Natures and Characteristics for roleplaying purposes, mainly for impact on a pokemon's personality. I do not intend for these to impact a pokemon's overall potential as far as stats though. And if anybody would rather not include them at all then feel free to exclude them. Also some slight variation in color and appearance can be allowed for further character.

Moves will be learned as normal as a pokemon grows and gains experience. Though I do not intend to have a stat or exp system, so I mean this as metaphorical experience. A pokemon will NOT be limited to only four moves and will be able to use every move that they have learned. Move Tutoring will be more and less prevalent. Move Tutors as they are in the games will still exist, though they will mostly be specialists that will be able to teach only a single move each. Instead, or also, a pokemon may be tutored in the use of a tutor-able move by another pokemon that already knows the move. Some egg moves may be obtainable this way also.

TMs will return to being single-use items. TMs will be able to be purchased, found, and received as gifts. Almost all TMs will be more readily available in shops, though at high prices. Though if a character finds a TM that they do not need they could always trade it to another trainer.

Characters will be able to travel from region to region. When a character travels from one region to another they may do so for one of two reasons. One: Recreation/business. They're going for a specific reason or just for a vacation. Two: To challenge the league in that region. If a character is going for the first reason they may bring with them any pokemon they choose, though they will not be allowed to challenge any gyms or the league there. If a character is going for the second reason they may only bring one pokemon, which they may switch out later if they choose. When they apply to participate in a new regions league they must challenge that league from a beginner's position again, not using any pokemon they acquired in previous regions/leagues. Once all eight gyms have been defeated and they are ready to challenge the Elite Four and the Champion in that region they may then use any pokemon they wish.

Becoming a pokemon breeder requires a special license and requires application for a permit each time the breeder wants to breed two pokemon.

I'm thinking of including a very few real-world animals in this roleplay. Basically livestock, fowl, and some generic fish and insects. Just for the purposes of food. Because people like to eat meat. And if there are no non-pokemon animals in the world then that means that all of the people in the world, including our characters and our pokemon, would all be eating pokemon...

When two trainers agree to battle they must also agree to a wager to place on the outcome of that battle. Trainers generally agree to wager the same amount, though variation sometimes occurs when battling at odds. A minimum wager of 100 Pokedollars, also called money and abbreviated as P$ is set. For trainers that are down on their luck and do not possess enough P$ to meet the minimum wager they can always find temporary employment at any pokemon center they pass through.
Character Profiles / Applications
Please PM all applications to me, Stoic. Also, please include a brief roleplaying sample after your application so that I can gauge your roleplaying abilities. Also, I will be keeping a collective list of the profiles of our active members here. So you can check out the descriptions of each others character's and teams and whatnot here also.
Also, this is pretty much a straight copy of the form I use in other roleplays I have done. I know it can look like a lot and some of it may seem like it overlaps, because it probably does. Just fill it out the way you want to. If something seems like you're reaching too deep into a character you barely know yet, then leave it be. You can always add to it or modify it later as you get to know your character better.

Pokemon:
Stoic / Vahn Harold Greyson
Name: Vahn Harold Greyson
Age: 22
Date of Birth: December 15th
Gender: Male
Race:
Sexual Orientation: Straight

Body Structure: Lean
Skin Tone: Fair, very slightly tanned.
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 183 lbs
Hair Color: Dusty Brown
Hair Style: Short and unkempt, tends to stick up in the front slightly.
Eye Color: Faded Green
Other Features:
Upper Clothing: A light green t-shirt underneath a black hoody with a silhouette of a shield with crossed swords on the right shoulder in grey and white, a red and blue yin yang is on the opposite shoulder.
Lower Clothing: Worn and faded light denim jeans.
Shoes: Worn and comfortable faded brown leather hiking boots.
Gloves:
Other: A worn brown leather belt and a tan canvass backpack with a single wide cross-strap.

Social Standing: Unknown. So far...

Occupation: Aspiring Pokemon Trainer.

Personality: Vahn is a pretty carefree individual. He prefers not to be negative about things if he can help it and is pretty good at letting go of anger, sadness, and other negative emotions. He generally looks at things positively and tries to stay upbeat, though he does sometimes fall into more a nuetral state as well.

Likes: Mild weather, be it a warm day with a light breeze or a cool and overcast day with a light rain.

Dislikes: Extreme weather.

Hobbies: Reading, travelling.

Strengths: Remembers well what pokemon types are effective against which other types.

Weaknesses: Does not remember well which are resistant to which...

Motivation: Vahn aspires, for now, to become a powerful trainer, though what he intends to do after that he does not yet know. Deep down he is also searching for his parents. Though he is hardly aware of this himself and would not even begin to know how to feel were he to actually find them.

History/Background: Vahn is the son of two powerful trainers. The two of them took time off from their journey to raise their son, but eventually the road called to them and they decided to decided to leave Vahn with his grandmother while they went on a brief adventure once again. They never returned. Vahn was only three years old at the time.
When his parents first left they said that they would be home soon, just a few more weeks, or a couple of months, after the new year. But their excuses kept coming fewer and farther between until they no longer bothered to claim they would return at all. They did send letters, telling their son that they thought of him often and regaling him with tales of their adventures.
When Vahn was still very young his parent's stories sounded like fantastical adventures and kept him in thrall. He viewed his mother and father as though they were great wandering heroes. Though as he grew older he eventually began to resent them for choosing the road over him. It was this attitude that led him to decide that he would not become a trainer when he turned old enough. And he didn't.
Vahn tried numerous things as he grew older. He continued schooling for a while, and had various jobs. He even looked into establishing a career and maybe even a family. But none of these things could hold his attention for very long. As much as he had grown to resent his parents for leaving him behind he still couldn't let go of how much their tales had regaled and enthralled him as a child. In the end he decided that he would become a trainer, and that if that didn't work out for him he could simply go home and move on to the next thing.

Misc.:

Weapon of Choice: Vahn carries a hand-axe and a woods-knife in his pack, but these are for his travels and not intended to be used as weapons. He did spend several years practicing martial arts, and though it has been some time for him many of those instincts are deeply ingrained.

Pokemon:
Soran, Sandshrew (Male, Sand Veil, Adamant, A little quick tempered)(Scratch, Defense Curl, Sand Attack, Poison Sting, )
Alexei, Mankey (Male, Anger Point, Hardy, Somewhat stubborn)(Scratch, Low Kick, Leer, Focus Energy, )
Terram / Anna DuPont
Name: Anna DuPont
Age: 16
Date of Birth: June 24
Gender: Female
Race:
Sexual Orientation: Straight

Body Structure: Slim
Skin Tone: Fair, if not a little tan
Height: 5’5
Weight: 130
Hair Color: Light brown
Hair Style: Very slightly wavy, that falls to her shoulders, with bangs swept to the right
Eye Color: Dark Green
Other Features:
Upper Clothing: A gray sweater with white collar features, and a black blazer like jacket. Additionally a gray scarf
Lower Clothing: A pair of dark denim jeans
Shoes: Black boots
Gloves: Only when cold
Other:

Social Standing: Not terribly popular, but not unpopular either.

Occupation: Aspiring Gym Leader

Personality: While she often appears bored or unexcited, this is usually not the case. Anna is usually energetic or excited about most things that she does; it’s just that she portrays the image of someone who is bored or disinterested with what they are doing. As a cause of this, many people have difficulty detecting what kind of mood she is in. Displaying some anti-social tendencies, Anna isn’t one to approach a person and engage in conversation. Most people find however that, as they get to know her, she turns out to be a nice person who is relatively friendly. Anna is also somewhat oblivious to how pretty she is and how often guys tend to look at her.

Likes: Pokémon, Cold weather, friendly people, food

Dislikes: Arrogance, Nonsense, Immaturity

Hobbies: Reading, photography, travelling

Strengths: Dependability, high general knowledge

Weaknesses: Understanding other peoples moods or emotions, can come off as snobbish

Motivation: Wants to follow in the steps of her Grandparents

History/Background: Anna grew up in the upper class of Goldenrod City as an only child. Her father worked as a banker for one of the large banking firms in the city which resulted in him not being around very often, but it did result in her family having a large amount of money. Her childhood home was a high rise apartment in the middle of the city, not an average place for a family. Anna’s mother was always caring to him and she continues to hold her in high regard, being much closer to her than her father. As Anna grew up, her father insisted that she attend the prestigious private schools in the area to get the best possible education. While enjoying school, Anna always felt that Pokémon training was her true calling, even though her father wouldn’t allow it. Her mother knew how much she wanted to train Pokémon, so she gave him her first, a Trapinch, even without permission from her father. Anna loved her Trapinch, and felt that she needed to go on a journey in order to achieve her real potential as a trainer. Her mother agreed, but her father did not, feeling that she was just wasting her time on a silly hobby that would take her nowhere. Without her father’s approval, but still determined to regain it, Anna set out on a Pokemon journey in order to prove her father wrong and follow in her pursuit to become a Pokémon trainer.

Weapon of Choice: Doesn’t have one

Pokemon: Eevee
Heartist / Jade Ezra
Name: Jade Ezra
Age: 15
Date of Birth: 12/30
Gender: Female
Race: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual

Body Structure: Wiry and lithe
Skin Tone: Porcelain
Height: 5' 4"
Weight: 121 lbs.
Hair Color: Auburn

Lower Clothing: Olive-green jeans
Shoes: Black high-tops
Gloves: Dark gray, fingerless
Other: She wears a necklace with a jade wolf centered in the middle.

Social Standing: Socially awkward, she likes to avoid conversations.

Occupation: Artist, Pokémon Trainer

Personality: Jade, as stated before, is socially awkward and prefers to have as little a conversation as possible. However, she can sometimes hold a pretty decent chat with tolerable people. She tends to come off as shy and lost in her own world, but she is far from dense and turns very sarcastic when she comes out of her shell. She can be mean when she needs to be, but she is generally mellow.

Likes: Silence, the dark, dragons, other tomboyish things

Dislikes: Bugs, loud people, dense people, spiders

Hobbies: Art, snowboarding, track

Strengths: She is very agile, can run fast, and doesn't easily lose her cool

Weaknesses: Horrible at starting up conversations or keeping them going, often looked down upon, slightly offputting and very pessimistic

Motivation: To follow in her mother's footsteps and become a Pokémon League Champion

History/Background: Jade grew up in the lesser known part of Unova, relatively close to Twist Mountain. Her mother, who was champion at the time, taught her survival skills all the while traveling to and from the Pokémon League in order to keep her title. There was one time, however, where a nearby swarm of Excavalier and Karrablast were driven out of their habitat by Team Plasma. Blinded with rage, they attacked Jade and her mother. The angered Pokémon had killed her mother and injured Jade. Running back to the little cabin she'd been raised in, she couldn't believe what happened. Crying was a daily thing for Jade, as well as using up the little supplies that were left. When she was forced to run away from her home, Jade ended up in one of the mining cities. Along the way, she met a little Axew that looked like it needed a friend, so she decided to take care of it. After a few years, she could no longer live on the streets, so she joined a docking ship as a stowaway. When she was kicked out, she was abandoned in Kanto. Left on the docks of Vermillion City, Jade wandered in the region until she ended up in Cerulean City.

Misc.: The Axew is named Guillotine.

Weapon of Choice: Tomahawk. Goes with her Pokémon, doesn't it?

Eye Color: Dark Brown

Social Standing: Working Class
Occupation: Numerous odd jobs (Painting houses, electronic repairing, yard work, etc.)

Personality: Although his status, history, and occupation all suggest that he is a grim and uncompassionate person, this could not be any further from the truth. In reality, he is actually warm, friendly, and understanding towards those in need. He is not naïve however, and absolutely hates those who try to take advantage of him. He values determination above all and believes that anything can be accomplished with the right amount of willpower.

Likes: Pokémon, hard work, and determination
Dislikes: Thieves and swindlers, liars, lethargy and those who practice it
Hobbies: Playing with his Pokémon
Strengths: He knows how to repair just about every consumer good thanks to his current occupation and survive with bare necessities
Weaknesses: He isn’t very educated school-wise or on the technicalities of Pokémon, having the battling skill level of a fledgling trainer.
Motivation: Kestron aspires to become a Pokémon breeder just like his father was and to give back to his community.

History/Background: Kestron Laurent was born to an Afro-French family in the stereotypical “south side” of Fuchsia City, where crime and poverty ran rampant. His mother was a midwife while his father owned and ran a makeshift Pokémon daycare under the apartment they lived in. His sister, six years older than Kestron and his only other sibling, ran out with another man when she was sixteen and has not been seen since. A few years later, a suspicious man entered the store and tried to mug the daycare of the Pokémon and its money. When Kestron’s father tried to retaliate and tackle the man, he was fatally shot with a concealed. His mother tried to run to her husband’s side, but she was shot as well in the back and left paralyzed from the waist below. Kestron was left deeply traumatized by this experience and developed a burning hatred of those who steal. The years that followed proved to be difficult as Kestron worked from job to job while his mother struggled to keep the daycare open and maintain ownership of their house. When Kestron turned sixteen, he was given his first Pokémon, a newborn Horsea from their daycare, as a gift by his mother at the request that he should go on an adventure. With bittersweet tears, Kestron headed with his starter toward Pewter City, where his first badge lies in wait for him.

Misc.: Often uses slang words such as “ain’t” or “gonna” when speaking.

Weapon of Choice: A small selection of simple tools (i.e. screwdriver, hammer) and a small knife, used primarily for jobs and intimidation purposes.

This area will mostly be for important and or recurring NPCs. Also for the characters of inactive members, which will basically be treated as NPCs.
Maps
For the most part I imagine we'll just use the maps that are presented in the games for each region. Though if we start venturing off-route we may have to get a little more detailed about the unexplored spaces in between on the existing maps. Any maps that we make for those purposes will be kept here.
Banners
Currently there are no banners. But this is where they'll go if/when we get any.

((Alright. In order to actually get started we need to actually decide on a region to start in. So I want each of our members to post here, in ooc, and rank the regions from 1-6. Then we'll organize them by ranking and our collective Number 1 will be our starting region. Mine are:
1 Kanto
2 Hoenn
3 Johto
4 Sinnoh
5 Unova
6 Kalos))

(( I would say mine are: 1. Unova 2. Hoenn 3. Kalos 4. Johto 5. Sinnoh 6. Kanto. But I'm open and will go along with what everyone else wants))

Can i reserve a place?

1. Johto
2. Kanto
3. Hoenn
4. Sinnoh
5. Unova
6. Kalos.

But to be fair i like all the regions.

1) Unova
2) Kanto
3) Johto
4) Hoenn
5) Kalos
6) Sinnoh

These are my rankings for the reasons. I've never seen a Unova roleplay on here, and it's my favorite region by far.

1. Kanto
2. Hoenn
3. Kalos
4. Johto
5. Unova
6. Sinnoh

I like all the regions. Kanto is little bit special because of Crystal. But the rest almost equally same..

((Well, we've gotten rankings from five people as of so far, though only two of those have sent me an application. And right now our rankings are at:
1 Kanto
2 Hoenn
3 Johto
4 Unova
5 Kalos
6 Sinnoh
So I think we'll go ahead and go with this. So we'll be kicking this off old school. Kanto for starters, But once we're done or get bored with Kanto we'll be moving on to another region.))

"Good morning, Vahn." Mr. Nielsen said.
"Morning." Vahn said back.
"Are you ready to meet your first pokemon partner?" Asked the tall dark skinned teacher.
"I am." Vahn said, somewhat nervously.
Mr. Nielsen reached behind him and picked up off of his desk a small wooden case. He held it out before him and opened the lid. Nestled inside on a bed of soft black cloth sat a sphere. Half white and half red with a divider around the middle and a button on the front the pokeball gleamed under the fluorescent lights. Vahn reached out, hesitated, and then laid his palm across the ball. He grasped it and lifted it from the case, then held it up before him.
"I put a fair bit of thought into trying to choose a pokemon that I thought would suit you. I hope the two of you get along well." Mr Nielsen said.
Vahn stared at the ball for a moment longer and then cast it into the air. The ball spun for a moment as it sailed through the air and then split open along its seam. A mass of red light spilled out and settled onto the ground. The ball closed again and sailed back into Vahn's waiting hand while the light faded and revealed a pokemon standing on the floor. It was small and a yellow-tan color with large dark almond shaped eyes and a white belly. It had a softly pointed face, rounded triangular ears, small claws, and a thick tail. The sandshrew gazed up at Vahn then glanced at Mr. Nielsen and then looked back to Vahn again.
"A sandshrew." Vahn said softly gazing at the pokemon, his pokemon.
"As I said, I hope it suits you." Mr. Nielsen said.
"No. I mean, yeah. It, he's perfect." Vahn said.
Vahn squatted down to put himself closer to Sandshrew's level. He reached out one hand but didn't quite reach out all the way to the small pokemon.
"Hey, buddy. You and I are going to be partners. I hope we can be good friends too." Vahn said.
The sandshrew looked at him, and then to Mr. Nielsen again. Vahn couldn't see from where he was but the teacher gave the pokemon an encouraging nod. The sandshrew looked back to Vahn again and his outstretched hand. He leaned forward a little bit and sniffed at the proffered hand. After a moment of this he stepped forward and nuzzled his head up underneath the hand.
Vahn smiled and chuckled a bit. "Yeah, we are going to be good friends, aren't we."
"Would you care to give him a name? Many trainers simply refer to each of their pokemon by their species, but a lot of others give each of them individual names." Mr. Nielsen explained.
Vahn paused for a moment and then spoke. "Not yet. We've only just met. So I think we should get to know each other a little better before I decide what to call him."
"Very well." The teacher reached behind him again and pulled out a small stack of items and papers. "I have here your trainer's liscense, registration for the Kanto league, a badge case, and a pokedex."
Vahn patted Sandshrew again and then stood. He accepted the items from Mr. Nielsen with one hand and unslung his backpack with the other. He began putting the items away into various pockets and pouches in his pack.
"Thanks again for doing this for me Mr. Nielsen." Vahn said. "I know it's a little unusual."
"Nonsense, Vahn. Everybody needs to live their life the way that they think is best. Just because you decided to become a trainer a little bit later than most people do does not mean that you don't have just as much right to do so now as you did when you were younger." The teacher said.
"Yeah, ten years later than some people." Vahn said with a wry smile.
"It makes no matter when you start. Many people that become trainers continue their journeys indefinitely. You're plenty younger than many of them."
"I suppose. Anyway, thanks again though."
"Anytime, Vahn. Now, you should get started while there's plenty of daylight left. No time like the present, right?"
"Right." Vahn said with a grin. He glanced down at his sandshrew. "Ready, partner? Let's get going."
Vahn turned and began making his way out of the Trainer's School. Sandshrew hesitated a moment and then turned and started walking after him. Together the two of them exited the building and emerged into a bright Viridian City morning.

((If everyone could send me an updated application suited for Kanto I will get those posted up and we can all get started then.))

Jade's ever-daring gaze landed on the town in front of her. Cerulean, she thought it read.. Looking down to the Axew beside her, she pondered aloud one question to her tusked friend.

"Do you think the regions gonna be different from Unova, Guillotine?"

The Axew seemed to shrug, his olive head turned towards the sign ahead. Eyes wide, he started towards the gate in a tired gait - although excitement radiated from his anxious stare.

"Wait up, Guillotine!" Jade called after her Pokémon, running after the dragon-type hastily.

((Sorry for the short post, I'm a bit out of it today.))

"The next station will be Pallet Town," a soft voice chimed throughout the car. Anna barely registered the announcement as she stared out the window, watching the Kanto countryside race past. Please remember to take all of your belongings upon exiting the train, and we wish you a pleasant day" Noticing others around her begin to collect their things together, Anna was snapped out of her daydream, and looked around to make sure she had all of her belongings. The train ride itself hadn't taken as long as she had first expected, though it seemed an eternity ago that she waved goodbye to her parents at the station back in Goldenrod City. Frowning slightly, she wondered silently to herself if she had made the right decision leaving home to go on a Pokemon Journey. After all she really didn't know much about training or raising Pokemon to begin with, and the Poke-ball she felt in her bag had only been given to her a few days ago.

Anna turned her head back to the window trying to dispel her thoughts of self doubt. "This is what I want to do" she thought to herself, "I'm meant to be a Pokemon trainer" Feeling the train slowing down, she lifted her backpack up to her back and straightened her jacket, making sure her outfit was in proper order. The doors to the train opened with a metallic hum, and Anna stepped out onto the platform in Pallet Town, feeling a soft breeze ruffle the waves of her almond brown hair. Brushing a stray hair out of her face, she made her way to a map of the small town looking for the location of the Pokemon professors Laboratory. Pointing with her finger and determining the lab's location wasn't terribly far away, Anna exited the station, smiling as the sun hit her face.

Vahn and his new partner walked down the street together. Vahn was fiddling with a small hand-held computer device trying to bring up information on the Kanto League, the nearest gym, and how to get to it. Sandshrew was walking along beside him, glancing around at the shops and the people. The diminutive pokemon had been donated to the school by a breeder and had not left the school grounds much at all since coming into its possession so this was the first time he had really gotten out and gotten to see the rest of the town.
"So, according to what I'm reading here the nearest gym to where we are... is where we are. But this gym won't accept challengers unless they already have seven badges. So I guess we need to go to Pewter City, which is north along Route 2. And we get to pass through Viridian Forest halfway there." Vahn said, then cut off his rambling when he noticed that Sandshrew wasn't walking next to him anymore.
Vahn glanced back and saw his little pokemon standing outside of a bakery looking in at everything inside. Vahn smiled and walked back to him.
"You ever been inside a bakery before?" He asked.
Sandshrew looked up at him and shook his head.
"You want to?"
Sandshrew nodded his head vigorously.
"Let's go then." Vahn said and led the way inside.
A short while later they emerged with a paper bag full of all kinds of pastries and even some cake and pie. Vahn was letting Sandshrew carry the bag and the two of them walked over to a table that was outside of the shop. The two of them ate together and shared a coffee to wash it down.
"Well, what did you think?" Vahn asked Sandshrew.
Sandshrew nodded vigorously again.
"I'm glad you liked it. You didn't get out of the school much did you?"
Sandshrew shook his head.
"Well, stick with me and you'll see all kinds of things. And we'll eat all kinds of tasty stuff. Though we do need to win for that. We can get basic meals for free at the Pokemon Center, but those'll get old fast. So wha d'ya say, Sandshrew, you ready to take on all comers and win our way to the league?"
Sandshrew nodded again and held up one arm with his claws curled back into a tiny fist.
"Alright. And I really need to think of a name for you... Calling you Sandshrew all the time feels like just calling some person Human. You got any ideas?"
Sandshrew shook his head.
"Well, I'll think on it and run some by you. Let me know when I find one you like. It's going to be your name, you might as well get to make sure you get one you like. Anyway, now that we've gorged ourselves on sugary goodness we'd better hit the road and start working it off."
The two of them rose, threw away their trash, and began walking north.

((My Sandshrew can speak by the way, and does. I'm just not bothering to write it out since there haven't been any other pokemon in my posts so far to understand him.))

To say Pallet Town was small was something of an understatement. Granted, being from Goldenrod City, every other city seemed small to Anna. It had only taken her about 20 minutes to walk from one end of the small town, where the train station was, to the other end, where the Pokemon Professor's laboratory was located. Attempting to rehearse what she needed to say in her head, she felt in her pocket to make sure the note from her father was still there. She recalled back to earlier in the day before she left, when her father had written a note for the Pokemon Professor in Kanto requesting that she receive a Pokedex, and be entered into the Kanto League to take the Pokemon Gym challenge. He had explicitly told her not to lose it, and make sure she give it to the Professor. Remembering his instructions caused her to frown once more, she wasn't a child and didn't want her dad to act like she still was.

Anna stopped at the base of a hill, looking up to what appeared to be the largest building in town, before noticing the small sign on the gate next to the stairs up to the building itself. "Oak Pokemon Research Lab" she muttered silently, "Guess I'm in the right place". Looking up once more, she began to climb to the stairs and upon reaching the top she knocked on the door, saying "Hello? Professor?"

After scrounging up enough pocket change to buy a train ride to as far as Pewter City, Jade boarded the car she was supposedly assigned. Arriving at her destination, she visited the nearest Pokémon center to get a map of this foreign region. As she opened up the map, her Axew crawled onto her shoulder, wondering what she was looking at.
"Look's like we're in.. Pewter City? Yeah, that's it... Oh! Pallet Town has a professor, maybe we could get some guidance there!"
With more energy that previous, the duo made their way through Viridian Forest and furthermore arrived in the larger city.

After resting a bit, Jade continued along the forest path. Emerging into the quaint little town, Jade sought out the largest building and made a beeline for the doors. Calming herself from her energetic frenzy, she saw another person there. Slowing down almost immediately, she hid by the stairs and hoped the person would leave.

((I am going off of a semi-animeish feel for this where the towns and cities are much larger than they are portrayed in the games, but I still think that the only rail line would be the one between Goldenrod and Saffron. Although I had an idea that could work to explain how you got to where you are, in fact you wouldn't have had to stop over a town in advance of your destination. Pidgeots. A group of trainers that have raised up pidgeots and fearows and maybe even the very occasional charizard or dragonite and offer their services for a small fee to fly individuals from one location to another. Not as comfortable as a car or train, but probably cheaper and able to get you to more places faster. What do you guys think?))

((I think that's an interesting idea, though it was never really portrayed in the anime.))

((I know. But it just makes sense to me. People in the anime have been shown to have pokemon help them with all sorts of things, making use of their abilities. A Pokemon Air Taxi or something like that just seems like something that they deliberately didn't do in the anime to avoid making their journeys too easy. And I imagine that even if we do implement it, which I would like to, that it's something that we still would not use often. The whole point of a journey is the journey. The Air Taxi, or whatever it would be called, is there to help you make a quick trip when you need to get someplace quickly.))

((I was just imagining the Magnet train from Goldenrod to Saffron made stops at cities that were in between. Hence it doesn't go to every city in the two regions, just the cities that are more or less in the general vicinity of the train line))

((I suppose it could do that. Though then we'll need to decide where exactly the track runs and which cities it stops in. But yeah, we can go with that.))

((I'll take over Oak, unless you want to do it.))
