Ah, Season One! ^^

Out of all the Pokemon seasons, I'm most familiar with this one. And that's because I've literally seen every Season One episode a thousand times or more, lol. XD

Anyway, Season One is very nostalgic for me. But of course, my favorite episode from seasone one is "Pikachu's Goodbye".

I also like all the episodes where Ash is participating in the Indigo League. ^_^

I sort of liked this season, but it wasn't all that great. I mean, I like it better than the Hoenn region, but Still...

I did like how they had him mature over time, more so than most regions.

The original Kanto was always a fairly great season. Its easy to see why Pokemon became so popular in the first place.

The only problems with this season is Ash releasing too many Pokemon, and not finishing a lot of his Gym battles. Other than that, most of Kanto still holds up today, as do the Orange Islands.

It's the classic of all classics in the anime. Really got you into Pokemon, that's for sure. No matter how many inconsistencies there were, it was actually pretty funny.

The first Kanto saga was awesome. There were some really comedic moments. I think one of my favorite episodes from this season was "Princess vs. Princess."

I LOVE the Kanto region episodes. I think one of my favorites from there was the episode when Ash goes for his Earth Badge, and ends up battling Team Rocket for it! It always gets me thinking about how he would have done if he'd actually Giovanni, because that's something I've been waiting to see throughout the series. I don't believe Ash even knows Giovanni exists, to be honest.

Speaking of Team Rocket, I liked them a lot better back in the Kanto episodes than I do now. Their voices sound a lot better, and they actually seem more like villains than the comic relief sort-of villains they seem to be now. James didn't sound like he was gay, and Jessie wasn't quite such a pushover. They were a legitimate threat to Ash and Pikachu, but at the same time I liked it when Ash and co. eventually just ignored them in the middle of their motto and could see through all their disguises.

I still favor Season 1 above all, today. I wholeheartedly concur that as the season that made the series new at the time and that flared it all up (the hooplah of the late 90's, which brings back so much nostalgia for me), it still offers the most to me today, in a terms of characters, episodes, battles, stories, Pokémon, and what have you. I still find something very inspiring about the Season 1 English Pokémon intro. As we first hear....

"I wanna be..."

(Ash slowly peers up in the Indigo Stadium, and the camera slowly shifts away)

"...the very best. Like no one ever was..."

(Fleeting glances of Squirtle, Cubone, Pidgeotto, and other Pokémon)

...Something about that just feels indescribably inspiring in my eyes, but that has a lot to do with Jason Paige's talent as he puts as an admirable set of emotions into his voice in that intro. In that first English intro, the music just flowed from the visual events very well (rather than the antithesis) for me, and a great, dramatic tone is added to that whole intro. Along with the pace set as well as it is IMO, I still find it to be best, though I do like a number of the other English intro themes (of the later seasons). I have to openly concede, though, that the original Japanese counterpart, Mezase Pokémon Masutā, is so very different but equally a draw-in to me. It's very upbeat and not.... full of camp by any means, but very, very different from the English intro. I still like it a lot, but the Season 1 intro inspires me to go out and do something with larger-than-life determination and emotion, whereas the Japanese intro just makes me feel giddy inside. It just colors me elated. In a good way. A very good way. It's somewhat toilsome to put into words. But both intros have a good, solidified, underlying beat by my ears. Both intros follow the mood of the series well. IMO.

As for the first series, again, I agree. I feel it's best as well. I'd place it above the Orange Island Arc, but I didn't like the Orange Islands that much to begin with. When it comes to the funniest episode.... I'd have to give that to "Holy Matrimony!". An episode with Team Rocket's (the trio of three, of course) background is good. An episode with James being pried to be married (albeit in a jocose way), with Meowth and Jessie involved, is funny. An episode with Ash and company having a hand in it all is classic. The commanding yet humorous way in which James reacts, Jessiebell (that she's nigh identical to Jessie in looks, amongst other things), James' parents... it's one of the episodes that doesn't follow the usual joist of Gym battle rooted and just general episodes. It just wants to humor everyone in many ways and is so... carefree, with very entertaining character interactions. I can appreciate that in full. The dub wasn't too dutiful to the original dialogue and there are certainly glaring discrepancies, but I feel both versions (the Japanese version and the dub) are great. I also think the episodes with Psyduck are very humoring, especially given Misty's resulting reactions to Psyduck... episodes like "Pokémon Fashion Flash", "The Bridge Bike Gang", and "So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd" also come to mind.

I also like how the original BGM was kept a great deal more in the Kanto episodes. The Japanese BGM is shockingly well composed in my ears, with songs like "Pikachu Arrives" and "The Matter's Settled" working very well as backgrounds and being some of my personal favorites (and the music adds quite relaxing and placating tones in my ears). I feel half of the work and content in any media, at least in terms of sheer impact, is in the musical tones. But anyway, to draw this post to a close, the Kanto episodes do bring indescribable nostalgia back to me, as stated. But that's not the only reason why I like them best... I just feel they're very good.

I love Season 1 better than any. Moments I like:

The episode where Ashs butterfree and pink butterfree are in it and they leave together in end. (I found that one a bit sad) And Pikachu's goodbye too.

The music, yeah I find the soundtracks better than others. A few I liked:

"Bills Lighthouse" "Silly Psyduck" "A meeting and a parting" "Tears after the stormy weather" and one or two more and the main theme.

and @ ShadowDeeps

"I wanna be..."

(Ash slowly peers up in the Indigo Stadium, and the camera slowly shifts away)

"...the very best. Like no one ever was..."

(Fleeting glances of Pidgeotto and other Pokémon)

Thats one of my favourite parts too. In the main first theme, I liked seeing the pokemon appear, dragonair was my favourite at time as it was so rare and I liked the "Ho-oh" at the first episode as it was a pokemon not recorded in the pokedex and I wanted to see all the pokemon

I also liked "Bulbasaur and the hidden village" episode too. And until I found out that the episode where Ash caught all the Tauros in Safari Zone was taken off, I assumed that the Safari Zone was a place where no pokemon were allowed to be caught.

I liked the episodes around that one "The Flame Pokémon-athon." One other episode I remember was "Wake Up Snorlax!" cause I liked the hippy in it, he looked neat.

Good times, still my favourite region and anime episodes are all Kanto.

It's probably got one of my favorite openings (English) of all of the seasons. The music was a lot more cohesive with the animation for it.

...ahhh Kanto when the show was interesting and had some great storys that worked outside the box and had...*gasp* character development!

Battle Aboard the St. Ann
Pokemon Shipwreck
Island of the Giant Pokemon

- Nice little arc that they don't do anymore...as well as the Sabrina arc.

The only time in my opinion Kanto got stinky was the "Beauty and the Beach" episode that was thankfully cut, and the episodes between the pokemon league...they weren't BAD...just not on par with the rest of the series, although I'm glad they were included.

Yes, they looked quite threatening using a cardboard box as a shield. And they sure showed that Caterpie a thing or two.

Yeah, we don't see any of that today...

Actually we really don't - so you can keep your smartass sarcastic comments to yourself unless you would like to elaborate your point

I don't see how those comments were smartass or sarcastic at all.

Just because some people don't hold Kanto up on some pedestal doesn't mean that their opinions aren't valid.

And the most obvious example of character development in recent years is Haruka. She started Advanced Generation off not really liking pokemon and without any sort of direction and then grew into a competent (if not lucky) Coordinator who barely resembles her former self at all.

Hikari's growing as well, but not as dramatically as Haruka did.

Your right....

Few things more I remember and like:

The old Team Rocket motto "blasting of at the speed of light..." is better than the new one "Team Rocket, we're in your face!.." and in the first series, I liked hearing it, just gets annoying in D/P episodes today.

Seeing the Jigglypuff wanting to sing to people without them falling asleep and using the marker as a mic, that was pretty cool throughout. And how when it got upset when people fell asleep, it drew on their faces with the marker.

I remember hanging on at the time, hoping things were ok in "Volcanic Panic" episode, because pikachu was about to fall in lava and hoping it did not, but when charizard was used, that was a good thing to see.

The character deveolpment was better than in other anime episodes such as Hoenn or SInnoh. A few of the things I remember that I liked(which did not appear in some other anime episodes of Johto and Hoenn.. as best to my knowladge as I misses a lot of those episodes) was:

Characters shown bleeding in some episodes... in others you see the characters (ash, Brock etc..) being thrown about and not getting scars, bruises etc.

Seeing some actual animals in anime (not pokemon) in the Cerulean City gym, the fish and the pidgy eating the worm etc..., not seen anything like it in other regions as far as I know.

I really don't see how the character development was better in Kanto. Houen and Shinou have had their share. Dogasu already mentioned Haruka and Hikari, and I'd like to add Nozomi and Hikozaru. Nozomi hated anyone who did contests and gyms, but after Naoshi defeated her she realized how wrong she was and even apologized to Satoshi. Like Hikari, Hikozaru is undergoing some changes that haven't been fully fleshed out yet, but the writers clearly have something planned for the little monkey.

Enjoying certain stories is really a matter of opinion. But I thought the Tag Battle arc, Riolu two parter, Mumage, and the Gureggru episodes are just some of the most recent episode I thought were good and sort of outside the box. Some of the stuff that happened in the Riolu two-parter has to be as dark as the TV show has ever gotten unless there's some other episode I'm forgetting.

With the exception of most of Johto, there's been character development in every Pokemon season. Johto only did some things with Gary, but other than that all the characters were pretty much stagnant that saga.

True..

But in my mind the most development was in Kanto..

I get what ure saying though...
