Japanese TV Special 03: "Raikou: Legend of Thunder"
Pokemon Chronicles Episode 01: "The Legend of Thunder!"

S3.jpg

Toonami UK, 7:00am and 4:30pm
In the land of Johto, three trainers named Yoshi, Dani, and Jackson fight the forces of Team Rocket to defend the legendary pokemon, Raikou. Can they defeat Atilla and Hun, two members of Team Rocket who are using a mysterious crystal to subdue the legendary pokemon?

Post your thoughts about the episode here. Please mark any spoilers for episodes not that have yet to air in America in spoiler tags.

Jackson's name's now Vincent appearently. Oh dear.

Well it just finished in the UK, the first part that is. I haven't seen the Japanese version so I can't really make comparisons but the episode was cool nonetheless. Wow, a Team Rocket plan succeeded for once, I can't remember her name but was that silver haired TR member a male in the original? She wasn't here lmao.

I quite liked the interaction between Jimmy and Marina throughout the episode, very shippy, although I wish the battle had finished, poor Jimmy was on his way to victory.

The theme songs alright, pretty average to be honest, I think this is the first time the narrator actually talks through it.

Ok it appears the theme song lyrics went like this:

------------------------------------

Gotta catch'em,

Gotta catch'em,

Gotta catch'em all! Pokémon!

P-O-K-E-M-O-N
("pee-oh-kay-ee-em-oh-en")

Party!

P-O-K-E-M-O-N
("pee-oh-kay-ee-em-oh-en")

Pokémon!

P-O-K-E-M-O-N
("pee-oh-kay-ee-em-oh-en")

P-O-K-E-M-O-N
("pee-oh-kay-ee-em-oh-en")
- somebody woman singing it in a high pitched voice this time.

P-O-K-E-M-O-N
("pee-oh-kay-ee-em-oh-en")

Pokémon!

(Narrator now talking while music is still being played)

"Old Friends!"

"New beginnings!"

"Never before seen stories, from the world of pokémon!"

(The "Pee-oh-kay-ee-em-oh-en" spelling is sung in tandem with this next part)

Gotta catch'em,

Gotta catch'em,

Gotta catch'em all! Pokémon!

Gotta catch'em,

Gotta catch'em,

Gotta catch'em all! Pokémon!

Opening was approximatley 33 seconds long.

No it was pretty generic, a bit like the Johto champions league opening. All moving images during the song were from the chronicle episodes.

And unfortunatley no the G/S/C rival didn't appear in the opening, or the first part of the episode. Why was he supposed to?

Well unless I'm blind there was no such shot. Most of the opening comprised of actual pokémon rather than the characters. Jimmy was seen jumping with his Typhlosion and doing that gay thumbs up thing he does (which is now a "You rock! You rule!" motto). Marina was seen dancing with her Jigglypuff for a split second and sitting down somewhere with a load of other people.

Told ya! ;p

Boy, they really screwed this up. Inconsistancy in their own dub names (why dub Kenta as Yoshi? What's the point? Oh, and then change it to Jimmy >_>), gender switching, all sorts of nutty crap . . .

Was there ever any proof that his English name *was* Yoshi? Sure that's who Jackson was talking to at that point in Japanese, but was there ever any evidence that he was talking to the same people in English?

Dani > Marina :-( Now there are two Marinas in the dub.

Oh man... I'm having rabid flashbeacks of Sailor Moon. I just got to see the original version, and now I know I don't even want to see the dub.

Now, there's no point in getting upset about Bashou. After all, it took a lot of courage to do what he did. Many people go through life uncomfortable in their identity and feel a need to "change"... I'm sure once the hormone treatments are through, he'll be feeling much more balanced, and everyone will come to accept bishoujo-bashou...

*snrrk*
