I trying doing a topic like this with the same name on Pokecharms, but i didn't seem to grab anyone's attention, so I'm trying it here to see if it gets better results. Anyway, the purpose of this topic is to discuss things that didn't make it into the final version of a certain video game or canceled games. I've heard of so many that I'm not sure where to start. Might as well wing it! *ahem!*

There was originally going to be a Toad Suit power-up in Super Mario Bros. 3!

Pit from Kid Icarus was supposed to appear in Super Smash Bros., but Pokémon was really popular at the time, so they used a Pokémon instead, one that competed with Pikachu for popularity at the time, Jigglypuff. I would have preferred Meowth, but Jigglypuff is cool too.

You don't say! Guess he's getting his big break in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Here's one that's interesting: Three transformations for Yoshi didn't make it to Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island:

The sprites were from here:http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/lostbytes.shtml

Cool! They replaced the plane with the helicopter, obviously.

In the Ruby and Sapphire ROMs, if you rip the music, you'll find the Saffron City song from GSC, the Legendary Beast song from Crystal, and a Crystal Pokémon Center Song which was only one beat long because it was unfinished. and in the US version, the GSC Rocket song is present!

Sounds like Kanto AND Team Rocket were originally going to be in Ruby and Sapphire, but in the end, I guess people didn't want to have Hoenn overshadowed in same way Johto was.

According to this:http://www.planetnintendo.com/thewarpzone/x407.html Super Mario Bros. 2 (the US version) was going to have more elements of the game it was "hacked" from, Doki Doki Panic.

Super Smash Bros. Mêlée used to have a part where you find a Pokéball, and a Ditto is released, which transforms into a copy of you and follows you like the Ice Climbers. It can still be accessed while using debug mode. It was probably scrapped when Ice Climbers was added as a character.

Ditto's icon is still used as Random in tournaments.

D/P has the R/S title theme in it.

More than likely, these pieces of music were only used as placeholders until the finalised ones were done.

The other question: does anyone have the GSC music ripped from RS? Or a way it can be ripped?

Well, I've used a Rom Hacking utility to allow it to play in certain towns and routes, but I can only rip it using MIDI channels with Sappy.

Birdo was going to be in the Virtual Boy version of Mario Tennis.

And you know those Monkeys from "Super Mario World 2"? There was apparently going to be one that was based off of Donkey Kong.

Pokemon GSC has an unused song, several extra sound effects, an incomplete Game Corner version of "Memory," some beta text about Sweet Honey, a Bird Pokemon type, a few debug functions, loads of unused maps (only three of which can actually be accessed), and a couple of trainers who never appear. They also have data left over from Yellow, proving that the games use a highly modified RBY engine instead of a totally new one. Crystal has various translated text and stuff for the Mobile Adapter link (and the music for it), the music for the G/S intro, and the Celebi GS Ball event.

RBY has some unused text (including for an HM that moves ground), and the aforementioned "Bird" type. There's also a "Board" item that works exactly like Surf. Yellow appears to have a "debug" thing that shows all of Pikachu's emotions as well, but it's unknown if you can access it. The default names are also "NINTEN" (for the player) and "SONY" (for the rival). Seems the localizers had a sense of humor.
