The redub of the controversial "Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon" special is included with the "Lucario and the Mystery of Mew" DVD!

After receiving an invitation from Dr. Yung, Ash, May, Misty, Brock, Max, and Professor Oak all head to his castle laboratory. There, they encounter Dr. Yung's powerful mirage pokemon - pokemon who are able to learn any technique regardless of species or type! Suddenly, a mysterious cloaked figure known as the Mirage Master appears and kidnaps Professor Oak! Now, our heroes must brave the traps set by their mysterious foe in order to stop him from creating the ultimate pokemon!

I'm predicting this will likely become a flame war...

Sadly, I can't get this as I am broke, so I really can't comment.
 
I know the SOVA people wanted to return the Mastermind DVD's because they don't want their pure 4Kids collections to be tainted by PUSA.
 
Although, technically I believe that all the DVD's are distributed by PUSA, I believe.
 
Before any possible flamewar situations, I want to express just how much better this is in comparison to the original in April.

First off, the intro is a million times better - even if it is a bit cheesy and corny, it seems to be just right for an anniversary special. The rap, unfortunately IS still there - but it's been hidden away in the credits instead.

Not all of the actors were redubbed, basically it was only the most problematic and the ones most complained about. In other words, the ones WE complained about.

If you compare that action to... say the Legend of Thunder dub... would you ever have imagined getting a redub of that under 4Kids? Just a thought...

Ash sounds better - although I thought the original Ash sounded fine, save for spotty acting. Brock is right on the nail now and May sounds a lot younger. I believe Oak may have been redubbed - the voice is the same but the acting may have been smoothed over. It seemed slightly less jarring than originally anyway.

Overall, the redub is what it promised to be - better voices, acted better.

The story is still pretty much complete and utter whack - with the same stupid lines like "This is not the Mewtwo you are all familliar with", but that's not the blame of the dubbers. Music is fine and good throughout, and again it's nice to be able to see battles like Mewtwo vs Dragonite without stupid star signs replacing the punch.

This is a show ABOUT battles afterall, they shouldn't be censored.

Ok, so that's that. Now watch as my post gets swallowed up in a bitchfight over "ZOMGZ, THE NEW VOICES STILL SUCK!" "ZOMGZ, THAT'S NOT THE POINT!" "ZOMGZ BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH"...
 
Is the music the same as the original? The BGM was the best part of that dub.

So the writing wasn't fixed at all? Yuck. There's only so much "improving" the voices can do, poor writing can't be saved by that. But for all the problems I had with the first one I did actually enjoy it somewhat, so I'm willing to give it another shot.
 
Well, the original creators probably made the plot, so blame them.

I thought the plot was good, I mean, this is Pokemon. Since when have we had "stunning" plots.
 
I liked the special for no other fact that it reunites the complete cast, (aside from Tracey, but he gets a cameo anyway), for the 10th anniversary.

Considering Misty barely gets any screentime nowadays, it was nice to see her one last time before she fades further into obscurity than she has already.
 
Wouldn't call Misty an obscure character. She's one of the more rememable characters in the series that still has many fans and also still appears and gets referenced in episodes.

Besides, if your going for obsure, there's nothing more obsure then.........

My biggest gripe with Mastermind was that it was BORING! Though I've never found the Pokemon movies all that enthralling. Really, evil holographic Pokemon can only take you so far. And the pwnage of Mewtwo got boring after the first minute. I blame the weak writing more on the problems with this special than anything else.

Amen PUSA or 4Kids aside this was the most boring special ever.
 
Mirage Master was a cool villain though, he could of been even better though.

Personally, I found the YuGiOh movie more entertaining than this (and that's saying a lot).
 
And that was the love child of 4kids...

Seriously, Anubis SCREWED the timeline, they ended with "you can say that again!", and of course "YOU BETTER POSTULATE YOURSELF A NEW JOB!".

I heard the Japanese version was much better, I wonder if that would be true for Mastermind.
