With Mighty No.9 and Super Smash Bros making things dim for the Blue Bombers...let's remember the good times, like...

Mega Man V's awesome Story...

The Metal Blade

Dr. Weil's sheer evil

Roll.Exe being the most competent incarnation of Roll

Tron Bonne

Wizards replacing NetNavis

I Can't Defeat Air Man

and others....

Mega Man V was my first Mega Man experience, so it has a special nostalgic place in my heart. And even after playing the other games, while I admit they do have their moments in both Robot Masters and music, MM5 still feels awesome as a whole.

For example:
- In MM1 boss patterns were pretty horrible. What was it, half the six Robot Masters basically justed rushed you while randomly firing their weapon? And that Fire Man ... it's a pretty good thing his flames did low damage because it was extremely difficult to dodge them effectively. Then there was that Yellow Devil battle....
- MM2 was a little more refined in that but still had its problems of a few robot masters basically just rushing you. Like Flash Man and Quick Man. Introduced the password system and teleporter room in Wily's fortress.
- MM3 seemed to be the point where they got the bosses down to better patterns. The ressurection of the MM2 robot masters was a surprise (and the altered timing of Wood Man's attacks in particular was pretty nasty). Great Wily boss music, best Yellow Devil fight ever. Introduced Rush and the slide.
- MM4 introduced the chargeable Mega Buster. Unfortunately it also extended the length of a boss's invincibility frames when struck, perhaps as a way to encourage you to use the Mega Buster but it still changed the overall pace of boss battles, not in a good way.
- MM5 changed the behavior of Rush Coil. You could still get the same jump height from it, but it just didn't feel the same (so they changed it back later). It finally fixed the ladder pause glitch, and also gave Wily bosses the same invincibility frames as Robot Masters. Charged Mega Buster looked awesome in this game. Also one of the few NES Megamans that DOESN'T feature a time-stopping boss at some point; yes there is a boss who can freeze you but it's a projectile attack of his, not some stupid screen flash that always hits.

*crashes in* DID SOMEONE SAY MEGA MAN?!
My favorite of all the Mega Man incarnations is Mega Man Model ZX.
My least favorite of the Mega Men is Mega Man Volnutt (prepares for the bashing)
My favorite Mega Man Classic game is Mega Man 8, despite how ridiculous it may be.
My favorite Mega Man X game is Mega Man X4 (WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOOR?!?!)
My favorite Megaman Zero game is Megaman Zero 3.
My favorite Mega Man ZX game is ZX Advent, which is my most favorite Mega Man game. A-TRANS FOREVER, BABY!
My favorite Mega Man Legends game is strangely The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. I just found Volnutt to be too unrelateable.
My favorite Battle Network game is Battle Network 5 Team Colonel/Protoman
And my favorite Star Force game is Star Force 3.
My favorite weapon is strangely the Flame Sword, if not the Jewel Satellite.
LONG LIVE THE MEGA MEN!

Ah, next to the Pokemon games, this is a glorious series that I want to see more of!

Pretty much played all the games except Battle Network and Star Force with my favorite being the classic series, followed by ZX for its many branching paths and sidequests, then X because, c'mon, the series has crazy awesome music and the characters and levels are memorable (even if the stories themselves can get a little ridiculous, especially after X5). I love all of them, really. I'm biased towards classic because they were just games to be played with minimum story to be told. Also helps that they didn't decrease in quality, they just stagnated.

My first game in the entire series was Mega Man 2, and while I liked it, after playing other games in the series, it was okay at best. I've had people tell me that it was the game that brought Mega Man to what it is today and I should give it credit for that, and yeah, I'll give it that, but still... I found other games in the series to be better. The music is good, but after hearing it remixed the most, I kinda get tired of it. Strangely, my favorite game in the series was the first game. I don't know, I guess I liked the bosses a lot. X1 is my second favorite of the lot.

Aww, but don't say it's a dim future. ^^ There are other IPs out there that have it much worse, and guess what? They eventually come back from the dead. =) It's also only been, what, four years since Mega Man 10?

I also don't believe Mighty Number 9 to be a successor at all. Just a... uhh, well, he isn't taking Mega Man's place, that's for sure. I look forward to that game and yeah, there are a lot of call backs to the point that it comes close to copyright infringement, but I believe we will get a new Mega Man game someday. Having the best of both worlds is something I look forward to.

I have one question though: Why is Mega Man's appearance in SSB4 and Mighty No. 9 signs of a dim future? It is simply signs that fans love their Rock/Mega Man that Capcom isn't giving to us lately.
Also, here's to hoping we get a 3rd ZX game, maybe one with a Model O user as an antagonist this time around? :p

I don't think crossovers count as Mega Man titles...
