Pokémon X and Pokémon Y introduced the concept of Mega Evolution to us - temporary power-ups that are brought about from a combination of the bond between a trainer and their Pokémon, as well as the mysterious Mega Stones. In XY, one of the 27 Pokémon to receive a Mega Evolution was Blaziken, with the "Blazikenite" Mega Stone only being available for a limited period of time shortly after the games' release.

With the news that Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire will be launching worldwide in November 2014, will the other fully evolved Hoenn starters, Sceptile and Swampert, also receive Mega Evolutions? Or will the scales remain uneven, just like how Charizard has two Mega Evolutions while Venusaur and Blastoise only have one each?

Due to the special circumstances surrounding these two, the decision has been made that they should be allowed their own thread. For all discussion on the possibilities of other Mega Evolutions however, then we ask that users please use this thread.

Personally, I'm thinking something like:

Mega Sceptile
Type: Grass/Dragon
Ability: Leaf Guard/Quick Feet
Base Stats: 80/75/85/155/85/130

Mega Swampert
Type: Water/Ground
Ability: Storm Drain
Base Stats: 140/120/100/105/95/50

As I said in the other thread, I hope Mega Sceptile looks a bit more similar to how it looked as a Grovyle. The Dragon subtype wouldn't hurt either.

OMG yes!!! I'm really OCD when it comes to fairness and I thought it was completely bull that Blaziken got a mega-evo while Sceptile and Swampert didn't. I mean, I guess Charizard getting two forms while Venusaur and Blastoise only got one isn't fair either but the way I see it, that was forgivable since each form was only available in one version. But the other two not getting any mega-evos at all isn't forgivable...

Oh and I just thought of something. Since it's pretty clear at this point that GF for whatever reason favors the fire-type starter with Charizard getting two mega-evolutions and Blaziken currently being the only Hoenn starter with a mega-evolution (maybe it's because Satoshi Tajiri started out with Charmander in his very first Pokemon game?), maybe ORAS will give Sceptile & Swampert mega-evos while Blaziken gets a new one along with the one it already has? I am well aware that it would create a problem with the naming of the Blaziken stones (if there will indeed be two, then the Blazikenite will need a new name to distinguish it from the other one) but if patches are indeed what I think they are (I posted my question in the other mega-evolution thread), then there, problem solved.

Mega Sceptile

Ability: Unburden

Yes let's give it an ability that is completely and utterly useless to it, mega stones can't be removed in-battle through any method and playtesting has confirmed mega evolution doesn't trigger unburden either.

Ah true, forgot about that. Maybe Leaf Guard or Quick Feet then?

I think that Sceptile and Swampert should receive Mega Evolutions, and the upcoming remakes would be the perfect time to introduce them. Besides, if Blaziken can Mega Evolve, why not Sceptile and Swampert? Also, who wouldn't like the idea of Blazikenite not being event-exclusive anymore?

I don't think it's a question of if, I think it is more of what.

Sceptile:
Maybe Chlorophyll and an absurd SpA? Dunno, it doesn't quite feel like the right fit.

Leaf guard is the worst of the weather abilities which already got nerfed, and would not really fit on an offensive mon. x) Quick feet would be useful in negating paralysis but not that great overall. It's probably best fitted for an offensive ability like contrary, adaptability or tinted lens (not that overpowered since lot's of pokemon 4× resist grass). Something like infiltrator could work too.

Considering that Serperior already has Contrary, I doubt Sceptile will. Tinted Lens would be a very interesting choice though.

I'd like to point out that, unless Move Tutors return, Sceptile only has access to one Special Dragon-type move, and only via breeding.

Then again, its movepool could always get altered in ORAS.

Ampharos only learns Dragon Pulse, at level 65. I think it would be quite cool if the Treecko line's movepool was updated so that Grovyle learns Dragonbreath, then Sceptile learns Dragon Pulse. Maybe the Draco Meteor move tutor can be updated to let Ampharos (and Sceptile if it gets a Grass/Dragon Mega) learn Draco Meteor?

They STILL haven't released Contrary serperior. Argh.

Sceptile and Swampert really need mega-evolutions. The fire starter bias really irritates me. Hopefully they just make Blazikenite available in game, instead of producing a second mega evo. The over-designed mess that was Charizard X was bad enough: I think I'll cry if Gamefreak ruin a pokemon I actually like.

That'd be awesome!

I was actually a bit surprised to find out that Sceptile's a Special Attacker. It always looked Physical to me. XD

It could use some more options, certainly. Right now its movepool is overwhelmingly Physical.

Tinted Lens would actually be useful to have specifically because so many types resist Grass. It would also allow its Dragon moves to plow through any Steel-type that isn't Mawile or Klefki.

I feel as if Mega Swampert should get Sheer Force and Sceptile should get Hyper Cutter. Giving Sceptile more physically-oriented stats would be nice, too.

I want an archeopteryx Mega Sceptile, along the lines of Grovyle. So Grass/FLYING, or at the very least Grass/Rock or Grass/Dragon with Levitate. And give it 100+ base Attack so we can use a Swords Dance set. If it's Grass/Flying, possibly Intimidate as an ability?
