Another RP, drawing some roots from both a magical and technological standpoint. No awesome banner, since my PhotoShop isn't working...

The game has begun, it is now changed to Start-Ups. Click here to go to the first post of the start-up.

The world of The Militia takes place in a society disintegrated, long since broken by war and strife. The Fall, a series of events leading to the downfall of unity, has caused extensive change. It was a prompt movement to settlements on New Earth that made things the way they were, where all forms of diplomacy failed. The nations warred, and left scars that were rebuilt over as separate entities entirely. Now, what remains are remnants of our new world, built over with technology nearly indiscernible to mysticism.

In this world, The Militia is a group of soldiers working to preserve their own community. Relations with separate settlements are dependent upon the cooperation of The Militia and their efforts to cease violence and rebuild the world. However, no task so large comes without a price. The world is still hostile, with the fauna of New Earth being nothing short of ghastly and awe-inspiring and the people being reluctant and paranoid due to over two centuries of fighting and strife.

Your character is a member of The Militia's freelance group, who work more or less as special field agents. They are gifted by having adapted and evolved to the surroundings, gaining access to magic.
_______________________________________________

Concept Overview...
You're a member of a field agent system called "The Militia" (it has a name, but it's just called The Militia). Your job as soldiers is to perform any tasks the higher-ups give you at your discretion, sort of like a guild receiving missions and such. The world around you is dissolved from having to move from old to New Earth, caused by warfare and struggles over resources and such.

The goal of the Militia is to restore some peace back into the world and get people integrated into the new world around them: however, the local fauna of New Earth transcend anything anyone could have imagined, having access to the ability to manipulate nature itself (called magic), causing an even greater need for trained soldiers. Those in the Militia's field agent group are able to use "magic", having been born into the world and evolving to fit and survive (natural selection and other such things). As such, they are the best fit to combat most of the planet's threats, seeing as they have both technology and mysticism on their side. Beyond this, what happens in the story will be what happens with the characters.

Rules To Follow
  • Respect what all GMs and Mods say, though this should go without saying.
  • No godmodding. No piece of technology or form of magic is more powerful than any other, unless there is a clear difference.
  • No Tennising. It causes problems and general confusion. If tennising goes on, it will be asked to stop.
  • Don't post OOC-only posts. Please contribute to the game.
  • No spotlighting yourself. Everyone has equal importance in the game.

Things To Note
These will help you function in the game.
  • Comedy is good. Unneeded munchkin-ism is not. Fit the tone, bring some funniness in here and there (keeping it lighthearted is fine), but act seriously when needed. When the GM asks you to stop, please stop.
  • You do have magic; don't think for a second that you transcend technology. Both are used for the same thing: to transcend limitations and solve problems. As such, both require extensive knowledge.
  • Adding to before, magic and technology can essentially do the same thing.
  • Your characters have limitations, as well. Using lots of magic takes a strain on your brain, which causes aneurysms and eventual death.

World Information
Two things to remember:
  1. Magic is naturally gifted. However, no one has total mastery.
  2. Technology is given to the character. It tends to be more reliable than magic at a moment's notice, but lacks the larger use pool.

Banned Magic & Technology Functions
I may add some things if I feel that they are too powerful.
  • Multi-faceted powers; you can have a single ability at the very beginning, no having more than one.
  • Time, Space, Antimatter Control
  • Existence Creation: these include objects and complete existence
  • Omni-Functional Transmutation; the ability to create functional technology via transmutation. Anything transmuted can't have advanced functions, and must only be basic weapons (E.g: Melee weapons are basic, guns are not).
  • Immortality/Invulnerability of any kind
  • Absorption of abilities (absorbing from technology to fuel your power is fine)
  • Endless stamina
  • God-like physicality/performance
  • Total Technological/Magical Disruption; you can disrupt it to a certain point and for a certain time, but not completely.
  • Celestial Body Control

@cannspec2; Non-Pokemon RPs are allowed.

I'm not quite sure I completely understand the concept. Could you maybe give me a better description of what this RP entails?

@Crimson Impact;

Certainly; you're a member of a field agent system called "The Militia" (it has a name, but it's just called The Militia). Your job as soldiers is to perform any tasks the higher-ups give you at your discretion, sort of like a guild receiving missions and such. The world around you is dissolved from having to move from old to New Earth, caused by warfare and struggles over resources and such.

Guess I should put that explanation at the top, huh? Hope that clears things up for you.

SU:

Name: Cynthia Gage
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Height: 5ft 9in
Weight: 124lb

Appearance: Cynthia is a girl of average height with a slim frame that allows her to slide into tight spaces. She's not very muscular, so she prefers to have decent distance from her targets. Cynthia has brown hair long enough to be tied back into a set of pigtails and bright blue eyes that reflect her whimsical spirit. She has a down to earth, natural look that draws out her true beauty when combined with her bubbly and adventurous nature.

Magic: Cynthia can manipulate the flow of air, allowing her to utilize the air for both offensive and defensive purposes. She can use this ability when she fires to make her shots quicker and more accurate, and can use it to change the direction of oncoming projectiles when she's quick enough. She can also use it to serve as a vacuum and draws objects in.
Equipment: Cynthia is an excellent gunner of a variety of types. She doesn't necessarily understand things such as measurements and barrel sizes and all of that, but if you put it in her hand, she can use it effectively. Her favorite gun types are snipers and rifles.

I knew that.

Is astramancy allowed? (from the Greek word for lightning; essentially the manipulation of lightning and electrical currents.) The idea I have is someone with weak control over electrical currents who uses a generator to make lightning, then pushes it towards something metal with magic. He could also sense electrical currents, and therefore could tell if a switch is on, and even if someone is awake or not. Is that legal?

@Crimson Impact; Of course, reserved.

@cannspec2;
Yes, yes it is; so long as he isn't summoning lightning from the sky. What you have is a perfect use of magic and technology working as one, which is the point of the concept.

Um, just to be sure, it's okay for him to be able to tell an awake person from an asleep person from a dead person, due to the changes in the activity of the electrical impulses in the brain, correct?

Yes, that's absolutely fine.

Name: Aaron Lazzari
Age: 42
Gender: Male
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 200 lbs.

Appearance: Aaron is stockily built and very muscular, from both genetics and extensive training over his lifetime. His skin is tanned and rough with a few miscellaneous scars. Overall, his face is angular with a strong jawline, but he is unable to grow a beard, so he always tries to be clean shaven. His hair is a sandy blonde, but it is hard to tell because he keeps it in a short, military-style cut. His eyes are a striking, bright blue.

Magic: The best party trick he can pull is creating a small fire. He just thinks it is useful for lighting emergency campfires.
Equipment: Aaron is a well-known weapons buff. He collects a dangerous arsenal at home full of every gun, knife, and explosive he can get his hands on. Though, because of the shortage of, well, everything on New Earth, it is not as well-stocked as he would like. Even so, he won't let you know that. On most occasions, he carries around a hunting rifle, a pistol, a couple of hidden knives, and sometimes a military grade shotgun.

@Redshift;

Very nice. Just remember that he shouldn't have any type of prior experience on Earth, since New Earth's colonization happened nearly two centuries prior. Otherwise, accepted.

Thanks! I was a little confused on the timing of the New Earth colonization and the present RP. You should probably add that detail to the front post.

Name: Maze
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Height: 6'1
Weight: 180 pounds

Appearance: Maze, despite his businesslike appearance, has a calm, laid-back demeanor about him. He has golden-blond hair, and green eyes. He's somewhat tall, and broad shouldered. He has a pair of thin, rectangular glasses he wears. He has contacts, but hates having to put them in. A far as clothes, he tends to favor nice looking suits.

Magic: Maze's magic power is that he has access to his own pocket dimension, which he calls The Labyrinth. He can open portals to it with a little bit of concentration and a wave of his hand. With a bit of effort, Maze can make portals that are about the size of a dinner plate, and suck things in with the force of a household vacuum cleaner. Much larger, or with much more suction, and it becomes increasingly tiring increasingly fast. The largest he's managed to make a portal was big enough to absorb a refrigerator, and afterwards, he couldn't use any magic for a few days. He can make them up to about 20 feet from himself with ease, and up to 40 feet with a moderate amount of effort. Past 10 feet or so, it takes a second or two for the portals to form. He can also make it so that the portal spawns about an inch from his hand and moves with it. This is the easiest, and allows him to move the portal around. Inside of the Labyrinth, time simply doesn't exist. So if he managed to capture a fly inside of it, and then released it 20 years later, the fly would be no different from the day he absorbed it.

On that note, Maze can also release things from the labyrinth. If the portal is touching him, he can shoot it with about the force of a longbow. Otherwise, he needs to position the portal so the object falls out.

Equipment: Inside of the Labyrinth, Maze has some vodka (stolen), some forks (also stolen), some rocks (would likely have stolen them if he couldn't pick them up off the ground), a couple of overripe tomatoes (stolen), and some ash (from burning a newspaper and a wooden chair that he stole).

Name: Astrix
Age: Eighteen
Gender: Male
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 135 lbs

Appearance: Astrix has an average build. His hazel eyes are usually obscured by the tinted goggles he wears. He wears white sneakers, bluejeans, and a black tee shirt, sometimes a red flannel jacket. His hair is brown.

Magic: Astramancy, or the manipulation of lightning and electricity. Astrix can produce very small, low-voltage sparks of electricity on his own (enough to light tinder on fire) but prefers to just redirect the energy created by his huge twin-coil generator. He can also sense nearby electrical activity, and thus can tell if someone's awake, asleep, or dead. He rarely pays attention to this, though.
Equipment: A giant generator that straps onto his back. It consists of a large dynamo connected to two Tesla coils. A set of wires run down Astrix's arms from it, ending in copper plates on his palms that he uses to direct lightning from his hands. It charges while Astrix walks. Astrix also carries a set of copper spikes that he uses to make massive chains of lightning.
