Just posting here to update everyone on game progress. The game's official platform is iPhone 3.0 and server coding is underway. The team consists of three people (including myself) plus some extraneous help.

If you'd like to help out email me, or post on the blog!

It's a game called mobile Pokédex. It's supposed to be like, one of those things where the game is a Pokédex and you're the trainer. Hard to explain -- it's done better on the blog.

For all intents and purposes this is another Pokémon game, with all the standard features that you find in the handheld games. There are just more features, and it's a different kind of game. So read from the bottom up of the blog, and you'll get to learn about all the nitty gritty.

Awesome! How do you get it? could it work for a T-mobile 1208 Nokia?

Right now it's in the works for the iPhone and Android platforms. The game has a lot of different parts so it's really versatile. Once the final game is released we're going to try and get it pushed to every platform we can. This game is all about the community that is formed around it.

As a side note, this Thursday an official road map is being written and posted, so anyone looking for hardcore coding positions keep your eyes fixed on the blog.

What about a regular iPod Touch? Should this work on that?

Again, the first release of this game is going to only work on the iPhone and Android platforms. Since this game has *so* many facets, it should be able to run on any device out there in at least some capacity. Once the initial game is released, which will take at least 6 months, then we can think about porting it to other devices.

Sorry, that was bad writing on my part. The road map is going to be written today, and most likely posted tomorrow or Monday (I'm trying to stick to my posting schedule). The "meeting" to get all of this stuff written out is happening around 8:00 PM EST. I can post "job descriptions" here once they get written up, so people on this forum will have first crack at them (since it *is* a Pokémon game). If you're looking for a detailed Road Map, it will most likely show up on the blog this coming Monday.

Will it be a free app or a paid one?

As long as the app remains unlicensed and exists only because Nintendo and Game Freak are nice, then the game will remain free. If we're able to get the game officially licensed then it will most likely cost money. That's a FAR ways off, though, so for now you can assume that it will be completely free.

Here's the Road Map that I promised a few days ago, it's very basic but should get the general schedule across:

Alpha 1:
-Pokémon Display
-Pokémart Display
-Pokémon Class
Alpha2:
-Proliferation of Pokémon (Original 150)
-True Spawning (Based on Locational Factors)
-Searching Algorithm (for Pokémon)
-Introduction of Pack
Alpha3:
-Pokémon Capturing
-Pokémon Battling
Alpha4:
-Functional Pokémart code
Additional things to consider:
-Using moves outside of battle
-“Special” events
-Farming
-Gyms
-Home Location Implementation

Above is a basic road map for the planned Alpha releases. We're officially open for business here at Mobile Pokedex, now able to accept coders from around the Internet to help with the code. If you would like to help with the game, you must have knowledge of either C or Java. If you want an idea of the difficulty level of coding, I would direct you to http://www.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net to search through their articles about how Pokémon leveling, capturing and battling has functioned in the Generation IV games.

The work done in Objective-C is entirely client side code. The work you'll need to do will be mostly networking and GUI construction. The work done in Java will be all server side code. The server side code is a lot heavier than the client code, and will require coding a lot of algorithms, working with mySQL storage and doing a lot of networking.

If you want to help with the project, you can email me at [email protected]. Shoot me an email with a little bit about what you know (a miniature resume, if you will) and I'll be sure to respond!
